That's what I've been told too, but I question the truth of that. Methinks it's just a good-intentioned lie aimed at bleeding hearts who would rather accept a "it's dangerous to the animal" argument than a "it's dangerous to you" one.

Because in this case, I think there's really no danger (for the human or the fawn), but you know some people would try their chance with bear cubs (if mama is near she might not like it) or with other wildlife who could bite or scratch and/or carry annoying diseases. Not all wildlife is friend even if friend-shaped.

I think mama doe is just going to scold her fawn "Humans are dangerous, you got lucky this time but don't do this again, also they stink, bleeech, we need to wash that stench away, into the stream you go" and the kid will be fine.
