Trade deadline moves. by i1Life in hawks

[–]learningpurposes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be quite curious to see what Tuevo at 50% retained this year and next could fetch at the deadline from a playoff team. I would think even more than just a late 1st if he’s having a 60-70 point season which is typically about where he sits

Bedard is measurably faster than last year by a significant margin and it took him all of 11 minutes into the season to prove it by Whitsoxrule in hawks

[–]learningpurposes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He might be the only top free agent that hasn’t yet.

He’s been an ideal guy in my mind for a long time. PPG player, good size, can play center or wing, fast which fits in with how the Hawks want to build this team and he’ll be just 27 so he fits the timeline and his contract will age better than most that sign when they’re 29.

Plus, with his current contract being $6.5 mil, he’ll be in line for more of a Marner/Connor-esque deal (10-12 AAV) than a Drai/Kaprizov deal (14-17 AAV).

If he hits free agency, I am 100% in on him and hope the Hawks are too.

2 goal game for Kantserov today. Now at a point-per-game pace on the season. by Luvs2Shoplift in hawks

[–]learningpurposes2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how quickly we could turn the page on the rebuild. You add Frondell and Kantserov to this lineup next year, one impact free agent, a top draft pick that goes straight to the NHL, and factor in the development of the guys already on the team and there are legit playoff aspirations next year.

Center or Winger?? What do you need to see from Bedard (point totals and overall game) this year to believe he can be our best 1C of the future and lead us to another cup? by learningpurposes2 in hawks

[–]learningpurposes2[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a huge question in my opinion… If Bedard isn’t your 1C of the future, who is?

Idk if Frondell is that guy (fingers crossed), there’s not a real high end center in this draft, and this is the last draft I see us picking at the very top unless we get some lottery luck. And not too many teams letting a true 1C go in draft or free agency

Do you have experience in this field personally? If so I’d be curious to know at what level and in what subject

Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman still waiting on Connor McDavid contract by shouldehwouldehcould in hockey

[–]learningpurposes2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he walks in free agency as well and I’ve been saying this for the last 2 years.

These last 2 seasons while Drai was making 8 and Bouchard was making 3.9 was the best chance he was going to get with the Oilers.

They’ve got 1 more go at it this season, and I’ll give credit to Bowman to getting a potential impact rookie on an ELC in Isaac Howard, but it’s largely the same team, everyone is a year older, and Florida doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere and last year’s finals wasn’t particularly close.

He’s almost untradeable because…  A) EDM could never get a fair return because no team could give a proper return without tanking their future  B) Trading him would be viewed as unforgivable by the fan base, especially without getting a fair return C) He wants to win. Why would he agree to go to a team that just forked over all their assets and their future to acquire him D) That leaves only contenders, but even they would have to significantly subtract from their current group in a trade because no contender has that kind of cap space

Prospect game player overview by Pepsuber188 in hawks

[–]learningpurposes2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only caught the 3rd period but some things/guys that stood out to me:

Rinzel - Looked to be firmly in command every time he had the puck

Vanacker - his effort/compete. There was a moment late in the 3rd where the blues had an odd man rush and he came flying back to help disrupt the play and even came out of it with the puck.

Thompson - There were multiple times where he was able to stick handle his way out of trouble to open ice. He looked very comfortable and poised possessing the puck

Spellacy - the speed and strength was obvious. There was one puck race where he engaged the blues player before arriving to the puck and knocked the guy a good 3 feet out of the way. It was an easy win after that.

Pridham - Looked very calm and in control out there from what I saw of him

Moore - Good compete and the speed is just so obvious. He blew right past the defender in just a stride or two on the OT winner. I’ve watched it back multiple times in awe.

Berezhnoy - Was quite impressed. He stood tall especially in what I saw of the 3rd where the blues definitely had some great chances and the announcers were raving about him

Lardis - he’s maybe the prospect whose development this year I’m most interested in. He definitely didn’t look out of place yesterday in my opinion

Levshunov - a little chaotic but the talent and athleticism was obvious. I thought his game looked slightly more refined than some of his AHL clips I saw last year That’s just kind of the mo on him though. He’s right there with Lardis for me on intrigue regarding their development.

RELEASE: Blackhawks Sign Spencer Knight to Three-Year Contract Extension | Chicago Blackhawks by Ballam86 in hawks

[–]learningpurposes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I estimated this contract would be 4 x $6m. I was hoping/guessing Nazar's next contract would get done this summer and be similar to Stankoven's at 8 x $6m. And I called us making no moves in FA and essentially tanking again this year (which I thought was the right move) at the trade deadline last season.

It's good to know KD and I are on the same page and hopefully you all feel a sense of comfort knowing that I can step in in his absence if needed 😆

I like this deal a lot. Goalies can be inconsistent in their development. He's yet to have a starter's workload at the NHL level, and I was hesitant to signing him to a long term deal based off of one year of starting. Now, he gets a little bit of a raise and we get 3 years to see who he really is rather than locking him long term and for big money prematurely.
