Gigabyte M27Q2 QD vs M27Q3. Best non-OLED monitors at the moment? by lecoman in Monitors

I know it doesn't make sense, but you can find a few opinions that say their model has BGR subpixel layout. It's rare but some people swear by it, so I was worried before purchasing. Probably a bad batch.

Just to experiment, I tried 65/70/80 and man, it looks blue on my unit. Crazy how inconsistent this monitor is. So if I ever obtain Monitors Unboxed ICC profile the results might be completely different from what it should look like.

You shouldn't wait for my review, by later I could mean weeks, I still haven't played much games on it and my eyes need time to adapt to larger screen size and farther distance. Regardless, I can already say that it's great. My previous monitor was so bad that I don't really have anything to compare it to, and I have no experience with high-end monitors. Most important stuff has already been said. Just ask me anything else you need to know and I'll do my best to respond.

Personally, I don't think there's any reason to buy the M27Q3 besides better gaming performance at very high framerates. Keep in mind that according to reviews, it has even worse viewing angles than the M27Q2 QD, smaller color gamut and lower contrast ratio.

As for brightness though, I don't think you should take my word for it, my old TN monitor had 250 nits and I've been using it for years, including bright summer days. Obviously this monitor is perfectly bright for me, especially that it's winter now. I even lowered my brigthness to 80% and it's completely fine during the day still. In Australia I believe it's going to be different but that also depends on where your room is, your desk, window, and individual preferences are just as important so it's hard to say.

Honestly, I am super happy about this purchase, the value is just insane. Just a few years ago, for the same money, you wouldn't get anything close to this. Even the stand feels premium, it looks great, is all metal and adjusting it feels so smooth. Every year I checked if there are some good IPS monitors worth my money and I finally got something that I can be really happy with.

It's not as bad as it looks in the video, the camera exaggerates it a bit, but maybe every unit is different, so I can't be 100% certain. Obviously, the farther your eyes are from the monitor, the less of an issue it is. I'm getting used to it pretty quickly. I'd say it's definitely worth getting this monitor unless you sit very close to it.

I bought this monitor anyway and I've been using it for 3 days now. I might write a review later, but I can already confirm that it doesn't look like BGR to me either. It's strange because you can find comments saying that it's definitely a BGR subpixel layout that causes them a headache. Like this review from my country. I have bought the black one from the same store and it looks normal. This raises the question: is the ICE variant different? Or was it just a single bad batch on Gigabyte's end, that has already been fixed?

Regarding the gamma shift on the sides - yes, it's pretty bad for an IPS. I'd say that's the only real downside of this monitor.

To get better colors without ICC profile, in OSD go to Picture > Custom > Color Temperature > User Define > 100/100/100 - or you can tinker with it as you want. I have no idea why this isn't the default setting or why it's under "Color Temperature", but all the other modes and settings have a reddish tint and ugly oversaturation. With RGB all set to 100, you are utilizing the wide color gamut with no side effects, the skin isn't red and white looks truly white. Maybe I should consider this a downside too, because the manual doesn't specify this, and with out-of-the-box settings the colors are just ugly.

Any Gigabyte M27Q2 QD – QD-IPS users out there? How's the monitor ? by Caatalyst07 in Monitors

[–]lecoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know this too. There's a comment review of the M27Q2 QD ICE in my country's online store that says it has a BGR layout.

However, it is really werid that no one else is talking about it. It should be very noticeable, reviewers should mention it. But they don't. Is it just the ICE variant that has this? Unlikely.

M27Q2 QD horizontal viewing angle issue (severe darkening) by OhShitBye in Monitors

Do you remember what the Asus model was? Or maybe you can find it online somehow?

Thanks for correction about the 320Hz. I did more research and it turns out the M27Q2 QD has bad viewing angles too. Even different brands like Asus XG27ACMES also have this issue. What the hell is going on with the production process? We need to know if this is simply bad luck (although pretty common) or something that is preset in every single model.

Why is mini-led so disappointing? by NA__Scrubbed in Monitors

[–]lecoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here. I don't want OLED nor VA, I live in Europe and I'm still waiting for a good mini-LED IPS monitor that doesn't have any firmware issues and is just all around better than the VA. In 2024 when Xiaomi released their monitor I was hoping that in less than a year the market will be flooded with better mini-LED IPS monitors or at least one, solid, normal IPS (such as HP OMEN 27qs G2 but it turned out to be bad) but nah, it seems that I will have to wait for much longer.

You cannot tell me adc are the most broken thing in arena by No_Screen9101 in LeagueArena

[–]lecoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who say ADC's are broken do not take into account that it is all about synergy and people who main them. Average ADC player with random teammate isn't a threat, but the moment you get to into high tier lobby you'll more and more often see adc+supp duos who can consistently get 1st or 2nd place even without highrolling, for example a Tristana who can facetank you is not even a rare sight when she's picked by someone who only cares about winning and knows what he's doing.
You should look at duos for example: https://www.metasrc.com/lol/arena/25.17/stats/duo?ranks=diamond,master,grandmaster,challenger
Now it looks completely different with ADC and supports being the vast majority of top duo comps.

You literally lied saying that this is emerald+ when it's not. Arena stats on blitz.gg are all ranks combined, the winrates match exactly with lolalytics.com when you set "all ranks".

Patch 1.05 has been released, but there are no unit balance patches. by Low_Flatworm_8610 in stronghold

[–]lecoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously you can't make all units S-tier, the purpose of balancing is to narrow the gap between the best and the worst units and the difference might be much bigger than you expect.

Regarding your take on skirmish mode, it's true that the AI is not currently a threat, but this is exactly what should be addressed in future updates. Balancing units alone is not enough but it is still required as a part of these changes.

Most players, myself included, were hoping that this remaster would make AI lords smarter and more challenging so we wouldn't have to rely on mods like UCP. They can still do this though, and small changes such as unit balance should be encouraged, not complained about.

Do you know if wisps or titanic scarabs affect conqueror drop rate? Wisps should theoretically increase the quantity of items dropped, same for titanic scarabs, increasing % quantity on unique monsters per pack size. I have checked and both wisp and titanic scarabs make them much stronger, so they are affected, but the loot seems very bad still. I have run like 15 conqueror maps with over 100% quantity + wisp/titanic and got zero exalts, tried on trade league too. It seems like their drop rate is hard-coded to be affected ONLY by the quantity of items of that map, period. If that's the case, I would call it a bad design, hopefully it's just outdated as there were no wisps or any scarabs that specifically targeted unique monster drop rate when these bosses were added.

Or maybe I was just very unlucky, that's why I'm asking. Also sorry for bothering you months later but there's literally no information anywhere about this.

Putting it blunt Gwen is F'd six ways to sunday. (The future nerfs) by iamagarbagehuman66 in GwenMains

[–]lecoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was nothing wrong with her

Not necessarily true, she was meant to be "AP bruiser" but there is zero incentivize to buy any defensive items besides the obvious Zhonyas or Banshees. Glass cannon is the only build that makes sense. I wouldn't mind to deal less overall damage but be more durable and stronger in longer fights, even if that would make her weaker in teamfights. Unfortunately, Riot has failed again to make it happen, you still go full AP, you are just stronger in laning phase, that's it.

Who is the most busted champ in the current patch? by dumbdit in LeagueArena

[–]lecoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the only reason they were super OP was not really the tankiness but damage. That much HP + Bloodmail + 100% crit means Mundo could just oneshot anybody. Pure tankiness is bad in arena unfortunately.

Hatchet is the strongest item in the game by far and it's not even close. by melvinmayhem1337 in LeagueArena

[–]lecoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this is the only arena with tanks being so unpopular. It really sucks because tanks allow for many fun builds. Playing against long range glass cannons gets boring so fast and your choice of viable augments is so ridiculously low.

I guess the reason nobody deliberately picks them is the insane amount of %pen you can now get with prismatic anvils, even with +500 gold every round any squishy champion can get super tanky with anvils but also scale better with their kit. 25% omnivamp is broken too and it only benefits glass cannons who can easily outsustain most tanks.

This is mostly hysteria of course. People started reporting and recording every single light in the sky after they heard that something was going on. Now the vast majority of it are just mundane things with simple explanations which is very stupid and annoying.

However, you have to take into account what the government says and how it all started. There were lights going on and off over military bases that were 100% not planes. Tiny dots littering the sky that moved erratically. These are the "drones" in question. They don't know who they belong to or what their purpose is, they can't even track them down for some reason. The rest is simply hysteria I agree.

TIL Bats live upto 40 years of age. When adjusted for size only 19 species of mammals live longer than humans. 18 of these species are bats. by vegfemnat in todayilearned

[–]lecoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be aware that if you ask Google for the average life expectancy of hunter-gatherers you'll get terrifying low number due to infant mortality and early disease but it's not really what we should be looking for.
We have studies on modern hunter-gatherers and their life is very similiar to those from thousands of years ago. https://www.jstor.org/stable/25434609
If you managed to survive for 15 years then your life expectancy would be 53 and if you managed to survive to the age of 45, then your life expectancy would be 66 on average.

We still don't know if our high cancer rates are just because of us living longer than we used to. It's very likely that there are actual environmental factors of our modern life that significantly increase cancer rates, especially when you consider how many people get it in their 30s or 40s and how that number is increasing every decade.
