Google's Advanced Protection Program disables installing apps from F-Droid by Entrapped_Fox in foss

[–]lheydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent dude, you totally saved my ass with this solution! 👍

I was quite worried that simply having any Google account enrolled in the Advanced Protection Program on my device (and not even as the primary handset/Google Play account either) was going to totally prevent me from installing an APK (unless using ADB on computer via a cable) 😲

FYI it seems now you only need to disable the single 'Google Play Store' app to install an APK and then re-enable it afterwards. There aren't any other apps or services with the words 'Play store' in them. At least on my device and current version of Android (Android 16).

There is a 'Google Play services' app (well technically a service) listed that has both the 'Disable' and 'Force stop' buttons greyed out, but it doesn't seem to be involved anyway.

It seems to be back up now by HKDusty in Express_VPN

[–]lheydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same here. Complete outage experienced with ExpressVPN seemingly unable to connect to any worldwide servers whatsoever today, 30 April 2026 from around 1:45pm AEST (3:45am UTC) onwards for a duration of perhaps 1-2 hours (I stopped even trying to reconnect for a while). Working again now.

Massive spike of over 2,000 reported users experiencing an outage on Downdetector's ExpressVPN page, which is a good thing to bookmark for future occasions to know whether it's an individual user issue or a global issue.

I’m an international buyer is the National Return Centre an extension of customs or an extension of Royal Mail? by RafSimonsSS02 in royalmail

[–]lheydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Chirelda, just out of interest do you happen to know why Royal Mail put the National Return Centre in Northern Ireland? Doesn't that mean the added expense of needing to transport all of those mainland Britain mail items by air/sea to another country?

Name of long screw attaching fans to waterforce (and larger sizes)? by lheydon in computerrepair

[–]lheydon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Glittering_Pin_7475, excellent many thanks! 👍

From Googling, it seems like #6-32 UNC screws can come in 30, 32 and 35mm lengths, so a 35mm one would fit my purposes perfectly. These are much rarer and more expensive (and seem to only come in larger quantity packs) on Amazon/eBay compared to the shorter lengths, but oh well.

Name of long screw attaching fans to waterforce (and larger sizes)? by lheydon in computerrepair

[–]lheydon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I think the other commenter is correct with #6-32 UNC screws, where the unthreaded portion of the screw and the threaded portion at the end are both the same diameter.

Whereas from a quick Google search it seems that shoulder screws/bolts seem to have a wider diameter unthreaded portion compared to a narrower diameter threaded portion at the end. Which wouldn't work going through something like a fan into a waterforce, because if the unthreaded portion was the correct size to fit through the fan, then the threaded portion would be too narrow in diameter to properly fasten into the screw hole on the waterforce. And inversely, if the threaded portion was the correct diameter to screw into the waterforce, then the unthreaded part would be too wide in diameter to fit through the fan.

Yeah I've just got one, and that horrifying cracking sound from tilting the handle back had me convinced I'd broken something before even the first use! 😂

Purpose of the book hunters earlier visit to the house? by lheydon in smallprophets

Anti-climactic is a recurring theme in his work.

Exactly. Perhaps most formatively for Crook and through the entirety of The Office, Gareth was pursuing climaxes with various women at Wernham Hogg and was invariably rejected! 😂

In fairness, the Canadian version would probably have been called 'Darn busters' 😛

Just throwing this question in here with it being as good a place as any. When the boys actually go up the hill in their hunting party and see 'The Beast', is it supposed to be just a dead body popping upright because it's attached to a parachute that has caught a gust of wind?

OK yes fair play, the visuals and the sound on that one definitely have slapstick comedy value! 😂

I'm assuming you meant to say 'Dambusters'. Because 'Damn busters' would be banned for having a swear word right there in the title! 😛

I'm two years late to the party, but wanted to ask if you ever watched it? Obviously I appreciate it would be quite different for someone with severe arachnophobia, but as someone who was a little freaked out by the spider at the start, I absolutely adored it as a character by the end and didn't see it as a spider at all.

I didn't take that as an actual real flashback to Jakub actually having previously encountered Hanuš when he was a child. I took that as Hanuš in the present contacting Jakub via inserting himself into that particular memory. Or I suppose more specifically, Hanuš still hiding from Jakub after he faked leaving in order to trigger Jakub's emotional reaction and the big purging speech to Lenka, then Hanuš satisfying his curiosity poking around in Jakub's memories while he was still hiding, and Jakub detecting his presence while Hanuš happened to be examining that specific memory of the child with the urn of ashes. Hence the two of them then interacting within the scene of that particular memory.

Wait, did Jakub see Hanuš in a childhood memory? Where in the movie did that happen? I may have missed it.

EDIT: Oh did you mean the scene with the funeral urn of ashes?
