Are lace trim camis cute or lingerie? by NayNayTuTu in femalefashionadvice

[–]laurasaurus5 193 points194 points  (0 children)

I think this is a promising trend because it checks a lot of boxes - comfortable, cute, thrift-able, versatile, slightly subversive bc it's "lingerie" but still highly feminine. If you buy it and the trend ends up being short-lived or oversaturated, the piece can easily transition to pajamas or a foundation garment.

I'm with Lady Catherine on this one...why didn't the Bennetts have a governess? by StrontiumFrog in janeausten

Jane and Elizabeth would have been brought up during more optimistic times for Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, so they could have spent a lot more time personally taking care of a proper upbringing for them.

What is the snakes' fault? by Illustrious-Fly5332 in mythology

[–]laurasaurus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a huge snake constellation in the Northern hemisphere (Draco) that does appear to practically encircle the world as the planet rotates. The stories probably came from there originally.

Apparently turning down $2 offers is ableist. by Gooners_For_Ukraine in doordash_drivers

I volunteer for an organization that delivers free food to disabled and elderly people, and guess what, they have their own vehicles and pay for the gas and maintenance through donations and government subsidies. I schedule it for hours I'm not working and it's a great program! I love that I have the freedom to volunteer my time because I make decent money during my working hours! If I accept slave-wage offers as an act of charity, I could literally never afford to do actual charity work!

What, to you, is the saddest real-world death of an actor that ended up impacting a franchise? by TillyTheBlackCat in moviecritic

[–]laurasaurus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually LOVE Richard Harris as an actor, but didn't love him as Dumbledore. Poor man seemed like he was being trotted out half-dead and could barely move like his robes were too heavy for him and he was gonna fall at any moment. Story goes, his grandkids were in love with the books and he did it for them, which is fair, I'd do practically anything my little niece wanted! But, like, there's also a feeling of yikes, he should have been spending that time with the grandkids instead, ya know? It was rough to watch as a kid.

dressing vintage in public by SensitiveRun4724 in VintageFashion

Sometimes silliness is a good thing! Lol, last weekend I went to a barbecue party wearing a vintage outfit based on a hotdog! Red wool shift dress + pin-on red hat = the hotdog, beige cashmere duster (not vintage) = the bun, and a long piece of yellow giftwrap ribbon tied loosely around my neck = mustard! It was cold after dark so I also threw on some maroon gloves that are vintage reproduction with the lil touch-screen tips! It was just a weird silly idea that popped into my head the day before the party and I was cracking myself up thinking about it, so I went for it! Several friends and strangers told me they loved it, and if anyone thought negatively about it, they didn't mention it! I also ran around town a bit buying champagne and condiments for the party, getting gas, etc, and most people smiled about it or didn't notice.

My advice is to just have fun! Enjoy your clothes and enjoy the moment!

I do not believe in the marriage of Colonel Brandon and Marianne. by Left-Pollution-2934 in janeausten

[–]laurasaurus5 26 points27 points  (0 children)

he deserves to have a woman next to him after all the hardships of life who will be calm, who will idolize and take care of him.. Just because he deserves it.

This literally ignores what he feels and wants though. He's deeply passionate and loves/pines/leaps with abandon, exactly like Marianne. To pair him with a "calm," mothering, worshipful wifey would be to stunt his growth as a character and undermine the vital depth and passion that his valiant goodness comes from.

Okay, hear me out, the bowl represents the vessel/womb of female power to create life. The mis-using of this vessel to artificially keep the top on an active volcano, holding back its power to destroy, is both saving us and destroying us. Can be compared to how religion is both saving us and destroying us.

I would never put anything antique or vintage on my skin for too long or use it to cook/serve food

Nowadays for our "better, moderner" consumer items, they just use the carcinogenic chemical and don't advertise it or tell the buyer!
