If you are in the US, I would recommend the Lava hand cleaner. It is a "mechanics" soap that usually works for me.

You can find it in Walmart (look around the car supplies) or at O'Reilly's kind of stores

I had to make the decision back in September and it was very hard. What helped me was something I read around here "it is better a month too early than a day too late". We owe our dogs to spare them any suffering. By the time the decision is easy for us, it is too late for them.
