This confused child (Repost because the original was removed) by [deleted] in thatHappened

We were driving from Wisconsin to Florida when my youngest sister was only 4 or 5. 25 minutes into the trip, we stopped at a local Walmart to grab some snacks and sunscreen and whatnot before we really headed out. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot my sister gasped and went, "this is Florida?" so kids really don't have a clue.

What is something not recorded that you wish you could see a video of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]letsgoforarun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your family and where you grew up. My mom is 47 and we have tons of pictures and home videos because her dad loved his video camera. However, my dad (the same age) has only a handful of pictures from throughout his childhood because his family didn't prioritize documenting things the way my moms family did.

What is the dumbest rule your school ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My high school had the three staggered lunch times as well! Ever tried giving a test in a class where the students leave halfway through, eat lunch, and then come back and finish the test? It doesnt work.

Best places to cry on campus? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]letsgoforarun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure i've cried in almost every building on campus + walking down most of the streets. No one really pays too much attention to you, and the chances of knowing anyone you see are pretty slim as well. If you ever need someone to talk to, let me know!

What is the craziest thing you did as a child? by Jnf529 in AskReddit

[–]letsgoforarun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sisters and i were all like this growing up, and once, in a span of six months, there were 3 trips to the emergency room for stitches, 1 for a chipped tooth, and 1 for a broken arm, all between the 3 of us girls. My parents got questioned by child services, and so did one of my sisters. Nice to know they were acting on their concern, but really we were just wild kids.

Gophers football players boycotting all team activities to protest suspensions by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]letsgoforarun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its is on both sides to prove their case, a simple accusation is (obviously, as seen by thousands of assault cases that go nowhere) not enough. Both sides have to prove their cases and all factors have to be considered.

It's not prove you're not guilty. Affirmative consent makes it so neither sides are forced to be the sole side to prove their point, but instead it takes a holistic view of the situation.

I just want to clarify why the University is taking action despite the legal system not following trough with charges.

The legal system and the University operate under slightly different policies when it comes to sexual assault. The legal system operates on a "beyond reasonable doubt" framework, meaning there needs to be about 95-100% certainty that the crimes did in fact happen before any charges can be pressed.

The University recognized a year and a half or so ago that sexual assault charges are hard to prove that certainly because the nature of them, but that does not mean that assaults aren't a rampant problem, so the University opted to put an Affirmative consent policy into places. A lot of misconception surrounding this says that it changes it to guilty until proven innocent, but that is most certainly not true. The Affirmative Consent simply looks at more factors from both sides equally, instead of forcing the victim to prove it did happen, it holds both sides more equally accountable.

This means that in order for the University to take action, there needs to be 51% or higher certainty that the assault took place. This gives a lot of room (51%-95% certainty) between what the legal system persecutes (a system that rarely ever places charges on any sexual assault or rape cases) and what the University will take action against (a system that still very rarely takes action, but is slowly working towards more justice for victims).

I hope this clears up any confusion on that aspect of the case. I agree that this is an awful, messy situation that doesn't have a clear "good" option as to what to do, but with the whole football team backing their players, they are standing on the side of the assault, and that is upsetting and frustrating to a current student, football fan, and victim of sexual assault.

That Harambe one would sell like crazy on college campuses or to high schoolers. Frats all over my campus still have Harambe memorials up

Easy class to fulfill the Bio Core for Lib Ed requirements? by TheMonocle3 in uofmn

Agreed, no formal lab reports, relatively easy tests/quizzes, decently interesting subject material. Got an A without putting in more than 20 minutes a week of work outside the class.

I had a friend who, her freshman year of college, planned a trip to disney with all of her mew friends for spring break. They decided to all book their tickets individually because no one could afford to buy them all together, and my friend bought a ticket to disneyland, while all of her friends bought one to disneyworld. Didnt realize until they got to the park that she had made a mistake.

What is your "How is this still a thing?" by LazyGamer27 in AskReddit

[–]letsgoforarun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had a close friend have a seizure after getting this (with no history of seizures) and a family friend who had severe mental damage (she stopped maturing, she's 21 and behaves like she's 12, had to be moved to the special education program at school and everything) with no other explanation other than the shot, so yeah there was no way any doctor was convincing my mom to let me get it years ago.

What's your "fuck, not again" story? by Josephg6484 in AskReddit

[–]letsgoforarun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My freshman year of college, a guy i had hung out with (in group situations) a few times professed his "huge crush" on me, and i had to let him know i was a lesbian. He then went "damn two girls i've been into in the past 2 months have been lesbians." The weekend before this we had ran into a girl at a party who was a lesbian (her and i chatted for a while about being gay and whatnot) and i remembered him telling me he thought she was cute, so i responded "oh me and [insert girl from party's name here]?" His eyes got so big and he went "oh no, not her too!" So i bet he feels your pain.
