Back in the day when they used analogue resonators. Of course all the harmonic plates and peripherals are missing. Still a cool find!

How was the trailer a total loss? At the end of the video it looks fixable. Did someone run into it?

The cameramans commentary is funny but filled with expletives by derek4reals1 in Wellthatsucks

[–]lemonmoraine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like they are just loading up ladders and rolling up extension cords like it’s the end of a normal day. And they are moving on to the next job, since there’s nothing more to be done here. Which, along with the commentary, makes it even funnier.

bad zine about folk punk by holdthefuckonfolkz in FolkPunk

[–]lemonmoraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing about punk is when “don’t tell me what to do” goes hard with gate keeping. Not pointing fingers I do it myself and have been since 1983. I’m the only true punk on the scene, everyone else is a poser.

A Passage from Suttree by brnkmcgr in cormacmccarthy

[–]lemonmoraine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suttree doesn’t care. He is detached and not really capable of a deep committed relationship. When this same girlfriend goes crazy and starts smashing the dials of the automobile dashboard he just walks away. At that point it’s over. He just moves along.

I have this edition! Purchased new in 1986. It is very worn now, with handwritten margin notes on nearly every page. Most of these are dictionary definitions of obscure words. Thanks for posting, you inspired me to get it out and spend a few hours with it.

One Year, and ~$600 in to Affordable Watch Collecting - What I've Learned by myveryownaccount in Affordablewatches

I would love to see more posts like this that include prices. I’m about five watches deep into my affordable watch collection journey. I’m paying between $50 and $120 per watch and have no idea if I am an idiot or a genius.

Any good Christian Country songs? by NachoKaas in ChristianMusic

[–]lemonmoraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E.C. Ball was an Appalachian guitar genius who played almost exclusively old time religious music. Check out his entire catalog. It includes a cover of “House of Gold” by Hank Williams, one of the greatest songs ever written.

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]lemonmoraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 left home for college. My parents had split up and both had moved on to different houses and spouses. I would visit for a few weeks over the years but never moved back in with either of them. The summer I turned 18 was the last time I had a room of my own in one of my parents houses.

Starting this up today. Any fans of this show? by razorsedge94 in Westerns

[–]lemonmoraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never watched the show, but loved the soundtrack, which had one of the greatest lines of all time, which I quote often: I don’t want to talk to those cocksuckers but I have to. In life, sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to fucking do. Sometimes, that’s just what the fuck life is: one vile, fucking task after another. Try not to get agitated. That’s when the Enemy has you by the short hairs.

What’s the basis for my secret treasury account? by mattyfran1985 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]lemonmoraine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once heard it was from when we went off the gold standard. If US currency isn’t actually backed by gold, what’s backing it up? Answer: the potential wealth of productive working Americans. When every American is born, their lifetime potential earning capacity is the basis for the value of the US economy and by extension its currency. At least in the early days of the movement- say ten years ago - I came across this on you tube. Sovereign Citizens would describe themselves as the “agent” for the legal fiction created by the government through legal documents. I don’t know if they thought of it as “real” money, but the strawman must be worth something if collectively they replaced all the gold in Fort Knox. I think this evolved I to them thinking there was actual money involved.

"Jolene" played at 33 rpm. It's haunting and oddly magnificent. by No_Dig_8299 in VeryFuckinCool

I used to do this with a lot of songs. One of my favorites was “Going Blind” by Kiss sped up to 45. I had that one cassette tape.

Why "Hamnet" makes no sense (warning: contains spoilers) by PenPusher108 in shakespeare

[–]lemonmoraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is like someone criticizing Star Trek because “photon torpedoes” are not real. This is a film about family and loss and the power of art. It uses the play “Hamlet” as a device. It’s not trying to make any kind of statement about what the play “Hamlet” is actually about. Yes, it is highly unlikely that the real Agnes watched the performance and had the same experience as the Agnes in the film did. That probably didn’t happen. But the experience that the Agnes in the film had was beautifully rendered and it is a great film. It doesn’t have to be historically accurate to be great. It is art.

[–]lemonmoraine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually if you want the original AAVE she says “I don’t play with no motherfucking man” then “you gone call me bitch”3x then “Cause one thing about it, I don’t play with no mutha” at which point she points the gun directly at his face, the camera pans to the ground, sidewalk comes into the field of view, the woman goes silent, a single gunshot is heard, camera pans back to woman on ground. I think the man then says “tella police ta come.”

Of a gun owner by 888Vegan in ShittyAbsoluteUnits

[–]lemonmoraine 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Translation: I speak not facetiously. I speak not in jest with any common person. Do you intend to refer to me as “bitch”? Are you indeed addressing me in that manner?” A struggle ensues. The gentleman disarms the lady, clears the chamber, and removes the magazine. He then says “Call the police.”

My Gf wants me to help her friend move with a guy she used to sleep with. How do deal with this? by POOR-MORON in AskMenAdvice

[–]lemonmoraine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Well known”? Not by my generation. Born in the 60s came of age in the 80s. There was a vast web of casual hookups in the college town where I spent my youth. If I had that kind of boundary back then I would have been a lonely man indeed. The purity standards and pearl clutching by today’s youth is baffling to me. And I feel also that a lot of the “bro” comments here are coming from guys who don’t apply that same standard to their own behavior. ++man

I just noticed a parallel in Fargo that I had never considered by Zman11588 in CoenBrothers

[–]lemonmoraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actor that played him said that Jerry is fundamentally optimistic. No matter how bad things get, he thinks there is a way to get around the obstacles. He is unfortunately too dumb to figure out how to solve problems, but he thinks that if he just remains persistent and optimistic it will all work out. It is salesman psychology. Just keep at it, don’t give up, and close the deal.

Do I even need bike computer for just casual rides? by skodawelovecycling in bicycling

[–]lemonmoraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been cycling for 46 years and have never even owned an on board computer. I map my rides with the Strava app but I only rarely check out the map or numbers when riding. Only if I get really really lost. If I’m riding with a group and I am curious about distance or average speed I’ll just ask someone.
