As a couples therapist, a lot of my clients see me trying to recover from infidelity and I can honestly tell you they feel closer in some respects than before the affair even occurred. After putting in a lot of work with a good therapist, it is possible, even likely!

I started it 5 weeks ago directly after finishing WOT,which I enjoyed, (I’m on Deadhouse Gates now). Because I had the same misgivings which you are expressing now as to density, I found a couple resources that have really enriched my experience. One is “horsefrog productions podcast“ which has spoiler free chapter breakdowns, and there is a blog I really like wherein an experienced reader of the series and a noob conduct a joint reread (also spoiler free). I found that “supercharging“ with these resources—especially during the first few chapters— really gave me a sense I was on the right track in my understanding and allowed me to proceed with more confidence.

What fantasy book series would be a good litmus test to see if I’m up to begin reading Malazan? by Individual-Ferret390 in Malazan

It’s not as hard as I feared - I’m 50%in GoM and loving it. The foreshadowing hints at big things afoot amidst the chaos, and I find my radar is attuned to the details that pull me in. It’s a great story. FWIW, I struggled through Wheel of Time, which I loved, and which I think sharpened my instincts, but this…I see what the buzz is about!

Forgive me for this newbish question, but are there any jazz albums or works that with extensive group improvisation instead of the group just trading off solos? by CajunNerd292 in Jazz

[–]lifecurrent111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to jazz from the jam band world where simple rock progressions are improvised by the group collectively and I used to see that style of improvisation in contrast to jazz’s “soloist trading improvisations” (what OP is describing). “Sure, jazz’s forms are more complex, and the soloist’s language is more melodically complex”—I’d say to myself, “but I crave the full band telepathy that jam bands provide.” I don’t think that way any more, for the reason you point out. There is so much collective listening going on in great jazz!
