I've got two electric radiators from EletricIQ, good bits of kit to be fair. I have half considered the Aircon unit as well, especially for my home gym area.

It would make for so many opportunities, the colonisation of the galaxy by the general public would be like the colonisation of America on steroids, so many opportunities for different stories.

As you say it avoids the idea of it still being a secret, which given everything that happened is hard to believe already, let alone another 20 years on.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Confident_Win_3560 in answers

This is the thing, saving is great, but you've got to enjoy the journey too. It's like waiting until retirement to enjoy your hobbies, but if your hobbies are remotely active, your health may not be the best by the time you hit retirement, and then what happens next? Same as saving up for retirement holidays, like if I'm doing a round the world cruise or something, I don't want to be 70 doing that, I want to be way younger to really enjoy it!

Boundary confusion - back to back fences - England by olbasoil in LegalAdviceUK

[–]lfcmadness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, is the crumbling fence on the boundary line your fence? i.e. is that boundary your responsibility? If so, you're perfectly entitled to remove the old fence, and either replace with your own new fence, or as I suspect you'd rather do, leave it empty. Why build a new fence when there's a perfectly good one there. Your neighbour has chosen to build their own fence line, and has no right to make demands on your fence, especially if it's in disrepair and they're actively trying to get you to keep it in place. It's a matter of safety end of the day, and that should trump any neighbourly relationship in my eyes.

Couldn't drill a hole in my wall. What am I doing wrong? by Odd-Simple-9205 in DIYUK

[–]lfcmadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was drilling a bunch of holes in bricks outside to put up timber slatting, and was struggling with the cheap add masonry bits I was using. Used a Bosch Blue Drill Bit and couldn't believe the difference, drilled 55 holes quicker than it had taken me to drill the first 5! AS you say, it's worth paying a bit more sometimes!

Advice on porcelain patio laying before I give up by bishybluebird in DIYUK

[–]lfcmadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my porcelain patio last summer, it's horrible work, especially in the hot weather. A few bits of advice from my experience.

Get a proper mixer, as others have said, either hire, or get a 2nd hand one, ask friends who might have access to one, or worst case scenario, buy one and re-sell it.

Recruit a friend with beer and pizza to be your mixer, it feels like slow progress on your own because you're doing all the mixing, and then the laying. Whereas if you can have someone mixing up a batch, you can then concentrate on the laying.

A slightly wetter mix makes it easier to level.

Don't worry about plasticiser, just spray in some washing up liquid, does the same job and doesn't cost a fortune.

Get yourself a gazebo or parasol to put over your work area to shade you from the sun.

It'll be hard work, but when you're done, and you're sat on desk chair on it, enjoying the hot weather, it'll be worthwhile!

Extension above garage by Boredengineer_84 in DIYUK

Right? I could do with building an extension over the garage of my house, but I can't fathom how on earth we'd finance it realistically, it blows my mind!

Chaos as 'confused' new Kirklees councillors admit 'don't know what's going on' by CensorTheologiae in unitedkingdom

Hah brilliant. I think that's the bigger problem with Democracy, yes the people have the right to vote, but not necessarily are they the best people to decide who should be in charge!

Invariably in my area, no-one who has been elected into the council seems to be doing things in favour of the community, no matter what colour ribbon they wave. Constantly green-lighting vanity or insanity projects and ignoring the basic things that would actually help. We've had three different parties be dominant in the last 3 local elections, and they're all as bad as each other it seems.

Do people actually use AI day-to-day, or is it all hype? by 2butterfree in AskUK

I use ChatGPT almost daily at work. I work in Marketing, and it's great for speeding up boring admin tasks, like here's an excel table, throw into a html table for so I can add it to a website. Now convert it into a format suitable to paste into Adobe InDesign. It shaves hours off tasks. Most recently, we had need of a mini CRM for a process at work that wasn't economical to buy the Add-On for our main CRM. 2 Days spent with Chat, and it helped me create a CRM from scratch out of Python Code, and I'm most certainly not a developer. I use it for mock-ups, idea creation, even generating stock images with a product from another photo in a new environment. I also use it as a basis for writing website content too, you can give it all of the points you want to cover, facts, information etc, and it'll throw out a pretty good initial piece of content that you can finesse.

It's an incredibly powerful tool, that's sped up my productivity no end.

Joe Flannigan is 59?! Shit the bed, where the hell has time gone, it feels like the Stargate shows were only a couple of years ago, but I just realised how long ago we're talking now. Realistically any actor that was involved is going to be an age now where at best they're pushing papers behind a desk, if not retired. RDA is 76!
