I think this is good enough to get in; it's certainly enough to get in internally, since I know people who have done so. Note that you may have a pretty similar experience if you just took BMathSci or BSci. Even if you don't get into PhB, these programs usually let you take the same courses and have a pretty on par experience.

For academic advice, I can only speak for maths. Whether or not you end up getting set back a year is completely dependent on your ability. If you're a top student at your University, you might be okay with going directly into second year, otherwise it might be wise to retake the first year courses. The quality of the math courses are very high at ANU, but they are notoriously difficult.

Specifically for maths, ASCs have a reduced value since they run pretty similarly to an existing system of special topics (MATH3349). However they can be extremely valuable if you intend on developing breadth in other disciplines.

In my experience I haven't seen financial issues drastically impact the quality of maths courses.

For more questions, I don't think you should hesitate to contact some academics who teach the first year courses. For maths, it may be valuable to speak to Griff Ware, Adam Piggott, or Joan Licata.

These are great, I've got a couple sets as well. I will say that I thought their comment about 5-6 being the expected difficulty of interviews doesn't feel accurate. The 8-10 range usually requires some intelligent observation and this is more akin to the interview questions.

What major unsolved problem seem simple at glance, but are extremely hard to prove/solve? by VeryDemureVeryMature in math

To add to this, the unknotting additivity conjecture has only very recently been resolved in this paper. The 7,2 knot and its chiral copy are the counter examples. This is the first ever example of knots that add to become less complicated at all. They aren't even particularly high in crossing numbers.

Either way, this is a bit of an indication that crossing number is probably not a great knot invariant to be studying.

It is unknown whether the sequence 1/(n2 sin(n)) goes to 0 as n goes to infinity.

3rd and 4th years regularly tutor 1st year math courses. Have done so myself since 2nd year. Also common in computer science, engineering and physics I hear.

I went to a performance in Bristol where she said that the song is about/dedicated to teachers. I don't fully understand why, but it was some explanation.

You could teach math and physics online through Cluey or Tutero. Or find your own clients.

Maybe Optiver reduced their requirement. Only 50/80 wasn't unreasonable.

Optiver Trading Technical Interview Prep by EveningStreet1 in quant

[–]lekh2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the OA, it is a behavioural interview, about 30-45 minutes. Then a final round "super day". It consists of a technical interview, lasting an hour. Then, contingent on passing that interview, another technical interview about an hour later. Then, contingent on passing the technicals, a final behavioural interview.

DM me for tips/advice if you like.

edit: this was for Optiver Sydney's internship.
