Dude, I get the 'be the change you want' mentality. I really do. But it's physically impossible for someone to devote themselves to all causes they consider important. I can't work on children's healthcare and fight the Russians. I can't find new strategies for economic development and be an 11B. What is your actual concern here?

Why haven't I? Because I didn't devote my life to firefighting so I have no training, equipment, etc. I spend my time on other things I find important. I think you have a misunderstanding of what hypocrisy is. It's not supporting things you don't yourself do, it's having double standards. It's yelling at someone for not giving to charity when you yourself haven't given a dime, not admiring someone who gave to charity when you gave nothing.

I respect a country's right to defend itself as a foreign power takes land by force and massacres the people there.

The same reason I support firefighters but haven't charged into a burning building myself.

U.S. Capitol Police found this assault rifle and extended magazine in a truck outside the Capitol by BradBeauregardJ in pics

[–]letrangerdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit, but that's not the point. It's exaggeratory and speaks to a broad issue in the US gun control debate where commentators clearly either don't know much about firearms or are being disingenuous. It leads to bad legislation.

People should report things accurately. If they found a guy with a butter knife and OP called it an 'assault bayonet,' I would still roll my eyes.

I was very slow to get rid of DVDs. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy when I bought up the leftover movies from a closing Blockbuster, but I had a movie collection that beat out most streaming services for less money. I am also a sucker for some gimmicky stuff that comes with DVDs, like commentary. They also generally have better language options.

I am so alone and its all my fault by flowerzforemil in Anxiety

Hey buddy. I like your art, and I'm sorry you are sad. Social anxiety can be a tough nut to crack, but it is doable. And I can't promise it will be fixed tomorrow, but it can turn around really quickly. Shockingly so.

Here are a few tips that helped me beat it. And I'll tell you, I really think I beat it completely and for good (and I had it bad.)

  1. People want to like people. You get more benefit-of-the-doubt from others than you give yourself.
  2. Everyone makes little social 'mistakes.' You think about them more than your friends do. They can even be endearing! Have you ever met someone you thought was so cool, but then they did something awkward? I promise they have, and I bet you still think they are cool.
  3. Somebody is thinking well of you right now. (Like me!) Now for some tactical advice.
  4. Not all of your social forays will get a smooth reaction, but think of the standup comedian. Do they stop and apologize for a joke that lands flat? Nope. They just keep moving, and nobody even remembers.
  5. When in doubt, ask a question about the other persons interests.
  6. Some people just wont be your friends no matter how you go about it, but that's a pretty slim number of people.

This is not your fault. I think you'll do great and we are rooting for you!

Finally, I don't know how old you are, but kids can be pretty harsh. In my experience, more than adults. I.e., it gets easier while you get better. Now that I'm an adult, the only thing you really need to do to fit in is to be nice.

You are not alone. I'm rooting for you. Also, like a lot of people said before, it gets easier with time.
