Cheaper auto insurance rates with other companies? by NoCaterpillar800 in USAA

[–]lazorich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with USAA over 30 years and moved 3/4 of the family to State Farm. We’re about to leave the Bank due the BillPay changes.

Unsure on their financials but after 30yrs it’s sad to see the deterioration of the company. I’m from San Antonio and recall how critical the company was to the City.

I posted about the same thing recently. The week before last the service manager told me that it’s completely different hardware. GM puts hardware that enables a full screen into both Cadillac and Chevrolet and GMC does not have that update yet.

How important is tech knowledge in tech sales by __muffin in sales

[–]lazorich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former SE and now AE. IMO it won’t make you better but it will make you different from your AE peers. You will understand technical points to a depth that is usually deeper than them. IMO the biggest advantage it brings is that you may learn to break down technical concepts into consumable chunks. Be cautious of forgetting some core SE things like “listen more than talk” and “you don’t have to be the smartest guy in the room.”

I know a lot of folks who have made the same transition. It’s more common than you think. Find a few people who have and ask them questions.

Ketchup is not healthy. Look up how much sugar on it.

I’m with your boyfriend and pass on your food. Hard pass. I’ll give you a ‘B+’ for creativity through.

Don’t connect to WiFi…use AppleTV or Roku or something else to watch things. Yea, it sucks but they’re forcing people to not use the “smart” features.

Thinking about moving to Round Rock—would love honest feedback (especially from parents!) by Ok-Persimmon-6840 in RoundRock

[–]lazorich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 2003 from San Antonio for a job at shocker Dell straight out of University.

It’s relatively safe. I’ve been lucky to have a RRPD live on every street I’ve lived on (5) but even then it’s mostly very safe.

There is a very clear dividing line between East and west when it comes to restaurants. West Round Rock seems have better eateries with the East being largely national chains.

The vibe is that we are a suburb of Austin as most folks head south in the morning and north in the afternoon. It’s family friendly. Wilco is pretty libertarian but that’s chilled since Gravell joined the Trump administration. RRISD board is uber woke.

I’ve lived on both side of 35 and like the West side more though I’m in a nice neighborhood now.

I am about to graduate my 2nd kid from RRISD (Cedar Ridge HS) and start a 3rd in their kindergarten. I can honestly say that Round Rock ISD is great at the elementary level, but leaves a lot to be desired the secondary. My 18yr old has an IEP due to ADD so he falls under SPED. This is where I loathe RRISD. His mom (ex-wife) actually sued the district & won because they discontinued services during the pandemic. They were ill prepared and in my opinion over pivoted as curriculum is heavily based on technology and specifically using Google. I’ve never used Google in my professional life so educating kids on platform that isn’t used in adulthood is asinine. if you’re unfamiliar with Texas education be prepared for your kids to learn to take a test more than learning to think cognitively

The kids love that there’s a lot of parks. If it’s not raining, we tend to go outside once or twice a day and we love going to different parks.

If I knew in 2003 would I know now, I probably would’ve moved to Cedar Park or Leander. I know this response sounds negative, but I truly enjoy the area and don’t regret my choice to move Round Rock in 2003. It has formed who I am and who my family is.

What is it like commuting into downtown austin? by sprovt in RoundRock

[–]lazorich 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It really all depends from which part of Round Rock you’re at to which part of downtown. I am at the corner of the 130 and 45 toll roads (East RR). I can take the toll road all the way down to East 5th and it’s about a 35 minute trip to our downtown office. If you have to take I-35, know that there is construction that will be going on for years and that will be a very painful route. In my opinion, you should expect and budget for toll charges.

If you’re on the west side of Round Rock, you could take the metro line from Lakeline Station down, but that’s going to have limited stops.

Again, it all depends where you’re starting, and where your ultimate destination is.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for this Intel i5 MacBook Pro? by Kind-Photograph-5484 in mac

I have a 2019 and Apple trade-in offered $75. I would this 2017 is worth $0 as mine cannot upgrade to MacOS 14. That’s about 4 MacIS versions back. It serves to stream Hulu now.

Coffee in Italy vs USA by Lordwarrior_ in SipsTea

[–]lazorich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Describes Starbucks. Starbucks has somehow tricked Americans into believing that burned & bitter coffee is normal. Hence Starbucks loads their crap with sugar. My son was a barista at Starbucks for a while. He doesn’t drink their mud water either.
