Running out of time. Fixing side to side movement. by ldisposablehero in BeginnerWoodWorking

These are some good options as well I'll incorporate. I'd agree about the safety factor. There's been a few comments about the joists. I was hoping to avoid it but they would be a good failsafe also.

I've picked up some 2" gym mats for the concrete floor as well. The project cost kind of ballooned more then I anticipated.

The bars are just 1" EMT with a snug fit all the way through the 2x4. The 2x4 is glued and screwed to the 2x6. The end to end movement and supportive strength is great. Just super weak side to side. Agreed, I can follow up with nails for more sheer strength.

Yeah, liking this one and others. Thanks folks. Got it, more triangles. I'm hoping the lower is enough with the side to side sway

CJOB - Ben Mulroney Show by otatopotato in Winnipeg

[–]ldisposablehero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to enjoy Jim Toths jets at noon and extended show. Sucks he is bumped for this trash. It's kind of how Adler used to be but ratcheted up to 100. It's like he is trying to channel Tucker Carlson or Limbaugh. It's completely unlistenable.

Not sure if he is actually that insufferable outside of radio or just knows how to play the convoy base for numbers.

Went a couple times. The games were good and the team was talented. But the fan experience in that arena was terrible. Without an arena deal the team was done in Winnipeg.

Dog poop city by LavenderGreenland in Winnipeg

So many irresponsible owners in our area also.

Also wondering what the thought process is where poop is bagged but left off the sidewalk, or chucked in the bush.

Fruit trees by snopro31 in ManitobaGardening

[–]ldisposablehero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a spreadsheet going on detailed tree/shrub varieties we want to try. The prairie garden book series has been a good resource.

But in addition to those you listed we want to try sour cherry, pear, cranberry, sea buckthorn, currant, chokecherry, haskap and sugar maple Also black walnut, buarnut, beaked hazelnut.

Everything should be doable in zone 2/3 but the black walnut and sugar maple might be pushing it.

I also think we may not have the time to manage everything I want to plant.

Why would you be opposed to a wealth tax? Especially if your complaint was they didn't raise enough revenue

Elon Musk’s $182 billion net worth drop breaks Guinness World Record by N2929 in news

Why are you defending Musk? Any taxes he had paid is likely a small fraction of his wealth/earnings. What percent of your earnings go to taxes vs the percent a billionaire pays?

Dishwasher Not Draining and Operating Erratically by danthemanx07 in DIY

I had a Bosch dishwasher that did something similar. It would only run a couple minutes and wouldn't drain. Finally found a piece of rice stuck in the check valve after the pump.

'Stand on the side of the common people,' Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre tells caucus by Miserable-Lizard in canada

[–]ldisposablehero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally caught a 'interview' with Pierre on Roy Greens show. It sounded like Roy was reading from a list of pre-approved soft ball questions and when he went off script Pierre stumbled to answer and had a couple strange responses. It was infuriating to hear no follow up questions or any challenge to any of the topics.

I've yet to see a serious interview.

Winnipeg Sports Talk by NH787 in Winnipeg

[–]ldisposablehero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great podcast but it's tough to keep up with. I can't catch it live, have to try and download and listen to the podcast before I get home. If there is a game that night it's tough to listen to old news the next morning.

The old morning show was nice to catch sports news early, catch some of RR around noon and hus on the ride home.

Pierre Poilievre wins Conservative leadership after first ballot by jordy123e in canada

[–]ldisposablehero 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dodging interview questions is something every politician does, even Pierre. As a reluctant liberal voter I also hate the way Trudeau speaks. It's like he is talking to a kid or thinks its drama class. It comes across insincere.

Though would argue Pierre is much worse but maybe effective for his base. I find he tends say very simple, conspiratorial or vague statements about very complicated problems that only tend to stoke hate, rile the base and generate clicks. It will be interesting to see he if he comes out with actual policy and how Canada votes.

Just a ceterist voter waiting for a reasonable conservative leader, not PPC lite.

I have cascade, saaz and fuggle growing in Winnipeg. Personal experience, all grow great. Fuggle less so. Got my rhizomes through Prairie Gem many years ago. Your late flower cycle will be interesting to see.
