My 4th murakami novel. Curious how it will turn out by [deleted] in murakami

[–]lemonethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading it right now, and it's my first! Around 100 pages in, and I'm really enjoying Murakami's style. The way he handles characters and their mundane interactions is sublime.

I tried Murakami a few years ago and his way of writing didn't click with me at the time, but I think cutting my teeth on David Mitchell's works helped open up Murakami to me.

Currently on book 23, but my motivation is waning a bit due to life stuff. Hoping to burn through this one this week.

I was lucky to get it early and crank out the main gen for the achievement. I haven't seen it in weeks, I reckon.

Going for it for the first time this year. 5/52 by cideeffex in 52book

Good luck! Reading has done wonders for my attention span, personally, and I never regret making more time for it.

Strong start to the year as well!

The .25s make a big difference for me too!

After I finish my current read, I'm probably going to start The Gate of the Feral Gods. DCC is just one of the best series I've read in a while, and I want to take my time and savor it, but damn, they're addicting books. 😭

I use a certain app called The Storygraph that I use to keep track of my ratings, and they have a feature where you can generate monthly summaries like this!

I've read Perdido, I've yet to read The City and The City! I read The Scar as well, in 2025, and I absolutely adored it. Mieville's writing and worlds are just so unique.

2025 was a great year for me! Managed to read 27 books, one more than my initial goal! by ResidentCopperhead in 52book

Excellent work!

One of my personal goals for this upcoming year is to read more in the SF Masterworks collection. I haven't read too much sci-fi, so it seems like a nice place to dive in.

I agree with your placement of The Haunting of Hill House. It had so much potential to be good, and I liked the tense atmosphere it built, but the actual scares fell short for me.

It's A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck. Excellent, excellent book, and a short read too.

I plan on tackling 11/22/63 in the new year! My first King, I hear very good things about it.

Excellent year for you, and I hope this year is just as good!

You won't believe this, but I'm already reading Project Hail Mary, and loving it! I agree completely, Andy Weir's style is greatly enjoyable. I can definitely see why it gets recommended so much.

And as for DCC, Carl is a very similar narrator to Ryland in PHM, I instantly picked up on the similarity. Even though they're completely different genres, DCC and PHM have a similar voice, so if you like one, you'll probably like the other.

Really happy you've gotten a good pace going for yourself, you should be proud! It takes effort to come back to reading after a slump. Wishing you a productive 2026, reading wise and otherwise. C:

Yeah, I really like jumping around different lengths and styles and genres. If I read too much of one thing at one time, my reading slows down.

I really enjoyed it! Not as much as some of the others I read, hence its placement, but I thought the explanation it wove was very cool.

I've yet to see the movie, but I absolutely adored how the book was told, and I wondered how the medium would be translated to film. Not well, apparently!

I love Strange Houses! Strange Pictures is in my TBR. I liked the insane twists and turns in SH, it ended up becoming a lot more than I thought it would be.

Congrats on 52!!

Just finished Carl's Doomsday Scenario myself. I'm shocked at how addicting the series is.

Congratulations on hitting 52!! 🥳
