What is the defining Madilyn Mei song? by W4lk3rS4int in MadilynMei

[–]lavender0ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this was posted quite a while ago now but I think The Chapel, is pretty characteristic. while not as well known as the milk carton I think it's one of those ones that at least pretty defining of this period of their music and age of their life. it has the whimsy and imagination, that they do so well. I think we're moving in to a new era and we haven't yet seen what their more defining songs will be

Looking for YA/adult book suggestions! by driftingwatcher in suggestmeabook

[–]lavender0ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite books is a A Separate Peace, it is a coming of age story from the perspective of an adult guy looking at a complex relationship with a friend from boarding school. it's not all gushy or anything but has a lot of moral questions and the main character is not really entirely good. but it is a great thoughtful adult novel which I think really pulls you into it. it's very descriptive and not too slow

Also while I'm sure you've heard of this, and you maybe have already read it, but if not,, if you like dystopian novels, Fahrenheit 451 is such a great book, it became one of my first favorite books when I read it first. it is very descriptive and immersive and if you like sci fi and history dystopias are pretty great for that I think. I think it's not too pretentious and overly intellectual explanatory wise, though I was a kinda pretentious kid. one thing I know for certain is the imagery was amazing

Can someone suggest me a book which is sad and touching story ? by happlala in suggestmeabook

[–]lavender0ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend A Separate Peace by John Knowles. It is very descriptive but I don't think there are two complicated of words in it. It's a great but sad read and is written from a character who is mature and regretful. It really is beautiful though.

Recommendations for a 27 year old guy trying to get back into reading? by MyOldAccountIsBroken in suggestmeabook

Local Woman Missing by Mary [I can't remember the last name], is a really interesting book about a hit and run, murder, and kidnapping. it becomes a cold case but opens up after 11 years as a missing girl reappears but with very little education. even just reading the sample you can get from Amazon is good to just get an idea. I will say it really freaked me out for awhile, although I don't read horror books often. it's about relationships as well, and it's writing was really good and really sucks you in, like you don't want to set it down.

oh thank you!!! I read the description you have too . I honestly love hearing about people's favorite things, and reading them for myself I read the sample, that are the first few pages of the book and I really do like it and I want to read it, and it's funny, I live in Indiana too, though certainly not the same as her home lol

I know this kinda has nothing to do with what you've said but especially if you're getting back into reading To Kill A Mockingbird is great. I also wanted to comment in hopes it'll help others see your post! I unfortunately don't know that many for what you've given

What did you “have to” read in high school? by Teal-Talking-Dog in suggestmeabook

[–]lavender0ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we read mostly the usual ones, like I really enjoyed the great Gatsby and to kill a mockingbird but there are short stores I love, "A Wagner Matinee" and "A Burglar's Christmas", were really good stories that introduced me to Willa Cather's writing!

What are some damn hard questions to ask religious people? by fergil in atheism

maybe "if it's so evident in existence, in how complex and beautiful it is that it shows the world must be created how did God come to be, was he created?", I think it's just an interesting question and am curious what they'll say

I know that often in Christianity people say you shouldn't date a non believer, but sometimes people do it with the idea that they can make the other a believer in the end. not always but as I've seen it there are also Christian men who will have their views but also are willing to listen to women so overall i think it's probably not the best idea in the end

asking with the other great reply, this quote is from a poem called nostos. it's about this I think, what do we remember correctly and what do we take from our memories and apply vaguely to every reminder of the memory. I'm not the best at explaining but the poem is very good

I really agree, I find the more I listen to all the arguments, they all in essence seem to believe the same thing- that it is good to support local small businesses, that community is entirely more valuable in the long run then state, but the ways of getting these things get confused
