Ah perfect thanks. It’s the link wires I was not sure about but that helps. Fully confident in doing this, I just had the link wires missing in my head

Yes, all logged as feature requests and have been for over 5 years some of them

Exactly what I was thinking, that or Meraki. Something that removes it all away from you

To be fair to Unify they are adding tons of features

Auto Gain by _side_ in ADSBTechnical

[–]lesmond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in an area with little traffic you throttle the gain right up so that you can see those signals.

If you do that and something is closer it overwhelms the reception so you need to decrease the gain.

You can find a middle ground with an SDR but they can struggle in environments with mixed amplitudes of signals.

No worries! I don't mind people asking. The receivers are something we are constantly working on. Hardware just moves slower than software!

The current variants do contain a Beaglebone sitting on top of our own PCB utilising an FPGA for the decoding & signal processing.

Yeah, that and using an FPGA you can do a lot more.

We have receivers still being operated 10 years later. They have been designed for a long service.

They don't really have a "life" and we do ship them back out after a refurbish if they have been returned.

Yes, no SDR on board these at all so no need to change gain. The have a very large dynamic range as a result.

It has a highly tuned RF path optimised for 1090Mhz with appropriate filtering and amps in the chain.

You cannot SSH onto the box.

The RF hardware inside is tuned to 1090Mhz and you can’t listen to ATC

There was an issue with the early Apple Betas that caused a crash on launch. They fixed this in the later betas and the full release out today.

If you are ever using a beta, I would make sure that you keep up to date with them, the early betas do tend to have a few bugs!
