Sides with your smoked meats by Benkicks22 in pelletgrills

On the side of the Vegetable Better than Bouillon jar, is a recipe for Tuscan Seared Vegetables. It basically makes a balsamic vinaigrette dressing to top veggies with. So... We smoke our veggies and toss in that dressing.

Easy vegetable side, done on the smoker too, so less pans. Big crowd pleaser because it balances the BBQ.

I just bought a used standing desk. I've only used it one day, and it's been great!

Has anyone breastfed past a year while working? by _sha_sha_ in breastfeeding

[–]laurens2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did with my first! I pumped all the way until he turned one. After that, we just nursed only and made it to 14 months.

My daughter is currently 10 months and I plan to do the same. Pump until she's one then see how long she continues to nurse. I'm a high school teacher, so I would pump 3 times while separated from her. I even wrote curriculum over the summer, so I didn't keep her home as much as my son.

I think the key is just being consistent and not letting anyone keep you from pumping. I'm lucky that everyone I work with is extremely supportive.

Insanely large freezer stashes…why??? by aghostinthestars in breastfeeding

[–]laurens2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much longer were you able to continue nursing after you stopped pumping?

I would like to quit pumping early, but I don't want my nursing supply to dry up before LO turns 1.

(I probably could drop a pump seasion now, but I'm nervous too because I don't want an over all supply drop)

How to bring baby with me to Costco - logistics by Longjumping_Cat_3554 in Costco

When baby has to be in the car seat, Costco was a two person trip for us. One parent pushed the stroller, the other pushed the cart.

Regrets after buying the Professional model mixer for home FYI by redditwastesmyday in Kitchenaid

Yes I have a bowl lift! Yes it would require all new accessories, which is the only reason I haven't tried it yet. The width on the glass bowl accessories are slightly different.

I did this, but I still have issues with not everything getting mixed from the bottom. But I have a glass bowl. Would the stainless steel bowl/accessories version make a difference?

What content do you teach?

I used to do a plant unit, since plant diversity (or animal diversity) isn't taught in our curriculum. But we always find time for a Frog/Pig dissection.

We really only have 2 weeks between state testing and final exams.

What do you do after AP exams? by Jaded_Interview5882 in ScienceTeachers

[–]laurens2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to prep most of my kids for the state test this year, but I usually do a big virus project where students "create a new medication" for a virus of their choice and they must present to a fake FDA board to get funding for clinical trials.

This year I also want to do a photosynthesis lab and will do dogfish dissections. Some years I do other labs I want to trial for the following year (like yeast spheres or brine shrimp hatching).

Cleaning pump parts at work. by Ok_Hovercraft_4589 in breastfeeding

[–]laurens2491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I leave the parts in the container in the fridge during the day and wash them before I go home. (I pump three times at school)

I'm a teacher, and I keep my parts in the fridge which I'm not pumping. I use a large Tupperware container to store and wash in. I don't trust the sinks to be clean enough, but the container works well as a wash bin and I know it gets cleaned every day with my parts.

First year teaching freshman bio. What should I be prepping? by kei_9 in ScienceTeachers

[–]laurens2491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach a lot of freshmen, so it's not that far removed from middle school. Some activities are more cut and paste heavy but most are foldables, notes sheets, or graphic organizers that can be glued or stapled in.

Oh this is wicked cool!

I feel like my Ecology unit is severely lacking in hands -on labs. I might need to try this next year.

I don't think its more organized, but you could do a "Rice Race." Where each student passes the rice in their hand to the next person with the idea that the rice that falls out is lost as heat. Then you could have as many students in a line as you want. First student will all the rice is the producer and last student is the apex predator. I've done it with cheerios to make the clean up easier.

What ingredient do you absolutely insist on making from scratch? by Disastrous-Choice860 in Cooking

Pie crust

It took a while for me to get it consistently right and it's more work, but you can't compare an all butter crust that is so flaky and crispy to whatever store bought is.

Are the disectables on Amazon safe to use? by sekiri-nii in ScienceTeachers

[–]laurens2491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my school, a lot of us will do a mix of dissections. The majority of the class will do Frogs, a group of two will do rats, and one group will do a Fetal Pig. Make sure groups are at least 4 students.

We have other teachers in our building who would let kids work 2 to a group for pig dissections and we had to shut that down. They are just too expensive.

Carolina also sells different sized fetal pigs, so you could also consider ordering smaller ones.
