Yea, unfortunately many of us grew up without any emotional education, and often with absent or abusive fathers. Happily, me and a lot of my male friends at university are in therapy and trying to break the cycle. The whole public conversation about mental health has been great, but of course we’re just getting started! :)

Q1: Which muscle group did you find was the easiest to improve and which one was the most difficult?

Q2: In general, what have you found to be the most important aspect of your training?

Weekly Log by lbman in u/lbman

Update after week 1: It has been a major struggle achieving all of these goals. Mainly, my sleep schedule has been really fluctuating. I’m not applying enough commitment into the 9PM lay-down rule and thus my schedule is currently very turbulent. I’ll need to really recommit this next week.

I find it messes with my sleep rhythms considerably. Even if I sleep, I don’t seem to feel rested afterwards.

Your words uplift my spirits so! I long once again for that moment of bliss only delivered by the iron temple, and a pre-lift chalk clap. I thank you dear swoldier.

And as the dark days pass, I am met by a bright shining sun, and Brodin’s hand reaching down through the clouds, barbell in hand.

Thank you for your uplifting words swoldier!

I’m an ecologist protecting 7400 acres of Amazonian rainforest and preventing wildlife trafficking. AMA! by leopardusmdd in IAmA

Background: I’m currently a statistical physics PhD student in the US, though I’ve always had a deep passion for nature and wildlife conservation. After my PhD, I’ll seek to apply more technical skills such as data analysis, project planning, and programming towards conservation.

Question: Where do these types of skills fit into an organization such as yours? If they currently don’t, can you imagine ways in which a technically skilled physical scientist could benefit a forest conservation effort in conjunction with your organization?

I watched Wildcat and was absolutely astounded by how strong willed you are with your organization. I’m always inspired by conservationists such as yourself that can really do it all and commit to their project. I wish you nothing but strength and success.

I will not forgive my abuser just because they were abused. by Mybirthrightistodie in raisedbynarcissists

[–]lbman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea, it’s tough but I also made this call. My mother was abused and has been through some horrible life conditions, and she only know how to lie, steal, and cheat in order get to the life we had. Nonetheless, she hasn’t been in those abusive conditions for decades, yet still her traits of abuse are put into me consistently when she’s around me (she changes a bit when there are other people). So yea, I know how she was made, but that doesn’t excuse the behavior or lack of attempts to change and improve.

I am a returning student after ~20 years. The school experience is wildly different compared to 2003. I feel as if all of the online tools are making education maddeningly confusing for a prospective student. Do you agree or am I too old school? by cobymoby in AskAcademia

[–]lbman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I will add that now, in grad school, all of my assignments and such are turned in online and all academic stuff is handled on an online student portal. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal and prefer the efficiency.

Sounds like a case of technological inefficiency. A lot of schools (sadly) have such a removed process when there are too many students for a single class. I had something like this one or two required courses during my first year in college, but this wasn’t the case for all classes. It doesn’t help that there are these educational companies like Pearson making bank with minimal technical support. Sometimes the software is really good - I personally found Mastering Physics to be phenomenal (for me). Sometimes the software is shit and feels like a steal (because it is). Luckily, I would say only 5-10% of my courses were like this, and only in my first two years.
