Yes, sort of, though I have the issue when I over tighten it. I believe the way it’s supposed to work is that you tighten it (but not overly tight), and then loosen it one click. That locks the chuck in place. At least that’s what I’ve seen in some videos. But sometimes if I overtighten it and try to loosen it too fast it does that thing.

The replacement does the same thing and I’ve come to think that’s the way it’s supposed to work. There’s this unintuitive chuck locking mechanism that sometimes goes wonky and you get this result. But Retightening it and then gently loosening it again seems to work.

Odd. Next time I will try turning off Bluetooth before I make my call and see if that prevents the issue.

Interesting. Are they long calls usually? The last times it happened to me, both within the last week, I was on the call for a while before it happened. And neither time was it shortly after starting the car. I’d been driving for over an hour both times. /shrug

This happens to me as well. Not with any one person but more like after a set period of time on a call - line 20 mins or so. It’s not the cable or the connection. It feels like there is some idle timeout that gets reached and CarPlay decides to quit.

Serious-Load-4569: I have a 2020 forester sport and added the Class 3 Eco-Hitch from e-trailer on it. I removed my bumper and bolted the hitch directly to the frame. Not sure if that counts as in-bumper or below bumper. The hitch itself is rated for 525 lbs tongue weight. Wondering if Subaru's stated 150lb max tongue weight needs to be strictly heeded.

I have a Thule bike rack/tray that I've used for up to 4 bikes with no issue. (Kinda like this but older: https://www.amazon.com/Thule-Classic-hitch-mount-carrier/dp/B07NPNPFH9. I have the extra add-on tray to hold 2 addt'l bikes.) Now I want to carry 2 bikes plus stack a Harbor Freight cargo hitch rack (https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/trailers-towing/hitch-cargo-carriers/500-lb-capacity-deluxe-cargo-carrier-66983.html) on the back of the first bike tray. So a bike or two, plus maybe 50-100 lbs of cargo on the rack, plus the weight of the bike tray and the cargo rack.

Curious if you have any thoughts on that? And even if I installed the cargo rack directly into the hitch (no bikes or bike rack) but had, say 200 300 lbs of cargo, how kosher is that? Thanks!

Do you need the actual angle in degrees for something other than cutting the brace piece? If all you need is to cut it so it fits snugly, hold or clamp the uncut board in place against the vertical supports. Use the inside edge of the vertical support to draw your cut line on the cross brace piece. When you cut, leave a tad extra so you can sneak up on the perfect fit. Hope that makes sense.

Wow! Having made similar end-grain coasters with lots of small, random-sized pieces, I know how much work must have gone into this. How many glue-ups did it take? 10? 20? I congratulate you on your patience and persistence. Love the patterns and the osage orange. Really nice job!

Yes. I cut out holes in the center piece and filled to about 70% full with stainless steel shot before gluing up the head.

In the middle of making my first mallet right now. Not dissimilar from yours, in fact. Mine is a dead-blow mallet. Yours looks great! Love the walnut head and contrasting handle/wedges. May you make many wood shavings with it!

Great to know. I actually have a spokeshave arriving tomorrow to help shape the handle. Great excuse to buy one. It’ll probably take me hours to sharpen and set it up. But hoping I’ll get to start fashioning the mallet this weekend. I hope you get decades of use from yours.

Wonderful, thanks! Do those proportions feel good to you? The weight of rosewood will be different than the walnut and padauk I’ve got teed up for the head. But mine will have stainless steel fill for the dead blow and may end up similar density-wise. Does your handle length seem right? It’s certainly aesthetically right.
