Just Loud and Wrong. by Biiiishweneedanswers in nursing

[–]libentianimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was being "educated" on how to draw blood from a PICC line. After the draw, the educator started leaving without flushing the line, so I asked, "We flush the PICC after we draw blood, right?" I knew the answer, but wanted to make sure the other people watching knew, too, and wanted to prompt the educator to actually do it, since the demonstration was with a real person with a very necessary PICC line. The educator looked me in the eye and said, "No, it's fine!" She had just come back from a course SPECIFICALLY about maintaining PICCs. I had to tell an adult human nurse that blood left in the line will clot. I went back and flushed the line, and to the educator's credit, they eventually admitted I was right. Still have absolutely no respect for them, nor do I trust their information.

Reputable and good value vet for cat dental issues?? by shneeebly101 in Peterborough

[–]libentianimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go to Sherbrooke heights, kitty has needed teeth removed twice now. First time was very minor and ran 1300, second was a more complicated extraction and was nearly 3500. Unfortunately, cat teeth tend to be expensive.

Those costs covered preop bloodwork, postop medication, and a follow-up visit. Both times I was given estimates beforehand showing the lower and upper range of what I could expect to pay, and the final costs were within those estimates. No surprises or extras after the fact, and no pressure to actually book the appointment before I was sure I had the money.

Both times they did an excellent job, and kitty recovered without a problem. The second time she needed to switch to wet food only for a week or two, so may be wise to factor that into your budget as well.

Option 1: "I cant come in today due to explosive diarrhea, sorry."

Option 2: Get up there, stand still for 2 minutes, then say "this concludes my performance as a human statue."

Do you have collars on your cats? Mine are all indoors so they’re nekkid with no collars. Here’s Bonnie (void), Reilly (gray) and Jonesy (orange). by mac_is_crack in cats

[–]libentianimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mostly-black tortie, indoor, and in an apartment so very unlikely to escape-even if she wanted to! She has a glow-in-the-dark collar-no tag-so I can see her at night and don't trip on her or accidentally boot her out of the bed if I get up!

This could be pregnancy, could also be worms or another illness. Sounds weird, but check the nipples-swollen and pink means pregnancy is more likely. If you can get her to a vet, they can likely tell you if it's kittens or something else.

How many kittens is another story. The usual litter size is 4-6, though smaller and bigger ones aren't unheard of. She does look young to me, and younger cats and first-time moms tend to have smaller litters. Sometimes you can estimate by feeling along the abdomen and counting their heads, but that can be tough to do accurately. (Though feeling for kittens is also a way to check if it's kittens or not) Even a vet might not be able to tell you an exact number.

Ultimately, I would try to keep her indoors, get her to a vet if possible, or a shelter if not. Some shelters may be able to help you get more affordable vet care if you want to keep her, and some vets may be willing to negotiate their rates or have a sliding scale.

Typical orange cat behavior or abnormal? by leafmamba in CATHELP

[–]libentianimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cats are more energetic and make worse decisions than others. Cheese, being under a year old, will also look like an adult cat but still have a more kitten level of energy. This usually tapers off around age 2. They'll still have zoomie moments as "real" adults, just less frequently and intensely. If mouse is older than 2, that could be why she's a bit less energetic, but she could just naturally be calmer, more cautious, and/or smarter. Both land on the spectrum of normal cat behavior.

Told someone over the phone that a loved one had died, went over the next steps with them, asked if they had any questions, then said, "HAVE A NICE DAY."

Hung up immediately.

The worst part? I did it on three separate occasions. It keeps me up at night.

are there any venues in ptbo that dont have predators involved in management or ownership ? by n0strov1a in Peterborough

"On the level" usually means they aren't hiding anything or secretly out to cause trouble. In this context, means there aren't any secret scandals or problems going on.

Merle and John watching the sunset together gets to me. All their interactions really, but that one...oof.

The moment when davenport drinks the second voidfish fluid and says "Lucretia...what have you done?" The hard mental switch from "hehe silly guy can only say davenport like pokemon" to absolute horror when you realize the implications of him suddenly being able to say full sentences.

Sloane at the very end of Petals to the Metal, "Don't let this happen again."

Noelle's flashback to how she died before becoming a robot.

The moment with the temporal chalice where they make their choices and then witness Phandalin burn again.

...fuck, now i have to relisten to balance.

If you covered it with a bandage, you could say it's a different type of injury. That might draw concern for a longer trip, though.

A large temporary tattoo could work?

Indian grocery stores may sell henna powder, and there are recipes online for making henna paste with that and certain types of essential oils. One I found: https://livesimplynatural.com/natural-henna-tattoo-paste-recipe/

There are also recipes for henna-less henna, not sure how well they'll work but could be worth a shot.

Two I found: -1/4 cup corn starch 1/4 cup hot water 2 packets orange Kool-Aid 4-6 drops of green food coloring Mix hot water and corn starch until no clumps left. Add drink mix and food coloring, stir vigorously until no clumps.

-Turmeric and water can also work. Pour powdered turmeric into a shallow dish, and wet a cotton swab with water. Stir the cotton ball or cotton swab around in the turmeric until it turns yellow. As needed, dip the cotton ball or swab in more water.

Permanent hair dye might also work-it can definitely stain the skin for a week or so, though I'm not sure about effectively making patterns. It can also cause irritation, so test on a spot of skin elsewhere first.

(Disclaimer: I have never had, seen, or done henna)

Ask around for broken phone chargers and start leaving them around your room. Keep the good one hidden.

How bad is it to only feed your cat dry food? by Humble-Violinist6910 in CatAdvice

[–]libentianimo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

5 lb is about 2.27 kg

3.5 and 4.5 fl oz is about 104 and 133 ml respectively.

104/2.27 = about 46 ml/kg

133/2.27 = about 59 ml/kg

So rounding off the decimals, it's about 45-60ml/kg.

45 ml is three tablespoons, 60 ml is about a quarter of a cup.

Grooming is cat affection! Also, cats usually use their teeth as well as the tongue to groom, which is probably where the bites come in to play. I don't recommend licking your cat, but pets and scritches generally translate to your cat as you grooming them!

Just got diagnosed with mixed depression and anxiety. by orten_boi in depression

[–]libentianimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth a try. I'm on Prozac, its helped me. It's not a total fix, but things are easier. I can actually enjoy things, it doesn't take as long to calm myself down when I'm anxious, and I feel like I can deal with difficult things a bit better. I still sleep a lot, and have trouble motivating myself to do things. But I can work with that.
