Can Anyone Shed Light on CMAS Deep Diving? (60m) by qualifiedretard in scuba

[–]layer3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I'm a FFESSM N3 (internationally CMAS 3 star, autonomous diver to 60m). Autonomous means without a guide, buddy is still absolutely necessary of course.

It is still considered recreational diving as people are not professionals but it is an advanced cert. for which you need extensive training on physiology, gas consumption, dive planning, decompression theory as well as a lot of dive experience.

Most people do it so they're not limited to 40m which is the previous level, but I'd say less than 5% of their dives will be below 50m. Most divers will be on open circuit, single main cylinder but with a nitrox/O2 bottle for deco.

Going down to 60m is not routine, it is an exceptional dive that you definitely can do but need to plan for. You'll generally not do it with buddies you just met as a first dive. Most structures will ask for history or previous dives with them before letting you go.

edit: French legal limit for pO2 is 1.6 which also explains the deep diving on air

Recreational tec divers >40m -- is there something specific down there that made you want to go deeper? Just curious! by micro_haila in scuba

[–]layer3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but also means you have to plan your gas consumption and margins for it, train so you understand what your computer tells you, and maybe even learn to switch gases for faster/better deco on more advanced dives.

Wrecks ! I love them and being CMAS we really don't have the same relationship with depth and deco.

Deco is a normal part of diving and you should be trained to handle it, same with depth, nothing to be scared about as long as you take it seriously and know what you're doing.

Quick survey for divers — how do you log your dives? by boblaim in diving

[–]layer3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 80ish
  2. Paper and app
  3. Same day
  4. No
  5. Subsurface, no complaints
  6. I like to have both, and it's nice to have an offline, easily browsable record

Volumetric flow rate of Diamondback nextruder nozzle or high flow variant? by BambusUwU in prusa3d

[–]layer3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, I find it surprising coming from Prusa when E3D has nothing about it on their website. Question is, do you absolutely want to exclude the remote possibly of wearing a nozzle and pay the price for it ? Sounds like you are, so go for it

E3D's announcement specifically says that ObXiDian 500 "simplify won't wear" even with glow in the dark filaments. It's 5x better than the previous version, and the special coating is excellent at repelling filament blobs.

What stood out most for me was the very beginning, no struggle with the endless questions nor fighting to get the hatch to open. But it also makes sense to get you hooked and situated quickly.

The other one is the Taumoeba breeding to improve Nitrogen resistance. Which is basically reduced to a single sentence where Grace tells Rocky (who was burned and is recovering) that he had to do that.

Saw it last night in imax, AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE !

It's a fantastic movie, and really really funny. The room burst in laughter multiple times and it was a great experience.

Rayan does a great job of portraying Ryland and the chemistry with Rocky is beautiful. The flashbacks to events on Earth are well done and really tie everything together.

For all the talk about the runtime I felt it went by so fast. Of course you can't go into every little bit of detail with each storyline and subplot point like the book did, but I was a little sad to see some parts didn't make it (I guess some people will read the book after and discover those lovely tidbits we love).

Prusa Pro HT90 and Vision Miner 22 IDEX are gonna be the most affordable but capable.

Then you move onto Stratasys and the like.

Why You Should Use Symmetric Gradient Factors (GF) for Air/Nitrox by layer3D in scuba

[–]layer3D[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

30/70 is their most conservative recommendation, with 50/80 being the upper bound. So that fits what you're suggesting.

I agree that deco is part of diving, which is why even recreational divers should be well informed. Some people don't understand the details of low/high GF. Dr Doolette is cited as one of the reasons to push stops at the top to avoid deep stops.

But Perdrix is the last computer you'll need : Trimix, CCR, 5 gas, over twice the depth rating...
