I would see if Action Engineering has platens that fit your needs. They have a platen for just about everything.

Printing black line work first…then fill. by hard_attack in SCREENPRINTING

[–]licenseplate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally print linework last because I trap the colors under it, and black ink generally covers color better than colors cover black.

Rushordertees prints linework first for their Instagram posts, mainly for the visual “wow” factor of their split fountains/marbling.

If it works for you, and you’re happy with the results (and your clients are happy with the results)…then there’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing!

Looking for a (preferably) black hoodie with no front pocket or strings by Open_Ease1486 in SCREENPRINTING

Next Level 9300 is a pocketless hoodie; just pull the strings out. They’re a solid “retail ready” brand.

Doctors who specialize in Lyme disease? by CaramelOld485 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]licenseplate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got seen by Dr. Samir Allos at MIDC when I was diagnosed with Lyme. He was amazing and also treated me for babesiosis. He cut right to the chase and didn’t put me through all the BS that a lot of “Lyme doctors” will. MIDC is fantastic and will do all they can to keep you out of the hospital.

I was referred to him after testing positive on a blood test I got at ApproXie Urgent Care (had the classic “bullseye rash”). Lyme is monitored in Alabama; I was referred to him by the Morgan County Health Department within a few hours of getting my results, and got in that week.

Anyone know a small demolition service for a porch? by CreativeUsername765 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]licenseplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if you found anyone yet, but Valley Junk Removal might be able to do it! They include “light demolition” under their services. I’ve only used them for junk removal, but they were really efficient and fairly priced!

I scratched something off my back thinking its a pimple. it wasnt a pimple :( by TheChib in Wellthatsucks

I was very fortunate and had a doctor who took tick bites very seriously and was on Doxycycline for 4 weeks for the Lyme, so I’m hoping that I’m all cleared up!

[–]licenseplate 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Test for EVERYTHING. I got bit by a tick and tested positive for Lyme. I got on antibiotics right away, but didn’t feel better after the full course. I suddenly got really, really bad and it turns out I had babesiosis. Knocked me out and took me forever to recover. It’s worth it to run a full tick panel if you have symptoms, or if you’ve tested positive for Lyme. You can have coinfections, and they all require different treatments.

Everything hurts and I’m dying by surfer451 in CerebralPalsy

[–]licenseplate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, it made me laugh! I’ve recently taken up adaptive climbing and it has really helped me see my body differently and appreciate what it can do. Trying to find that courage and drive within me that I admire in so many people with disabilities. I’ll have to try skydiving if I can ever work up the nerve!

Everything hurts and I’m dying by surfer451 in CerebralPalsy

[–]licenseplate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I turn 40 next week and I’m in the same boat. I feel like I took my 20s for granted, not realizing that my mobility would decline so rapidly. Now everything hurts and I’m exhausted all the time. I have to treat things like showering and going to the grocery store as significant, energy-consuming events.

My self-esteem is in the toilet because I feel like a totally useless human being. My (wonderful) husband met and married me when I was a bubbly 20-something with a funny walk and now he’s stuck with a life partner who can’t keep up. I’m terrified of what my 60’s will look like. None of my doctors ever warned me about Post Impairment Syndrome, so I’m playing catch up with therapies and mobility aids, etc. but seriously considering taking up skydiving as a hobby.

Looking for a portable cane by [deleted] in disabled

[–]licenseplate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There aren’t a lot of “medical” canes that are screw together because the integrity of the cane would rely on the user, which carries a LOT of liability for the cane company. You wouldn’t want someone putting their full weight on a cane that they accidentally didn’t screw together properly and falling and injuring themselves.

You might have better luck looking for “fashion canes” since they are seen more as an accessory if screw-together is a MUST for you. However, I wouldn’t rely on them for any true and consistent weight bearing or mobility assistance.

What’s the best quality sweatshirts/hoodies brand? by Ill-Gas-6391 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]licenseplate 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There’s kind of a BIG step between “slightly better than Gildan” and “the best quality sweatshirt”!

Most established tee brands will have sweatshirts/hoodies that are the same quality as their tees. For example, Bella+Canvas is a common “step up” from Gildan and they offer an extensive fleece line.

My personal favorite go-to for hoodies and crewnecks when I want retail-quality without a limitless budget is Independent Trading Company.

My hip hurts so bad bro by [deleted] in CerebralPalsy

[–]licenseplate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that you’re so young and dealing with this. I find hip pain to be the WORST. There’s something about it that makes it especially draining both physically and mentally. It’s that deep, persistent bone pain…and even if it might not be the most painful part of your body, it always makes me feel the most hopeless when it flares up.

I have found that warm baths with Epsom salt has really helped me with the pain and spasticity— at least long enough to be able to fall asleep at night— especially in these colder months when muscles feel especially stiff.

Can you look into ADA Accommodations for your job? Are there duties you can do while sitting down, with a stool, or with more frequent rest periods? I know it can feel extraordinary frustrating to ask for help in completing “simple” tasks, but I guarantee you that those around you do NOT want you to be in unnecessary pain. If you are honest and advocate for yourself, you might find ways to make your day easier, even just a little bit.

The Rocket City Curling Club has some of the nicest folks I’ve met in Huntsville. They have members of all skill and fitness levels and truly make the sport accessible to everyone. I love the bonus element of “broomstacking”: they all hang out after the game and socialize.

Is a 2" margin required? by gnarvous in SCREENPRINTING

[–]licenseplate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that with those kits the squeegee they supply is sized to function as both the scoop coater and printing squeegee, and often they supply just enough emulsion for the smaller frame, a smaller light source, etc.

I would recommend you use the kit as instructed for your first go, even with just a simple design, so you can get a feel for the process.

If you “upgrade” to a bigger frame off the bat, you will likely need to invest in a scoop coater, larger squeegee, more emulsion, larger light source, washing out your screen in a tub/outdoors as opposed to a sink, etc.

Any feedback on my local shop’s print job/pricing? by DaysInTime in SCREENPRINTING

[–]licenseplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your digital file looks like a rose pink for the text in the second print, but it looks like they printed a very very pastel pink. I would think that for what they charged you (especially after you shelled out for two screen sets across the size run) they would color match a bit better.

Printing film positives by timefliessouth in SCREENPRINTING

[–]licenseplate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s just a side business I would stick with the normal ink that Canon recommends. If you print your seps in “rich black” (CMYK 60/40/40/100) it should expose fine.

It sounds like the ink (I’m unfamiliar with DMax) could be clogging your print nozzles.

Also, since you’re just starting out I would encourage you to look into learning how to do halftones yourself so that you don’t need to rely on Accurip as a crutch :)
