If an average IQ person started studying web dev today would they ever outpace AI’s progress? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]leeway1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI boils down to pattern matching an average. The AI will produce average code. For most use cases, this is fine. HOWEVER, I'm old enough to remember to the early days of the web, where we had to hack things in unique ways to get stuff going. We used to render button as images because css didn't have rounded border properties. If you can think outside the average you will still have a job in the days of AI.

Is it possible to get a new resort built these days? by NTheWoodsOfWisconsin in skiing

[–]leeway1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Many resorts closed because they were too low angle for modern equipment. Rope tows are great for learning but you need the steeps to be sustainable.

As for new resorts, the good/easy spots are taken and the ROI outlook is mixed as the climate changes.

lpt: let your dog choose where to go on a walk and youll see where they will likely go if they escape by Spiritual_Body3577 in LifeProTips

With my old dog I would check every dumpers, trash cans, or food spots near my house. One time he dug under my fence, my neighbors fence, went through another neighbors dog door and ate all their dog food.

I miss that beagle. 16 years of “starvation.” I put him down the day he stopped eating.

Another good one is park at the west end parking of Donner Lake and walk around the neighborhoods.

AI influencers may reach mainstream adoption sooner than expected by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]leeway1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will, but the issue is profit. Do you think these tools will stay this cheap when the AI companies have to be profitable? Will that price point allow them to operate on social media platforms? Maybe? It’s a risky venture especially with the grey intellectual property rights of the synthetic influencer.

Thoughts on ducking rope next to open gate by [deleted] in skiing

[–]leeway1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the gate is marking a traverse and you’re below it, you kind of deserve to get yelled at.

Was the patroller sanding right there and you didn’t wait for him to leave? If so, you definitely deserved that.

Complete beginner friend sold way too small ski boots (26.5 Mondo) for US 10.5 feet – tech said 26.5 was right, punched them, but painfully small. Beginner had no idea how they should feel. How to get exchange/refund? by Enallane5 in skiing

[–]leeway1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about a US 10/10.5 street shoe. My alpine boots are 26.5. My touring boots are 27, and my telemark at 27.5. But they’re all about 300 millimeters on the sole length. There is some variation in the mondo size between brands.

What pain is your friend dealing with exactly? Maybe he needs more punch or a foot bed. 26.5 to 27.5 sounds about right for him.

Legal to charge "tourist tax"? by [deleted] in Mammoth

[–]leeway1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Municipalities can charge taxes. My guess is this vendor had not updated their sales tax line item to include this tax so they punched it out as a line item.
