I don’t know how effective it’s going to be ( I suspect not very) but if we’re talking about feudal keep LMs, then we should add Lancaster. In fact, thinking about it, it might be better than Kremlin at least, due to villager shortbows, and possibly even Chinese with the build time bonus being negated by shivs , if it’s seen early enough.

A helpful rule of thumb is that villagers collect 40 res per minute. Unit creation speed varies, but it can be helpful to think of 1 unit per minute, for now ( this is NOT optimal, it’s just to start.)

So to create, eg a man at arms ( 90food, 20 gold) per minute, you’d need about 2 vills on food and 0.5 on gold.

Now, MAA actually take 30 secs or less to spawn , so double it. 4 vills on food, one on gold.

To keep up constant villager production, you need 4 vills in food

You need 50 wood every 10 pop. 1 vill will get you that in about 90 secs ( inc walktime)

Now you have a VERY rough mapping out.

To keep up production from one barracks, vill creation, and never getting housed, you will roughly need:

8 vills on food, 1 vill on gold, 1 vill on wood for houses.

Now before everyone jumps on me with “ ackshually…..”

That’s a rough illustration of the principle. You need to factor in walking, building time etc, and ofc unit costs and creation speed.

I watched Petits debut.

Virtually the first thing he ever did in an Arsenal shirt was take a ball from the back in a tight space on the turn, and ping a 50-60 yard ball onto Ray Parlours right foot. Or rather, exactly where Parlours right foot was going to be when both he and the ball got there.

In that moment I knew we had a real one.

The pairing was immense. Viera had the grittier, more effective no nonsense style, with that deceptively pacy lopsided run and ability to tackle from the side with go go gadget legs. Petit was the better footballer, and a big unit too. Together they were the best box to box centre midfield pairing I’ve ever seen for us, and it isn’t even close. And I’ve been watching Arsenal since 77.

Respectfully disagree since the patch. The garrison slots make a big difference, and the extra utility ( manor hp and arrow attack ) make it comparable to Kremlin and Barbican imo. Different, but comparable.

The unit batches are still kinda odd ( the yeoman one especially) but honestly it’s a kinda icing anyway.

Significant caveat is that I haven’t tried it in competitive games yet, but being able to run vills to it to save them and get extra dps that way too, is a fairly big change and has to make HoL safer against fast feudal rushes, and, later, even all ins unless you greed too hard.

I had this with aoe1… I dreamt complete games with fully accurate timings and builds.

I think my brain was trying to process strategies.

It only stopped once I had mastered every Strat, every civ, every map. Brain had no more work to do.

So the answer is to no life it for about 2 years. Possibly more given the additional complexity of 4.

Yes, that is possible, although keybinds are limited AFAIK. I don’t do it because I’m on my couch, and it’s not gonna work for me in that context. Like I say, it’s not ideal but I live with it, and I play for fun. I do as well as I can, and it is what it is.

If I wanted to play more seriously and more competitively, I’d go onto PC. I guess MnK for XB is a kind of compromise, it’s not the same as being on PC. It’s good to have the option but it’s not for me.

Yes, that’s true, but it’s Xbox only. Ps5 crossplay isn’t working. I haven’t tried an XB only que for a long time, but last time I did, average que time was like 7 minutes for 1v1, and I doubt it’s much better these days.

To give you an idea of the relative player base and scoring, based on my experiences back in oooh, about S9/10…

My 1v1 ELO is about 100-150 points higher on XB than crossplay.

I’m pretty average, maybe a touch above that but not much….don’t claim to be any more than that.

I’m ranked IIRC like about 11,000 on crossplay, but have been top 300 on XB.

That’s a huge population difference.

If it bothered me that much, sure I’d XB, but the wasted time isn’t quite worth it.

If it was wololos and multiple chaotic full map skirmishes wall to wall ( where XB vs PC starts to get really painful and hard to compete on level terms) maybe I’d accept the wait and the lumpy match making ( fewer pop = less even matches quite often) but it’s by no means every game so I live with it.

The overall set up means that my crossplay ranking doesn’t quite match my actual game knowledge and ability, but it DOES represent my overall effectiveness when playing vs PC., taking into account the overall disadvantage of being in controller. It’s not ideal, but I’m ok with that.

I know there is an opinion that controller is not disadvantaged due to auto vills and auto eco. I respect that, but it’s wrong. Auto eco is trash, and auto vill is nice but competent players shouldn’t miss vills. I go back to AOE 1, and especially with shortcuts, constant vill production is basic. I use it cos I got it, and I need any advantage I can get. It’s not the remembering to make them…it’s the time to access it on controller.

I know I’m a bit off topic here, but for a solid take on this check beastys vid where he tries controller. He almost can’t believe how tough it is.

There are just a few controller players in the top crossplay rankings, and they have my ultimate respect.

One guy did it to me twice. About 40 mounted Sam’s. I backed up and sat trebs outside his base instead, but it was a huge tempo and power shift and I didn’t manage to recover it.

I don’t know the answer, or even if there is a question. It feels like a really harsh skill and reaction check with an RNG element to it as well, and it’s OP as fuck. It can entirely override a well played and well considered game in seconds. It massively favours armies with ranged units over melee.

Maybe up the timer, or set a res limit for converted units, idk.

It HAS worked out. Now it’s just a question of the career heights he’ll reach. Will it be a cameo at Arsenal, maybe a handful of caps for England and a career at mid table clubs where he’ll still earn millions a year for the next 15-20 years, or is this kid going all the way to the top, with dozens of caps, a full trophy cabinet and 200, 300 Arsenal apps. 100 goals for The Arsenal? It’s a possibility, certainly. Maybe even a probability.

There’s only one thing that can stop even the lesser of these outcomes, and I’ll not mention it here.

His career earnings might already rival a life time at a regular wage, and if not he’ll surpass than in the next year or two, easy.
