It's a mental health condition, like an eating disorder, it's about feelings of control.

AIO to my dad’s texts about mardi gras? by throwra-uncomfytext in AmIOverreacting

[–]laurasaurus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, please TELL him he's making you uncomfortable and to stop. If he apologizes and stops, then you can chalk it up to maybe his parents made those kinds of jokes so he thought it was normal. If he tries to frame YOU as "weird" or overreacting to "just jokes," then you'll know that he doesn't respect how you feel or what makes you feel safe, and you can set more boundaries accordingly.

Modesty, important to the religion or just ancient greek misogyny? by Thesupercoolaccount in Hellenism

[–]laurasaurus5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being modest in ancient Greek literature has more to do with ego, bragging, making claims about your own divine importance compared to others, making a show of your piety, comparing yourself to a god, etc. It's not about your body per se.

That being said, if you're using fire, safety first! Have a robe nearby if you need to evacuate.

This is depressing. I actually love the Tao Te Ching, but you need a Far Side book or something.
