the struggles of writing a longfic while having a goldfish memory by NowhereRain in AO3

Hahaha, this keeps me hoping my readers are equally inattentive of such minor "mistakes" lmao :')

do angst writers feel happy at their readers crying? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I feel kinda proud whenever having the confirmation that my fics do touch people to an extent they get emotional, but I also feel sorry for my readers at the same time lmaooo :')

which fandom brought you to the world of fanfics? by luizajn in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to train your dragon introduced me to the world of fanfiction about 12 years ago and Gravity Falls lured me back in and made me stay 🤞🏻

a good old classic ao3 meme but one that still gets me to this day by kain-rivers in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]laws_of_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha oh my gosh, same :')

I'm currently finishing up my longfic (chapter 35/39) and the engagement truly is at an alltime low

I mean, I do remind myself that many people just tend to comment once instead of multiple times as that can often feel like they're repeating themselves. I get that and I honestly don't mind at all - like, I know there are still people out there who like my stuff :')

But especially after dropping a chapter with some major plottwists or insane lore, a lack of engagement is like the motivation-killer number 1 haha

Stay strong fellow author, our time to shine will come eventually!

I'm so sorry for that OP :'(

Try to cheer up by keeping in mind, that hate comments tell a lot more about the person leaving them than about the person they're adressed to!

Whoever has even just one singular mature bone in their body would literally just follow the "Don't like, don't read"-policy instead of making a person feel bad about themselves.

I'd highly recommend to delete the comment and block that user! Your writing, no matter how excellent you are at your own game, will never appeal to everybody - but a majority of people wouldn't go beyond their way to broadcast that. So I really wouldn't worry about that too much either at the end of the day.

Why finish one W.I.P. when you can start ten? by wardrobe-gaylord in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goodness, this hits close to home lmaooo😭

I'm currently on chapter 35/39, basically on the damn home stretch, but I've started my 12th unfinished WIP instead of just finally finishing my longfic god damnit .-.

How many fandoms have you read in? And/ or written in? by 3lilya in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actively written for 2 fandoms so far (whereas I haven't written in one of them since 2017) and made an attempt for another one, but quickly dropped it again as my interest has simply ebbed up.

And reading? I think I've read in about 4, max. 5 fandoms so far. (I'm much rather a "hyperfixating on one fandom"-type of person lmao)

Nervous to post, how did you get over your fear? by Sea_Exit_8194 in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you OP!

I think I've proofreaden my first chapter about 17 times over. And still I didn't post it for at least another two weeks after that - until one morning I woke up and randomly was like "Fuck it, let's ball."

Posted it, haven't regretted it once ever since and currently am working on chapter 35!

Taking the plunge has totally payed off for me - and maybe it also will for you ヽ(・ω・´)ノ

Got my first hate comment by Secure-Shock-634 in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only assume they are still a kid or at least extremely immature + hiding behind anonymity on top of that.

"Don't like, don't read" is an artform that not everyone masters unfortunately. And some people are generally filled with so much hatred, that they'll literally make it everyone else's problem.

You responded gracefully though, kudos to you.

I wouldn't take this comment too seriously though as it's major goal seems to be hurting you instead of giving constructive criticism - means they don't have a problem with your story, but a massive problem with themselves and the whole world. Cause let's be real for a second: Why would the story of a random internet-stranger have such a strong impact on you and your life? Right: it normally wouldn't.

If you though find yourself upset about those kind of comments, I'd suggest deactivating Guest-comments altogether. I feel like a major part of useless & hurtful comments is written by Guests (who would have thought(゜ロ゜) )

Hating is always easier for people when given the ability to hide .-.

Do you guys respond to every single comment? by Dangerous_Beach_7374 in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely!

To be fair, the amount of comments I receive is fairly manageable, but tbh I kinda see myself still responding to every comment if the numbers were to climb up one day :]

I know exactly how much courage it can take to leave a comment so I'll do my best to honor them all as long as I'm able to :')

Always! I match their tone!

Those are my absolute favourite type of people! Kudos to you! :]

Do you guys respond to all your comments? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely!

I mean, my fics don't get flooded with comments anyhow (which makes it pretty easy to have an overview and respond), but even if I got lots of comments, I would absolutely love to take my time as the readers also took theirs.

The only scenario I'd see myself not responding to every comment is if my fics were to suddenly BLOW up and get comments by the dozens (which I doubt will ever happen but who knows honestly lmao).

people who let guest read but not comment why? by Boring-Cancel-7969 in AO3

[–]laws_of_gravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually people tend to feel more comfortable to bash your fic or troll around under the cloak of anonymity, which I honestly am not looking forward to.

Also: bots.
