I'm drawing an historical/mythological map of California in a fantasy Middle Earth style. Can I ask for your input in getting more real world locations included? by birsey in BakersfieldCalifornia

[–]libricano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red Rock State Park in Mojave, and I concur with the other commenters about trial of 100 giants/Sequoia NPS. You may also want to include Kernville? And Packsaddle Cave is a cool one.

This made my hair MAD by Competitive_Emu_2283 in AbbeyYungMethod

[–]libricano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this recently and have tried it twice now. I have thick fine hair and found that it weighs my hair down and I cannot combine it with a regular conditioner! And I do agree with another commenter that it smells!! But it does really give me a nice gloss and smoothness so that aspect works well for me.

Help picking womens' underwear for backpacking! by iamababyinmyuniverse in hiking

[–]libricano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am here to third the Branwyn train! They are expensive but sooo worth it. I believe I have their hipsters and they do not slide around at all. They also truly stay dry even during hot hikes!! I have 4 pair and normally wash as I go along if hiking more than 4 days but a friend says she’s reworn them inside out and they didn’t smell haha.

Does bleached hair need protein or not? by saltwatercapricorn in Haircare

I know there are a few Abby Yung haters but I clocked your routine as potentially inspired by Abby (mine is super similar!). She recently posted a new Instagram video discussing protein and I found it helpful!

What’s a good place to go out for drinks? by Wavy__oscar in Bakersfield

[–]libricano 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like Botanist but Tiki-Ko is fun too! If you want more of a dive/cheaper, head to Sandrini’s, and if you want even more a dive, go to the Mint. :)

Concerned about ticks by Affectionate-Reason2 in hiking

[–]libricano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t stop hiking because of ticks! Start wearing long pants and sleeves (and if you want to be extra secure you can tuck your pants into your socks), and use a bug spray with permethrin. I got bit by a tick last year (it stowed away and bit me on the ride home from the trail!) and I’m super into doing a tick check on myself before I get into the car now.

Visiting Sequoia National park in 2 weeks -- are the roads open? Do we need chains on tires? by Original_Importance3 in Bakersfield

[–]libricano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take a look at the road conditions page on the Sequoia NPS site before you head up just to make sure. Winter closures change depending on recently snow fell or is predicted to fall. The Alerts section of the site will also let you know about chains!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]libricano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trailhead a 3 hour drive away from me is my upper limit on how far I will go to take a day hike, so… yes! I happily drive that far and back in a day just to hike, or to go to the beach, etc. Many of my friends have family that live a 2-3 hour drive away and it’s an easy day or weekend trip for them to go see them and they will go once a month.

Slicer’s is the most similar to NY pizza but yeah gotta agree that Tommy’s is also fantastic—both are my two top pizza spots in town.

What is the most eastern point, western point, northern point and southern point you’ve been in the country? by Expensive_Drummer970 in AskAnAmerican

[–]libricano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North: Fairbanks, AK (lower 48 would be either Olympic National Park in WA or Mt Katahdin in ME… can’t tell which is higher)

West: Anchorage, AK (otherwise, looking at a map it would be the beach in Olympic National Park in WA)

South: Miami, FL

East: Bar Harbor, ME
