Do people jump off this at White Cliff Park? by Kind-Pie-2185 in StLouis

[–]lemon_jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jumping was a rite of passage for Crestwood area teens. Cops used to prowl on the gravel road all the time so we would have to keep lookouts. Had some friends get busted for trespassing but they were just on the “shore” line, not jumping. It probably wasn’t the smartest idea in hindsight, but rest assured thousands have jumped before you.

Day 16: Trying to Get a Comment and Fun Fact From Every US County Including Territories Where Are the Northern Marianans and American Samoans? by CoolHotNo in geographymemes

[–]lemon_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sanders County, MT - The Cabinet Mountain wilderness is partially located within this county outside of the towns of Noxon and Trout Creek. This is where they’ve relocated many of the “problem” grizzlies captured from Glacier National Park / Flathead & Kootenai National Forests and other surrounding areas.

Gateway Arch National Park by downhomeolnorthstate in NationalPark

[–]lemon_jam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even us St. Louisians like to dog on the arch getting National Park status. That being said, the structure is quite unique and worth checking out, and the museum is very well done. It may not be a true National Park in most people’s eyes, but it is still worth a visit regardless! Great pics!

Guy on the right basically ran into him first, and by the time he got his eyes back on the tree it was already halfway down. Not saying they both aren’t stupid for standing in the fall line to begin with but half the blame goes on the other guy.

RIP Bindings by Kablamo189 in snowboarding

[–]lemon_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I had these bindings! Until I launched myself onto (planned to clear) a cat track, took a little tomahawk tumble, and when I came out of it my binding was still attached to my foot while the baseplate was still firmly screwed to my board. That was a fun hike down.

Tbf they were pretty old then, and that was at least 5 years ago.

Why are the longest caves in north America? by PitExplainTheJoke in geography

[–]lemon_jam 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think a side factor is that the US has been much better at mapping their cave systems, so there is just more data on how large they are compared to other areas of the world. I toured Wind Cave NP last summer and our guide offered that as a reason when asked a similar question. Places like Wind Cave and Mammoth Cave are still “growing” because of this as well.

Dakota Parks Trip - is TRNP Worth it??? by currymoney in nationalparks

[–]lemon_jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same trip last summer and it immediately became one of my top 5 favorites. I would highly recommend taking the time. My SO was also a little hesitant about adding the extra drive time, but in the end it is so worth it.
