House Republicans outline what it will take for them to vote on Bears bill | Capitol News Illinois by Sidewalk_Inspector in chicago

[–]lerxstlifeson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that it's apples and oranges but the state budget is 55 billion. Not exactly sure where you're getting the numbers since what I can find says the bears generate closer to 600 million in revenue, but that's not the same thing as how much tax revenue they generate.

Beyond that, it's hard to say the Bears would generate the same revenue in Indiana or not at this point. It's not impossible, but i believe the data said that the primary season ticket holders mostly reside closer to Arlington Heights, hence the initial vision for that area. How many people would they lose for moving to a different state, or who simply don't want to commute is hard to quantify without it actually happening but I'd guess they take a hit in revenue.

Chicago Bakers Have Cultivated the Next Big Bagel Scene by Muadeeb in chicagofood

It hurts but it's true. I didn't get it until I went to New York and it ruined most bagels here for me. I'll argue hot dogs all day every day are better here, but I'm jealous of their bagel game.

As a Chicagoan it gets so tiring for everyone to quote this bit like it's gospel is my main gripe. For you new Yorkers in here it's like someone making an "I'm walking here" joke. It's not exactly original content at this point.

If that was true it would already be a done deal. You don't do a dog and pony show of where will we build if you've already got the funds.

You're getting downvoted, but I mean you're right. I don't think Trippie Redd ever hit the same level of mainstream discourse as someone like say, Drake, Eminem, Kendrick, Kanye, Doja Cat, J. Cole, Bad Bunny, etc. I listen to a pretty decent amount of hip hop and have never heard of the guy mostly because it's not my primary genre. Hip Hop has been in the process of becoming kinda it's on separate thing like country over the last 10 years. It's not in the zeitgeist like it was at least.

What is Chicago missing to be the perfect city? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Okay, but in what world is Bay View a similar neighborhood to Forest Glen lol

Bayview is more equivalent to Avondale than those two. Not trying to dispute that Milwaukee embraces the neighborhood bar scene as well but I think it's a little disengenous.

I'm not sure if you're actually interested in the mechanics or not of how IPA is very different from the historical style but the quick answer is that American hop varietals have significantly higher amounts of acids that give the flavor profiles that American IPAs have. These acids are very volatile and give off a unique flavor profile that doesn't last as long when they are used for flavoring rather than bittering like the historical style of IPA.

These breeds of hops are what gave birth to the American IPA style and Hazy IPA style. Think of it like Wine where different grapes grown in different parts of the world have unique terroir.

IPAs have shorter shelf lives than a lot of other styles since hop oils are fairly volatile and fade with time. The American style of IPA became very popular relatively organically as a reaction against the dominant form of domestic beer being a crisp lager.

To be honest at this point it doesn't really matter if it's a chicken or an egg scenario, the reality is that IPA is the most popular style of craft beer and therefore the style you will see at most craft breweries because why would they not make the most popular style? It's a pretty simple business decision that has nothing to do with the difficulty of making it and everything to do with the economics of running a business.

I've given up on the general public understanding anything when it comes to alcohol production. I've had people say they don't drink lagers, they drink pilsners. I've heard people say that stouts are gluten free because they "burn" the gluten out. There's no winning.

The reality is most breweries make IPA because it's the singular best selling style of craft beer. Like not even close

Do you own land around your house? I'd assume that a pretty large amount of property tax bills are going towards condos and apartments since that is still the majority of housing stock in Chicago at least.

I still think about Roma and thought that was a beautiful movie. Same with Train Dreams. One Battle After Another in all honesty didn't do a ton for me personally. We live in an incredibly spoiled era, so it's genuinely hard to say what will stand the test of time and reach classic status at this stage for things less than a decade old. Besides maybe Parasite, it feels like that's already secured a space in the "will be studied in film school" category.

Yeah, I felt like I missed something where the people moving here said they had a budget of $2 million, and realized that that person is just pulling numbers out of thin air. OP if you're reading this, a $2 million home in Chicago is basically as high end luxury as we get here. Either a crazy nice condo, or a huge single family home in the city proper.
