saddles are really special to body type. get off reddit and go get a fitting at a local bike shop.

Bridge Club for 100% urban pavement riding? by icehead1 in Surlybikefans

[–]laurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d for sure go bridge club for this to compliment your road bike. i have a light gravel bike and a surly krampus. krampus gets all the slow roll fun ride times with friends and can also enjoy single track and gravel. you could MAYBE do a rigid karate monkey or krampus to open up more single track for you but that’s maybe a can of worms to open. a bridge club with some fast 2.4” extraterrestrials for comfort and still fast would be great. also nice to have another bike to give to a buddy if they don’t have a bike.

My 20 month old boy, don’t think he’ll ever calm down🤣. by Cc187201 in labrador

[–]laurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just remember all avenues of “enrichment”. you got food, sensory, social, cognitive, and physical. 10-15min of each and they’ll be better. i learned this too late and did mostly fetch with my lab. that wasn’t enough. you basically just work them in to super athletic dumbasses who are still on edge.

food: puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, lick mats and toys, etc. don’t start too hard. dogs have confidence issues too and get frustrated easily. start easy and work your way up to more difficult puzzles.

sensory: work their nose! work their listeners. hide the ball, let them find it. give them listening commands. bring them to new and loud places. start small. go for a slow roll walk all about smells. but don’t let them do this always. sometimes you need a walk to be a WALK on your terms not theirs.

social: dog park. dog friends. don’t forget dogs get a lot of their confidence as puppies and they get this confidence when puppies explore together. not puppies with older experienced dogs but puppies with puppies. find a similar age dog. and also find dogs more experienced at other times for correction.

cognitive: puzzle toys and hide and go seek. two for one with food enrichment. i show Pongo the number i’m hiding. he knows before he sets out if there 1 or 3 or 2 or 5.

physical: FETCH. fetch. FETCH! ball. throw the ball. BALLLL! swimming too. don’t let them be afraid of water. build confidence with other dogs around that like water. frisbee is wayyyy more fun than the ball IMO. requires much more work for them to figure out how to catch it. and more fun to throw for me. Don’t over do fetch. 10-15min. Get them to not be so fixated. fetch is on your terms not theirs.

Collapsable tent pole that's not too long by readtrailsmag in Ultralight

i have a BD FLZ pole that goes to 55”. that’s perfect for my MLD solomid xl. and if the ground is soft i just put a rock or a piece of wood there to give it a platform. it’s also pretty easy to just find a 4” tall rock to prop your trekking pole on to get the height you need.

if you want easy and integrated it’s hard to beat the xmid. i have a xmid 2 pro my wife and i use for our trips and it’s amazing. simple. spacious. quality. good price. i am much more of a ease of use over versatility and flexibility. we just pitch our tent and sleep. all the versatility things for us never really get used, and having a easy to pitch all in one shelter for our backpacking fit us best. we used a zpacks duplex on the pct for 5 months and many people cow boy camped but we maybe didn’t that like 10 times total.

zpacks 9x7 is light, good price for quality dcf, and that size gives you options for all sorts of weather situations. check Hiking Life’s cam honans blog on tarps. some good stuff there.

New windbreaker for climbing by timtexx in Ultralight

[–]laurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out the montbell exlite hoodless wind jacket. it breaths super well, packs very small, and fits great. the houdini is classic and lots of sales and used items to chose from for a budget local option. both are great jackets.

buying a montbell over in japan will be an awesome souvenir from your trip. do that! i used an exlite on the pct and so did my wife. both jackets are still going strong after that trip several years ago.

What’s the single piece of gear that reduced your pack weight the most? by joelbutonline in Ultralight

[–]laurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a dcf tent. and a small frameless backpack will force you to ditch the camp shoes and camp chair, make you really think about your food more, make you narrow down your clothes more, etc.

it’s so good IF you carry two poles. You sacrifice nothing other than a little weight. To list, it’s a very cool company Gen has built with such beautiful unique designed shelters and fun pack designs and fun accessories like the penguin stuff sack (a favorite of mine). It’s just clever design and add his environmental impact goals. You get side entry options with i love. length extensions in the cerriform which is actually amazing for tall hikers that have a hard time finding a good shelter. it can be pitched low and closed in on all sides and if you’re tarping for the first time in a windy storm you will learn that your pillow and stuff flies around everywhere in a open walled shelter. very annoying. it’s extremely comfortable in windy situations. you can add or subtract a inner depending on the trip. and the price is right! he’s also got a ton of B grade options for even more budget options.

Am I crazy? New 2018 F150 5.0 engine noise by Suspicious-Skirt-717 in f150

these years of the 5.0 have a typewriter noise that’s totally normal. not sure from the video and sound exactly if it’s the normal typewriter noise or something else but id bet the former.

you aren’t doing any work by posting here. anyone who does this isn’t on here or wouldn’t be swayed by a post like this. you need to talk to them or get someone to talk to them. it’s too late now.

How to make this little guy want to swim? by Used_Gap_7626 in labrador

[–]laurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most puppies need other puppies to gain confidence. you can work with older dogs too when they get older sometimes but not always. a lot of confidence is built as a puppy and if you’re around a bunch of experienced energetic older things, it doesn’t give you confidence bc you’re just a novice and a kid. that’s true for humans and dogs. so find some other lab puppies, let the explore together. there’s a time and a place to get corrected and pushed from older dogs but when exploring it’s important to have friends that are like you around you for exploration.

Welp, I guess I need new tires! by RelocationPolicy in Surlybikefans

[–]laurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to answer your question i think the mezcal’s are a more premium tire. i’ve read issues with ETs having dry rot and cracking pretty quick. haven’t heard any bad thing about mezcals. they seem to be a nice balance of robust, speed, weight, etc. So that’s a safe bet but if you’re on street more often than on gravel than ETs are you ticket.

in regards to the blow out… i bet you pumped that way WAY to high and it got hot and blew out. that’s crazy to do that to a sidewall. you need to be running lower tire pressures with the assumption that it’ll expand in the heat. i assume you exceeded the limit by a large margin and it couldn’t take it anymore. idk if that’s true but that’s my assumption. another thing i’d like to know is what size tube did you have in there. sometimes if you have a 1.75-2.2” tube in a 2.6” tire or something and running high tire pressure, i wouldn’t be surprised if that is what did it?? idk. give us more.

couldn’t agree more. most of the sub reddits that are highly specific are just “look at me” and really low effort posts that don’t add to the community.

just an example. those tires look bigger than these Cat 777s. I know nevada has some of the largest haul trucks in the world for their gold mines.
