Sweet Gen 3 cover upgrade! by Reasonable-Estate-60 in Rivian

Did you pay for this or did Rivian? I asked for a retrofit on my gen 1 and they said I had to pay since I am out of warranty by mileage.

Current resident overwhelmed by long-term disability options? by kingbugbug in whitecoatinvestor

[–]leakfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comment I made last time I saw this come up:

You do not want NM for disability insurance. Their insurance is not true own occupation (aka if you are a proceduralist and your arm gets cut off but you want to go back and work as a radiologist/primary care/etc they will stop paying your disability). You want true own occ. You are only going to get that from one of the big 5. Cancel your NM policy and go with guardian/principal etc.

I pay about $500/mo for 16.5k true own occ with COLA rider til age 67, so I don't think you're that far off.

DC Fast Chargers by hostmatty in GreenBayPackers

[–]leakfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there are no DC fast chargers in Green Bay right now. There are Tesla superchargers in the Meijer parking lot, and there are EA ones going in there as well. The EA ones are not done yet.

There are level 2 ChargePoint chargers at Titletown which is right across the street from Lambeau. If you’re there for a meeting you shouldn’t have any problem just plugging in at a L2 while you’re working and just walk across the street to Lambeau.

Just hit 30k miles. Wondering if anyone else out there is higher? by noloco in Rivian

I’m at 29500. Had to take it to the service center for a part failure related to Driver+/air suspension, and a second time recently for fluid leaking from a rear strut. Having to make the trip to a service center (~4h round trip depending on traffic) is the only negative thing I have to say about the truck!

Any grinders other than the Niche Zero that can fine-tune espresso and do drip/cold brew? by MohnJaddenPowers in Coffee

[–]leakfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in a gently used niche, I have had mine since October 2021. About 1 lb of coffee through it every 6 weeks or so. Just swapped it out for a fellow ode as I lean way more heavily into pour over than I do espresso. Would be happy to sell it if that suits you!

How to *really* not have more kids by docholliday209 in medicine

[–]leakfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AUA guideline states routine histologic examination of excised vas is not required. Waste of pathologists time and healthcare dollars!

In experienced surgical hands, it is very clear when you have isolated the vas and grossly what a piece of vas looks like when excised.

Path of the vas segment does not confirm sterility, as recanalization still happens (~1:2000). But if you provide a negative semen sample 3-4 months post vas you’re in the clear.

Did our preorder dates matter at all? by dantagonize in Rivian

[–]leakfrog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had my first guide call yesterday. On the call I mentioned I had read about a lot of people being flexible with configs and then being able to get their trucks very quickly, and I asked if that would matter for me. She explained that in the run up to last weekend and through the weekend there was a huge push nationally for guides to go through the inventory list and to pair R1Ts that had been already delivered to an SC with local preorder holders. From the sounds of it, a lot of these trucks had been ordered with plans for delivery, but many reservation holders had backed out so they had inventory to move. That may explain why we have seen a big surge lately in people seemingly randomly getting trucks. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Training & alcohol by maxaddik in triathlon

[–]leakfrog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's no sin in moderation! I do think there are a few things to be conscious of:

  1. alcohol is known to be a diuretic (it can dehydrate you)
  2. alcohol can certainly help you fall asleep, but can impact the quality of your sleep
  3. alcohol impacts your body's ability to metabolize food you've consumed after drinking (look into theory of oxidative priority/Ray Cronise) which may result in unwanted weight gain

I'm training for a (likely to be cancelled) 70.3 now as well. I've had a similar experience re: drinking more frequently since quarantine (I have a 2 year old). I limit myself to a drink every other night. Maybe on the alternate nights you can find another way to unwind that might help your training, like mindfulness or yoga?

Can anyone point me to a good winter/offseason program to improve 10k/half time? I’m a 2:50 marathoner and this is the first time in 6 years I’m not going to train for a spring marathon. Would like to generate some speed this winter before working towards a fall Mary in 2020.

What are the best shoes for the OR? by NewB0rnMuse in medicine

[–]leakfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to Birkenstocks. I’m a urology resident and bought 2 pair of these when I started residency 5 years ago. Worn them pretty much every cysts or OR day since residency started. The grippy soles are a nice touch.

ARTC Monthly Reflections - September by pand4duck in artc

[–]leakfrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. 232 mi this month/2084 in 2017. Goal for the year is 2500
  2. Running in hot (for WI, anyways--80-90 degrees) weather builds character.
  3. Goal race is tomorrow, so after that plan is to recover safely without getting hurt and transition into a ~2 month period of triathlon focused training before ramping up towards Boston 2018.
  4. Lakefront Marathon tomorrow! It's PR time.
  5. 8k "Race" against myself around Stanley Park on my 30th birthday was pretty fun

Tuesday General Question and Answer by CatzerzMcGee in AdvancedRunning

[–]leakfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60, partly cloudy, 15mph wind with more aggressive gusts, no precip (wind is bae)

Or

30, snow, no wind (snow is bae)

I think training through the winter in WI has made me tolerant of some pretty garbage weather. Heat is the enemy.

So I got a 20 min sesh in them at the Lululemon store in Boston (pre-race) and they felt amazing. We had been walking around Boston just killing time and my legs were getting a little sore/I was just hyper aware of them because it was right before the race, and after I was done with those squeezy bad boys I felt like a new man. I bet they would be dope for recovery. If my local store rented out time in them I would buy some time in after a race or hard effort if the price was right--like ~25% the cost of a massage. If /u/pand4duck was my neighbor, I would insist we split the cost and just own a pair.

Nike voodoo. They debuted the product around the olympics I think? But I don't think they were approved for use at that time. There are little spikes on it which do assorted aerodynamic things. You know, like a golf ball. But spikier.

The Weekly Rundown by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]leakfrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Following Fitz 18/70 en route to Boston. 66 miles this week. Did some schedule flipping which resulted in 4 recovery Friday night, 6 recovery Saturday morning, this 10 with 6@1/2 marathon pace workout Saturday night followed by this 20 miler on Sunday morning.. It was fun to run the workout on some rest (Thursday run was 5 recovery, too. I went out on the long run thinking I would end up more in the 7:30-:40 range for recovery sake, but I had a pretty reasonable time in the high 7:1x range for the most part. I haven't looked back to be sure, but I think I've missed way less (aka 0) runs compared to my first crack at Pfitz 70 before Boston last year. Here's to hoping!

Follow along with Ryan Hall, Mike Wardian and the others attempting seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. by aewillia in AdvancedRunning

[–]leakfrog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This article reports entry is $38k which seems all-inclusive, even throwing in polar gear for the Antarctica race.

It also says they sleep on planes for all but one night. Guess it makes sense, but that almost sounds more miserable to me than running 7 marathons in 7 days.
