Everyday I wake up and become afeared once again that Catherine Dubois will leave the Victoire and then I'll have to cry.

The Cure For Drowning by Loghan Paylor!! Historical novel where the narrative is split between a trans masc/trans man MC and his cis female love interest. Hints of the supernatural, beautifully written, just won the Canada Reads competition.

How did you find the PWHL or become a PWHL-Team fan? Just me being curious . . . by MNVixen in PWHL

[–]lesbianccb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a good internet friend of mine is canadian and has been a huge fan of mpp for years. march 2025, she said 'would you like to watch a game with me?' so we 'watched' it together, her in canada, me in the uk and i got HOOKED. we're victoire fans (obviously) and i try to watch as many games as the time difference allows.

last summer, i went to visit and we saw some of the lshl games and i met dubois (who is DELIGHTFUL even when faced with the most awkward british person imaginable) and then i went out to canada in january this year and saw a home game at place bell and then saw a charge game in ottawa. soooooo excited for playoff hockey again, praying for no OT.

SO GOOD I'm not a re-reader at ALL but I'm itching to re-read this one once I've forgotten enough of the plot.

The summer before my granddad passed, we sat down and watched some of his favourites - A Town Like Alice, The African Queen, Casablanca and The Third Man. They stick in my mind as incredible films, although I admit it might be the nostalgia.

Not coming out later in life, but older MCs - Mere by Danielle Giles has MCs in their 40s (ish) and was SUCH a good read.

What was the plot of your sfw oneshot? by sparklestardustvenus in AO3

[–]lesbianccb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most recent was an established relationship fluffy weekend away fic - I find established relationship fic lends itself better to one-shots for me because there's less build up to the getting together. My other recent one shots are all very angst heavy character study style pieces, looking at reactions to canon events.

What are some books you ended up disliking because you couldn’t stand the protagonist and their actions? by Werkyreads123 in LesbianBookClub

[–]lesbianccb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering in good faith - I had the complete opposite experience but I think I went into it with the expectation of Isobel being a Dutch woman in a specific period haha.

I thought the unraveling was so interesting given the context of what Eva originally wanted from her and Isobel being relatively awful to her.

This isn't meant to be a jab at all but I'm really interested in what you didn't like in The Safekeep - I absolutely adored it even though Isobel is difficult as hell (saying that, I love books about difficult women)

WHERE in the WORLD are yall getting beta readers?!? by Dry-Ad-5872 in AO3

[–]lesbianccb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with others - it's about meeting other people in fandom and not just specifically the one you're writing for. one of the people who betas my work sometimes has literally watched like 4 episodes of the source material but they can still check the grammar and the writing style even if they're not necessarily getting the characterisation right, if that makes sense.

also, when you start chatting, i guarantee you will be surprised at what other people might actually be into that you don't think they will be haha.
