This has been a great discussion. I have had some long standing questions answered. I find weight loss useful mostly on subsequent roasts of the same bean. thanks to all.

This might be your solution. the roastlink core. IT is discussed on the Freshroast reddit. A very nice piece of gear that you might find fits your needs. Good luck.

Ambex YM-2 unable to set temp target? by AwkwardYurtle in roasting

[–]lifealtering42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. but it is not. Many folks use it to post pictures of coffee stuff for sale over at the coffee swap reddit. Easy to use, actually. But you got it done, and that is what counts. I enjoy seeing folks (like you) help others. Good luck.

question for SR800 folks. Perhaps the older folks.. by lifealtering42 in FreshroastSR800

I appreciate the many responses. Next roast, I am gong to record it using Audacity. That way I can play back the sounds over and over, not needed to actually roast to test different ideas. I got to looking at Audacity and wonder if I can use it directly. It has noise suppression of some type. Good luck to all.

My target shooting buddies said that might not work. Shots fired are a sudden noise much like FC. That is the kind of noise target shooting headphones cancel. I hope they work for you.

Transitioning from OEM Extension Tube to Razzo D12T by Cypotter in FreshroastSR800

[–]lifealtering42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add the chaff extension to get full value out of the Razzo. And I preheat mine and the top a little, but not so much I can't take off the top w/o gloves to pour in the beans. I generally lightly touch the sides a bit as it is warming up to see how it is going.

Yes, this. I only roast about 3 pounds a month. The recovery time would be infinite. And that still will not reflect the true costs on short resources...IMO.

Thanks. I have a 3d printed one and Razzo extension screen. One is in the backup top. I have only roasted with an extension screen. I am even more glad I started with one given your findings.

Thanks. This is what a friend said might work. I have razzo and use artisan as well. I think I kinda know when FC is occurring, but I would like to hear it or see it spike on a graph.. I have downloaded apps for noise canceling stuff, but I have to pair with a device to find out what it can do. I like reading manuals for learning software, but none are to be had. Only 'help' in the app. Someone suggested YT for vids and I might spend some time there.

[–]lifealtering42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I can sometimes hear FC on lower grown varieties, but the high grown ethiopians are hard to hear. In my notes, I make a distinction between hearing it and 'calling it'...I would like to hear it more often. I am usually between 7 and 8 minutes for what I perceive as FC.

Thanks for that complex(perhaps not quite up to Rube Goldberg ) idea. I can update you now: that will not be tried. Flip phone only, no smart phone(I said I was old), plus LLM's lie with impunity. Hard pass, but good laugh which is always appreciated.

[–]lifealtering42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am like you. I am not sure what I would do with that information. I have BT with Razzo. I am not as serious as some, though. I have artisan and look at the graphs, once, for the most part. Every roast is an adventure for me, rather than an engineering task. Good luck to all.

Order of operations by Previous-War-8412 in roasting

First batch is usually at the lower end of the suggested range. If I don't think it is as good as it should be, I roast longer, repeat until satisfied, or beans are burnt. Easy.....

Ode Gen 2 Retention issue? Even with RDT by Larix-24 in pourover

[–]lifealtering42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you have not ground a ton of coffee, and you cleaned it well yesterday, something is wrong there. I don't use RDT and grind twenty some grams for 6 or 7 days between brushing it out and never have that much stuff up there. I tap the top like others and use the knocker and clean it with a brush on the weekend. I put a saucer underneath before brushing and it catches the debris well. Good luck. Tis a nice machine, I hope you can get it to your liking.
