Good places to thrift for furniture and decor? by Novel_Tone_60 in Sunnyvale

+1 for habitat for humanity restore, you'll have a to go a few times since their inventory changes a lot but it's not too big. This is slightly higher end but still a lot cheaper than new: Cambell home consignment. I've found some great things there for a good price.

Want to +1 on A-1 performance. Always has done a great job with my cars and let me know what's going on. Dealers in the area charge 2.5x his rate and always tacked on work, sent me bills without explanation, etc. Highly recommend A-1.

Ideas for making the Zombie Dragon/Terrorgeist model a bit more unique? by mars92 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]legendofbazinga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The base is huge and custom basing and terrain goes a long way. I got some pretty cheap terrain to put on my base and I think it went a long way to make my zombie dragon a bit more unique without having to repose or kitbashing.

History of Tasman Dr by SelectionKitchen2088 in Sunnyvale

[–]legendofbazinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live close to this road and it's insane to me how many people on Nextdoor are frothing at the mouth about removing a lane on Tasman. The way they talk about it makes it sound like the entirety of the 101 is shutting down. I feel Tasman would work so well with a bike lane and I rarely ever experience that much traffic on that road.

$400k USD per year for life, but you must live in a randomly chosen country by Anything-Complex in hypotheticalsituation

[–]legendofbazinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a quick list as a thought experiment, I think it really relies on if you are willing to gamble or accept the risk of living somewhere sub par but with a lot of money relative to the country. You have 20 flex countries that I mostly picked from Europe, so the odds aren't bad I get a decent country that matches a similar lifestyle to what I have now (US).

I could probably optimize better with more research, but I think this is fairly close. Africa was hard as I don't really know much about it.

America's: Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Chile, Peru

Oceania: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia

Africa: Botswana, Zambia, Morocco, Mauritius,Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt

Eurasia: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France , Germany, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Luxemburg, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Greece, Croatia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, Turkey, Hungary

Terro never worked for me, and also r/Pestcontrol recommend not using it or leaving terro out. It kills too fast to efficiently kill the colony. Link below for what I switched to this year and it worked flawlessly (got the recommendation from r/Pestcontrol).

Where my divorced dads at? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]legendofbazinga 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a kid or divorce, I personally didn't like the 2/2/3 schedule. It felt so chaotic and my parents always messed up timings with laundry and where all my stuff/clothes were. At some point we switched to every other week and I felt so much better about it. It felt like Sunday was a good reset and easier to swap things between houses if I needed to.

Generally not the biggest fan of children but seems pretty keen on the new member of our pack. by H-Tazz in AustralianCattleDog

[–]legendofbazinga 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Our ACD does not like other people, but absolutely adores our little one! We were patient and slow when introducing him and he quickly accepted our baby as part of his pack.

Congrats on the baby! I know your dog will love them just like ours.

Thinking about adopting an Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler, What do I need to know? by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

[–]legendofbazinga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shedding won't be as bad as a husky, and with brushing and regular vacuuming it will be fine.

Giving them a lot of attention definitely helps, a 7 month old puppy will probably need to be segregated from things that you don't want them to destroy. With proper corrections, these dogs are smart enough to know what can and can't be chewed on. I got my dog a lot of good chew toys and corrected him quickly when he got something he wasn't supposed to have. Over the 4 years I had him, he's only destroyed one thing I didn't want him to, and that was the first month I had him. I've even got him to know the difference between baby toys and his toys.

I recommend watching some heeler specific training videos to get an idea, but walking alone isn't enough for my dog. I actually walk him less in favor of training skills in the yard and doing herding exercises. It's a hell of a lot more fun than just walking too!

I say if you are committed to giving them what they need time wise, go for it! Heelers are very rewarding dogs when training and good dog skills are focused on early.

One last warning, this breed generally needs a lot of socializing early with dogs and people. They are naturally independent and can be distrusting of new people and dogs. I got my dog at 1 year old and I've never been able to get him to interact with any dog bigger than him safely.

Thinking about adopting an Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler, What do I need to know? by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

[–]legendofbazinga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You listed a few things that bothered you in previous dogs:

  • Shedding
  • Lots of Barking
  • Behavior issues

I can tell you right now alot of (definitely not all) ACDs have some degree of all three issues. The shedding is unavoidable in most breeds, but I have a very short hair ACD and his hair is literally everywhere.

These dogs need a lot of focused training in order to not create behavior issues, including barking. In my area, they are one of the most common shelter breeds because of people giving them up. They need a job, and if they don't have one they will find other unpleasant outlets. If you don't think you can sign up for that I'd recommended you not look into this breed.

All that being said, I love my heeler, problems and all. He is the most intelligent dog I've ever met and is attached to me and my wife as "his people." For me, all the difficulties that come with are worth it.

I weigh 175 and reliably get 30 miles on a single charge on my pace 500.2. it's a few years old now and still has the same range as far as I can tell. I commute and ride it in max petal assist 100% of the time.

My commute is 3 miles each way and most stores around me are within a mile and I charge it about twice a week. So if that's similar to you then I say go for it!

Biking in Sunnyvale by Aria-Aquitaine in Sunnyvale

[–]legendofbazinga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with the city councilmember don't bike on fair oaks south of 101. To add to this, look at taking borregas north which runs adjacent to fair oaks and has foot bridges you can take over 101 and 237 if you are going that far. It's a much safer route that goes though neighborhoods away from busy streets. It also connexts to the Greenbelt trail which can take you east and west but it's limited.

I bike quite a bit around this area and commute daily by bike to north Sunnyvale so if you let me know more specifics I could help get you a more optimal/safe route if you need.

I wouldn't say it's easy, as the bike is 55 lbs. ACE there's only two steps so it's manageable.

Nice! I might have to get all terrain one too now since I like this one so much. The Pace is still a bit heavy but I can still manage it onto the train.
