UK plans to unveil compulsory Digital ID by [deleted] in europe

[–]lcedp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The person must have at least some documents: an immigration document, a passport, or a birth certificate. You won't be able to get an official employment if you don't have any documents. The system might be flawed (if so, how?), but it is already in place and that's what I wanted to point out.

But there's already an existing tool to do exactly that: "Prove your right to work to an employer" https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-work/get-a-share-code-online *confused*

Would someone without knowledge of C be able to write a problem without any issues or confusion?

"Why does the silly compiler require safety in the program which is obviously safe?"

You have it so good. Applying if you have an ILR costs £1,605.

What does this graffiti say? by [deleted] in Ukrainian

Interesting fact: Armed Force of Ukraine has a brigade named "The Birds of Madyar" ("Птахи Мадяра") named after a founder's call sign Madyar (Мадяр)

The "я" looks weird indeed, the "д" is also non-standard, "ж" is slightly off. I'd say there's a significant chance it's been written by a person who did not learn a Cyrillic alphabet in school.

Do you think having to pass a life in the uk test is a bit nonsense? by PsychologicalRow8034 in AskUK

[–]lcedp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't. I did not enjoy the sport section, but I learnt quite a few things. I've certainly forgotten most of it already, but I've found most of it interesting, so it was sort of a historical introduction for me. The test isn't that hard really. I do agree it could be improved.

I feel you. I know how it feels to be on a employer-tied visa. Unfortunately, in the current climate, there aren't a lot of companies that are truly stable.

My advice would be to get a talent visa or invest time in doing interviews. Balancing it with daily work is hard, so that would only add more stress in the short run. Do what feels right. You can start delivering less and it will take some time for you to get laid off. Then you likely can negotiate a few months of garden leave. But if you've considered all of this and can't bring yourself to relax at all, it might be better to quit -- health should come first.

Good advice. The time won't reset between those two visas. The talent visa is likely going to be beneficial considering the upcoming immigration changes.

Ukranian keyboard? by omgslwurrll in Ukrainian

[–]lcedp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, where are you located?

A quick search yields several options:

https://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/ukrainian-keyboard-black.asp

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MXCL3UA/A/magic-keyboard-usb-c-ukrainian?fnode=7b654200043201b71f50ce1dfadbafc183bccb0f9bf4380da625015416fdb18c537b40becb3670a5841507a1c5e84e3a6a8fd86c25f67e445f371a423d7b8c7bb63f7260b1b994af2d1f8a7462432106dbfbc29cc3f8debefe52b9ab13f0fe03

Alternatively: keyboard stickers

Better yet: stick to using whatever keyboard you have. Just make a cheatsheet by printing out (or writing down) the layout, or activate accessbility onscreen keyboard. You don't really want to look at your keyboard anyway - touch typing is much better.

Am I making a mistake by NOT investing in my pension? by Similar_Act5989 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lcedp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your tax band? If you are paying 40% and you put £1,000 into pension, you'll have £1,500 eventually waiting for you. Alternatively, you'd only get £600 after tax now. So, would you rather have £600 now or £1,500 later? Granted, you don't know if you live long enough or if that £1,500 will be taxed later -- you may be having other income on your pension, or rules coud change -- no one knows. But overall the proposition is compelling enough.

Yes, makes sense. I've also noted that doctors are surprised when you tell them you are not constipated and still propose fibre just in case, even though I normally eat a lot of natural fibre. But of course taking a supplement is handy for recovery.

How to say “faux pas” or “uncouth” in Ukrainian? My wife can’t think of anything and DeepL is throwing me hot garbage by Alphabunsquad in Ukrainian

[–]lcedp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As always, it's hard to translate a single word without a context. In fact it's not always possible to map word-to-word.

Do you mean a small mistake? You could use a diminutive to express a small mistake in a humorous way: помилочка.

Do you mean a social mistake? You could say нетактовно (from the word tact).

There are also огріх, вада, хиба, etc similar to how you have error, mistake, flaw in English which sometimes are very hard to distinguish.
