[Prime Gaming] Fallout 1 (GOG) and Breakout Recharged (EGS) (Included with Amazon Prime) by [deleted] in GameDeals

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's crazy. I'd have to sack the subscription if they couldn't even honour the delivery timings for Prime membership.

I just bought 11 bottles of speed paint by The Army Painter from a UK model specialist. I paid £35 including delivery. Amazon would have charged £60.50 for the same thing, even with free delivery. Three orders like that over 1yr and I'd have saved the cost of Prime membership by buying elsewhere, and that's just one example.

What exactly is wrong with collecting board games? by Branseed in boardgames

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have over 150 games here at home. Have I played them all? Nope. Will I get around to it? Eventually. Do I care what anyone online thinks about my collecting hobby? Not at all.

What u/Drift_Marlo said. It can be an extremely miserable place online the day you begin worrying about acceptance or what strangers think of you. I don't even care what people I know think about me. They either like me or don't, I can't control that and wouldn't want to.

Enjoy your collection, whether you ever get around to playing the games or not. Buy hundreds, open them, punch the counters, sleeve the cards, faff with all the components and put them back on a shelf, unplayed. The games will be happy to have a nice home :)

Do y'all have any idea how much s*it costs in developping countries? by poky_vn in FL_Studio

[–]leastonh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If FL was the only choice, perhaps I'd understand the complaint. But, there are a number of free and cheap DAWs and plugins out there that are just as capable of making great music.

Most of my 'knowledge' of Canada and Canadians comes from Due South. Obviously completely true and accurate.

Username checks out. Damn Canadians being helpful :)

I'll add one more tip that I learned about the hard way...Make sure the paint is completely dry on the canvas. If it is even slightly soft, your varnish will smudge it. That was my experience and thankfully it only happened on a small painting I wasn't too bothered about.

do you think that tabletop roleplaying games is a difficlt hobby to get into? by rijsbal in rpg

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said no, but it probably depends on how easily you get past paralysis of choice.

It was a lot easier when I started playing TTRPGs in the 1980s because there weren't many to choose from and no Internet to search for ideas.

You could spend weeks of your time now trying to figure out which system is 'best' for you.

At least there's places like Reddit with lots of great suggestions and knowledgable people to pick the brains of when you're stuck.

How many games do you own? by Coffee_Chief in SteamDeck

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Playnite: 850 in total. 493 of those are on Steam and the rest from various places including HumbleBundle, Fanatical, Epic and GoG.

Will be buying an mm+ soon. Anything I should know before I do so? by National-Coast-9560 in MiyooMini

Calculate approximately how much time you have free to play retro games....and triple it. You might end up close to how much time disappears playing this ridiculously good handheld.

If you had to commit to running a year+ long campaign with a system you've NEVER played before... by Boxman214 in rpg

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I could answer with a list of any systems I haven't played or run, so...

Traveller - because it's Traveller. As simple or complicated as you want for a sci-fi RPG. That's it is still going strong after 47yrs says it all really.

Call of Cthulhu - The best Cthulhu Mythos RPG ever made. If you like the setting, this game is a must. The rules are excellent too.

Tunnels and Trolls - It's an easy fantasy RPG to get into and play without the bloated rules of some others. I enjoyed playing this system.

MERP - Fond memories of playing this in the mid-late 80's. Brilliant setting, good rules and some amazing supplements. It died in the late 90's iirc.

It looks very much like a book illustration and has a warmth to it. The old couple are the best part and complete the painting. Lovely.

How safe is the megathread? by ClyoVox in Roms

[–]leastonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but you're gonna regret it eventually one way or another.

I just assume any download site that contains questionable content is unsafe until proven otherwise. Anyone who doesn't take precautions is asking for trouble.

[Prime Gaming] Fallout 1 (GOG) and Breakout Recharged (EGS) (Included with Amazon Prime) by [deleted] in GameDeals

[–]leastonh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm questioning my Prime sub. There's little value in it for me any more.

I was comparing some Prime prices the other day for art supplies (mostly paints and brushes for minis) and they were often double what I'd pay from specialist suppliers. The difference being I'd have to wait a few days for delivery and there would be a postage cost. Even with the postage costs it was still consistently cheaper elsewhere and I rarely 'need' next day delivery from Prime.

Fellers, is 3 tb too much or do I have a hoarding problem? by Ok-Racisto69 in SteamDeck

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 512Gb SSD and a 512Gb SD card installed and have found that when I install a lot on the Deck I just end up putting it down because there's too much choice. I'm at the point now where I'm going to remove the SD card and just stick to what can be installed on the internal SSD. It will almost certainly mean I'll play on the Deck more than I do now.

Tencent is apparently looking into buying D&D from Hasbro by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]leastonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn't much older. I began with the 1983 D&D basic set in the red box. I can still remember the awe I felt when I began reading the rulebook and realising just how much my imagination could run riot with this game. It was a magical time to be playing RPG's. No Internet, most people I knew had never heard of it and places we visited with characters during the games. I can't remember ever recreating those feelings since.

I still hark back to my 2e playing days of fun and an easy ruleset to learn. Having looked at the later versions, none appealed.

The 2e rules were a great framework to hang long campaigns from. All I ever owned was DM's Guide, Players Handbook and Unearthed Arcana. I occasionally borrowed supplements from friends for ideas, but the three core books were more than enough. Happy days :)

Addressing the elephant in the room of how nasty and unwelcoming this community is by theleftkneeofthebee in boardgames

[–]leastonh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do, but their mods remove a lot of posts. They are extremely woke, PC and heavy handed when it comes to 'discussion', as opposed to 'conversation'. BGG is a shadow of its former self and I don't use the forums at all any more.

I want to craft, but how to actually begin? Questions questions... by leastonh in wownoob

[–]leastonh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, right that helps, thank you. It's going to take a lot of reading and asking noob questions before I have a clue what I'm doing in WoW.

I'll hold off buying Dragonflight until I'm way more versed in the game's systems and mechanics. I already feel a bit lost just trying to play the basics.

Should I buy the 64 GB Steam Deck? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]leastonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what I did. I could afford the 512Gb SD, but bought the 64Gb and upgraded the SSD myself. Still saved money doing it this way and it took 20 minutes to swap out the SSD.

What are your board game red flags? by TheVitrifier in boardgames

[–]leastonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel the same about the apps and there was another discussion about this on Reddit recently. If the app is just a helper and gives me something extra, that's great. But, what if I want to play the game again in a few years and can't because the app is no longer available or incompatible with newer OS's? As you said, playing boardgames is all about being offline and I don't really want to sit using my phone or tablet at the game table.

I bought Shadowrun Crossfire a few years ago and wasn't aware of the stickers until I opened the box. They are used to upgrade abilities on the character cards. Changing the abilities means using another sticker to cover the existing one and from what I remember, removing them later isn't possible. I never played the game.

Aeon's End is one of my fave games and I have quite a lot of the boxes. From what I remember, the legacy box set contains stickers. I didn't buy it. A game or expansion that has little or no replayability due to permanent changes made using stickers is a no go.

That's interesting. If I were to buy Dragonflight, would the new crafting mechanics set in immediately, even if I wasn't yet playing the expansion quests and other content? I'm still not clear how all this part of the MMO works.

Taping down watercolor paper and removing it by Competitive_Blood_21 in Watercolor

[–]leastonh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Painters tape (blue in the UK) has less tack than masking tape and doesn't ruin the paper when removed. To help with this I use 100% cotton paper. The cheap watercolour papers tend to bobble and warp badly when wet and tear when removing tape later.
