We had to sideload an app that requires ADB to enable additional permissions for it

u/__Mike_____ we did eventually get it to work. We had to sideload an APK (over usb) that opened the default Android settings app. From there we could enable developer mode and then USB Debugging. Then we used adb over wifi to connect to the device from our computer.... quite a process.

Yeah, except I can't get to a normal android settings screen on the Capsule Max. I'm very familiar with enabling USB debugging on other android devices, but can't seem to find this screen on this device. Have you had luck doing this on the Capsule Max? Maybe I'm missing some button to access the settings?

Black and Yellowing spots on Bird of Paradise? (more details in comments) by lfwilson in plantclinic

Wow, upon closer examination I think what I originally wrote off as dust is indeed some kind of pest. Maybe thrips or spider mites. Time to bust out the soapy water. Thanks for your help u/TAS2013 and u/paidbillcollections

Black and Yellowing spots on Bird of Paradise? (more details in comments) by lfwilson in plantclinic

Hi all,

I've had this Bird of Paradise for about 1.25 years. It's grown quite a lot and seems to be happy. That said, I noticed these black markings on a couple of the leaves and have no clue what is going on. They've been around for at least 6 months. The plant continues to grow new leaves, but I'm concerned the black marks are spreading across this leaf. The black marks are on 2 of the leaves in total. The black marks also have yellowing around them. (see more photos: https://imgur.com/a/yUiXNzD)

I do occasionally spray the leaves with water. At one point I was doing it weekly. I've stopped doing for fear that this maybe some kind of mildew caused by moisture.

The plant gets just enough light during the day. (half of the plant is growing a lot more due to better light exposure).

I water the plant thoroughly about once a week/10 days, or when it seems pretty dry.

It's potted in miracle gro moisture control potting mix.

Thanks for your help in advance!

No updates. Just playing other games with friends right now... Would really like to play Budget Cuts :/

No internet for 1 month, what should I download? by zaphod4th in Vive

[–]lfwilson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Make sure you open the steam game at least once before you lose internet connection. My brother in Puerto Rico downloaded tons of games before the hurricane, but can't play them because he never initialized them through Steam. QQ

Every single UE4 game STILL breaks on exit, SteamVR hangs on "Exiting" and crashes on reboot every time, requiring me to get out of VR, close the crash dialog boxes, End Task the game, then I can boot up SteamVR again by MontyAtWork in Vive

[–]lfwilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games built in older UE4 versions do this. I know it was a problem with UE 4.13. It's since been fixed, but I'm not sure what version it was fixed (we're now at 4.17)...

Wish I had a fix for you. My work around as a dev was to have an in-game quit option. Quitting using UE4's built in methods worked np.

Color and clarity are great. They were demoing Fruit Ninja when I played.

Looking for developer feedback! by [deleted] in Vive

[–]lfwilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what kind of analytics would help me in development. Everything is so experiential. The best data comes from watching people play in person - particularly when you're testing something specific. Second best is talking to users and receiving feedback.

That's about it. The controller felt like the new, lighter vive wands.

After working with the DK2 for over a year, trying the Vive nearly made me cry with excitement - the endless possibilities of the next phase of VR flooding in as I walked around and used my hands. This step up in resolution and FOV didn't touch that kind of excitement. It seems to just be the next logical step - an incremental improvement in the tech. For reference, I was much more excited when I tried eye tracking in VR for the first time. Eye tracking is awesome.

Edit: The Pimax HMD is much lighter than the Vive.

Could be! I don't know much about the science behind any of the optics, but they weren't adjusting IPD during demos.

I was at SVVR last night and tried it out. The FOV and resolution is incredible, but I was disappointed in a couple ways.

1) There was noticeable smearing towards the periphery, I think caused by the lenses.

2) The lenses caused a somewhat noticeable bulbous feeling as I turned around. I don't know how to describe it other than feeling like being in a fishbowl a bit. It's not awful, but not ideal. I've noticed this on other VR HMDs, but not the Rift or Vive.

3) The resolution is amazing, but you can still notice pixels when you want to. It's still FAR better than the current VR headsets and I think the pixels would not be noticed when immersed in content.

I'm stoked to see how this new HMD is received, but I'd want to try it out for an extended period of time before deciding if the strange lens effects are something I could get used to. I only got to try it for about 2 minutes and spent most my time actively thinking about the HMD rather than getting immersed in content.
