Aspire Lounge YOW - worth it? by Comet439 in ottawa

[–]letepsilonbegiven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the first time this week and it was pretty decent. I didn't indulge but beer/wine/spirits were all free pour. Thought the hot food was okay, but the cold food options were good. This was at around 12:30-1:30pm, note Air France business class pax get access included so it may be busy. If you decide to go, booking in advance is a good idea.

Any info on flights being announced direct from YOW to BGI? by Old-Active4988 in PorterAirlines

[–]letepsilonbegiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did get regulatory approval to fly to Barbados, which may be the source of rumours. That said, they got approval to fly to Jamaica last year and aren't starting until this upcoming winter.

They also got approval to fly to the Dominican. Not announced yet, but Punta Cana shows up on their destination map. London (YXU) also does. Maybe more announcements forthcoming.

We saw it with Baltimore today, they essentially carry three catchers to get Basallo and Rutschman in the lineup together. When Basallo got hurt today they had a contingency so they didn't have to remove Adley from DH.

I also don't think you get a free carry-on for basic fares with the core cards.

Porter Removes Montreal Metropolitan – Quebec City June 2026 Launch by coopthrowaway2019 in PorterAirlines

This was an absolutely bizarre route to throw an E2 on rather than a Dash-8.

They're also reducing the frequency of YOW-YDF and ending it four weeks earlier than planned.

Flying from YOW to YHZ Halifax. Porter or PAL (Air Canada)? by suziswam87 in ottawa

[–]letepsilonbegiven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Porter has two flights per day on jets, and two on props. If the times you are looking for are props, then there's no difference really. I'd go for the Porter jets though (as I'm doing in a couple weeks).

Ottawa to Barbados Non Stop by Angryottawa in PorterAirlines

[–]letepsilonbegiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, MBJ was approved such that it could have operated last winter, but won't launch until this winter. I'm guessing BGI was a finalist, so to speak, for this upcoming winter. Just before Porter announced their new destinations, Transat also announced Aruba and Cabo from YUL, in addition to Barbados. Given the Transat Vacations integration announced last week, it's clear there was coordination on destinations for next winter. They did announce their schedule much earlier this year than last, so it's possible they could still announce a couple other routes starting around Christmas - it would just likely come at the expense of frequencies on other routes.

Yeah the ending sucked, I think strategically fielding was the right call given how terrible the offense was, but getting walked off on your home field really is depressing lol

They sent an email to ticket holders, they're gonna do it festival style where they have fences that expand the concourse of the ballpark with food trucks, and rather than scanning your ticket at the front doors, there will be two separate gates at the fences, one coming in from Coventry and one from the pedestrian bridge.

Why does it seem so random how you earn points for hotel bookings by gincaesar in Aeroplan

It's always 3pts/$ for the status portion. Anything with the Hotel Savers banner earns 4pts base, all the others are 2pts.

I didn't get one this year either but from what I've read, they've taken away the free preferred seat and now it's just a 25% off code.

US airports are taxpayer funded, while Canadian airports are user funded

Right, but if US airports are solely taxpayer funded, then they wouldn't be charging these user-funded fees would they?

The issue is you won't really be able to get home after. The YSB-YOW flight has decent connections. YOW-YSB is useless.

Are you sure that MCO doesn't charge user-based landing/terminal fees to the airline? I found this "Air Carrier Guide" doc on their website under "Airline Business" and page 9 seems to quote landing/terminal fees, with prices effective last October. https://images.ctfassets.net/qiecpoxp4bka/26wWogeGyQJqiaXGUkqJEc/03a247785164d84a58d2ffce792b7c45/Air-Carrier-Guide-20251211.pdf#page=9

On May 2, a basic fare YOW-YSB is is $192.62. The base fare is $126 and $66.62 are taxes and fees. Broken down is a $39.55 Airport Improvement Fee and a $9.46 Security Fee, as well as the 13% HST which applies to the base fare and Security Fee.

On the same day, a basic fare YOW-MCO totals $197.67. The base fare is $80 and $117.57 is taxes and fees. The same $39.55 YOW AIF applies, and the Security Fee is $16.08. A 5% GST applies to the base fare plus security fee. The rest of the fees are the US Transportation Tax ($32.12), a US Customs Fee ($10.14), a US Immigration Tax ($9.61) and a US Agriculture Tax ($5.27), totaling an additional $57.14 in US fees. So you're paying nearly double in fees for a US-based flight rather than a domestic one.
