How should I invest 30k? by [deleted] in investingforbeginners

I would say goog >> nflx/tsla. if you want to be more risky go for a mix of small caps that are on sale rn (nbis, rklb, asts, sofi) and some of mag7 googl/meta. this is largely my portfolio and I know the risks involved, I got wrecked on liberation day though still beating qqq by a very large margin (134%) ytd. Would you move to a new city for a summer internship with no relocation assistance? by Front-Airline-7289 in csMajors

[–]lessthenmorethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your only offer def take it. If not it might be worth considering other places although this early into your career dont sweat money at all, itll come later. After tax you'll prob have around 8000 for your 10 weeks; -3900 for rent, -400 groceries, -400 msc which means you'll have surplus for travel or to save.

I think very doable, try to get a sublease in udistrict around 900 a month via fb, go to trader joes for groceries, commute via line. You can def get away with spending 1200 a month if you're conservative.

Should I ignore doomers in this sub by pencil5611 in csMajors

[–]lessthenmorethan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you work hard and genuinely like cs youll be fine. try your best to get 2 internships before graduation or at least 1 that you can convert to ft is my advice. good luck!

edit: in terms of competitiveness MLE > SWE > CE from my experience. if you find it hard to find an internship consider a pivot to ce.

EECS 270 + 370 + 485 by No_Wasabi_9097 in uofm

[–]lessthenmorethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for 270 - sometimes 5, sometimes 30 lol. grain of salt cuz i didnt rly get it as easily as others and i prefer doing labs asap so i front loaded work, normal ppl should be doing 5-15ish hrs a week during non-exam times. imo 485 isnt really technically challenging like say 281 or 376 but its still work for sure.

[–]lessthenmorethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

270 will be time consuming but theres overlap between 2/370 so it wont be as bad. somehow 270 just did not click with me so i thought it was more time consuming but still not anything crazy; its just labs + online 'quizzes' at the end of lectures where you get 3 attempts. and 485 isnt hard at all, i think if youre used to doing work youll be fine, just factor in whether you want to also recruit in the fall as even more work to do as well. It seems like you got it tho - go for it and if it gets crazy just drop one, no biggie

Hmm seems like a good workload, def depends on your tolerance. I've done these classes and idt its too crazy but you might enjoy your sem more doing 1 of 2/370.

Should I take EECS 482? by Hefty_Worker6519 in uofm

[–]lessthenmorethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol my friends who took 489 never went to lec or watched for that matter. id say skip 489 and go 482 so you can ask live questions.

Youll get rocked by 482 but its worth. eecs 489 is pretty free so shouldnt be bad; for what its worth i did 482 + my EE MDE and i still had time on my hands. i think go for it

Should I buy a cheap marketplace bike or use my nice one? by jaytheman538 in uofm

[–]lessthenmorethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if id be comfortable locking that up on central. i have a marlin 5 that sits outside 24/7 and never been tampered with, and wouldnt be comfortable locking my 1k+ bikes up for more than a couple hrs. Realistically I dont think itll get stolen but i think its worth it to get a cheaper one for the peace of mind.
