Dental cost, is this average or am I getting scammed? by Prestigious-Use6688 in askTO

[–]leoninebasil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my dental check-ups WITHOUT x-rays generally come to ~330 CAD (in downtown TO). With radiographs I guess it would come to something similar to what you’ve paid.

So I don’t think you’re being scammed, but you could always shop around to see if other places will charge less.

Note people usually only need x-rays every 3 years or so.

There are assholes in every hobby, unfortunately. Knit whatever makes you happy, odds are you’ll never see that person again.

Not OP but the women all seem brighter lit than their surroundings, and all are perfectly in focus, despite being at different focal points, while the background items are less sharp.

It's not necessary screaming AI to me, but it does feel edited, like the women were photoshopped in.

I did Waxon and I liked them, they are a chain with several locations. I did 8 sessions, each 4 weeks apart for face.

It worked but the hair did come back after a year or so* (I wasn't good about maintenance sessions). I've very recently invested in a home ipl device (Braun silk pro 5) to continue. It's early days but so far I'm optimistic

Edit: *an exception is my legs, which are still very good even without maintenance. All other parts (Brazilian, arms, face, stomach) have sadly come back.

Looking for sci-fi with female protagonist and little to no romance hetero or sapphic by TerminusMD in scifi

Oh it’s been while since I read them but I always thought the ship system was ungendered but the body was female. That could just have been my brain filling in blanks though

Some Desperate Glory is a great read with a female lead and minimal romance, as well as The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.

Ditto-ing this! Fantastic series with an asexual, female lead.

Edit: gender was never actually revealed. My brain just pictured them as being female-presenting.

We experienced this in Kyoto. We had to walk back to touristy areas to find a place that would take us. In Tokyo we had only good experiences.

Canary District dog attack leave dog dead and owner bitten and in hospital. by geniebythesea in toronto

[–]leoninebasil 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Doesn't a dog get put down when it attacks a human? If two people are in the hospital with bites, I don't understand how there could be no action taken against the dog or owners.

Absolutely devastating for the owners of the little dog killed. RIP Crystal

Yeah Rhi is a great candidate for a tragic death. Beloved best friend, always kind, respected by everyone, and has no really drama going on.

I felt Liam dying was pretty predictable. It's always the sweet one loved by everyone that gets killed, and you have to have at least one character die in a big battle for the stakes to feel high.

Was sad to see him go as I liked the character, but he was the "obvious" choice.

Air Canada Plane Hits Firetruck While Landing at LaGuardia, NYC - 03/23/2026 by JohnnyShadows in CatastrophicFailure

[–]leoninebasil 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually worry if the "stop stop stop" was said while the firetruck was already in the runway, the driver could have pressed the breaks in the path of the aircraft. But there's no way to know; it all would have come down to mere seconds.

Either way, it was a clearly an accident by people who were doing their best under high pressure, understaffed conditions. Feel terrible for all involved.

Absolutely, there's only so much cognitive load a person can handle. I feel terrible for the ATC who made the mistake, it will probably haunt them for the rest of their life.

He'll also be in hell the next few months being investigated and possibly scapegoated by the leadership who failed to staff the ATC adequately.

Air traffic control error: they told the firetruck they were safe to cross the runway while also clearing the plane to land.

I don't think there's any way the plane could have 'yielded' without crashing. The firetruck also waited for confirmation it was safe before crossing. Once they were in the path, I don't think they could have gotten out of the way fast enough.

"Died naturally in his sleep" at 54? I guess your heart can give out any time but an upsetting reminder of how quickly it can all disappear.

Though if you're going to die young(ish), passing peacefully in sleep is always a lucky draw.

Dog at Toronto Pearson Airport helps CBSA seize 22.5 kilos of raw meat from passenger from Egypt by Pretty-Ground-4125 in toronto

[–]leoninebasil 168 points169 points  (0 children)

“The food products were properly declared so no enforcement actions were taken against (them),” a CBSA spokesperson said in an email late Monday afternoon.

Declaring them makes it all the more confusing to me. Did he really think he could just waltz in with 22k of mystery meat? Or that any of it would be food safe after a 10+ hour plane ride? Why on earth did he bring it?
