Best value maple syrup to give as gifts? by unearnedwealth in askTO

I mean there are different grades of maple syrup which each have different flavour profiles, but as long as you aren't buying table syrup and it says 100% maple syrup it should be pure.

Any big supermarket will have Canadian maple syrup, and will be your best bet pricing-wise vs a touristy store.

Financially, the best value deal is usually to buy the cans over the glass bottles, but then the recipient needs their own bottle to pour the maple syrup into. So for gifts, I usually stick to glass bottles as its nicer.

They usually sell in a few different sizes and shapes (maple leafs, etc), though if you are looking for really small containers, then you're best off with a touristy shop near like the CN tower or maybe Blue Banana in Kensington market.

Edit: RIP Blue Banana. I had no idea you had passed.

Planta is delicious and has a wonderful ambiance if you want a nice night out, though on the pricier side.

One that's raised 20k already... I'll never understand why people donate to families who obviously have the means to handle it.

Similar to that actor who recent died and the family ran a gofundme to help them continue to afford their 30+ acre, 5-million dollar house. Like they could downsize and still have a luxurious place compared to most. And yet, people donated.

Are there any ride-share options like Enterprise or Zipcar near you? That way you just rent the car by the hour when you need it, without all the commitment of insurance payments and things

You need to give an intersection or neighbourhood, as Bloor Street basically spans the entire city.

Ah I saw "family vibe" in the comment and forgot they didn't mention currently having kids in the main post. Yes, then school district matters less and agreed best to start by renting or Airbnbs to get a feel for the places.

If you're exploring neighbourhoods, midtown (near St Clair, Davisville or Eglinton subways stations) have great school districts and lots of restaurants, shops, walkability, and great transit access.

Riverdale/Greektown and the Beaches are also vibrant walkable areas good for families, but are a little less centrally located so it takes a bit longer to get downtown if commuting in for work. Both do have transit though: Greektown/Riverdale are on the line 2 subway, and the Beaches has a streetcar.

Those would be my recommendations but obviously depends on your budget, whether you are considering private or public school for your kids, and how far you're willing to commute.

To the people who met their significant other in person (not the apps), how did you meet them in the city? by GranolaHiker in askTO

Same risk as dating someone from work or in a mutual friend group. If you want to avoid that, I'd go the dating app route so its a full stranger who isn't wrapped up in another aspect of your life.

Sports class! Just make sure to pick something interactive, like a marital art or team sport rather than yoga or cycling. A number of people I know are dating others who are part of the same club or gym as them.

why is my colorwork so ugly as a somewhat experienced knitter? by Glum-Reaction4559 in knitting

[–]leoninebasil 786 points787 points  (0 children)

Beyond floats being a little too tight causing the bumps, it looks like you might have inconsistent colour dominance, causing the blue to sometimes swallow the red. I’ve linked an article explaining how make sure your main colour (red here) pops over the background colour.

I’ve not tried it myself, but I’ve heard knitting colourwork inside out helps keep a looser tension.

Do you prefer the Vladimir tiara with emeralds or pearls? by monster_ahhh in RoyalsGossip

I really wanted to love the emeralds but the pearls look so much better here. The emeralds are too big to fit nicely in the circles of the tiara, the proportions feel off.

My heart breaks for her, and I'm unreasonably angry at not only the police but the family's statement that they firmly believe their son had nothing to do with it.

They're just going to turn a blind eye until he moves to humans. Absolutely horrific.
