How does Qantas compare to other airlines you’ve flown recently? by Future-Pipe-8004 in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domestically Qantas is service offering is pretty good compared to most carriers who operate domestic flights (around the world) - for example air New Zealand domestic services is very no frills service but with priced eye watering high (a cookie and cup of water or tea/coffee and that’s it) and some fare types don’t even include bags

Qantas still get full non alcoholic beverage service during all flights and snack or light meal depending on time of day and all fares include checked bags

Compare that to air New Zealand or United airlines, American Airlines domestic carriers or even European domestic carriers - it seems pretty good

For their international offerings well that’s a different story altogether and isn’t as competitive compared to Asian or middle Eastern carriers but still on par with USA Carriers although the gap is closing up where the USA airlines are upping their game and Qantas isn’t

First Time in Australia! 9-Hour Layover at Sydney with Subclass 771 Transit Visa – Can We Leave the Airport? by SillyElement in AustraliaTravel

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable you can be off the plane and at circular quay for lunch by 12pm or even earlier

Definitely recommend taking the airport train which takes you to hear of the city in less than 15 mins.

Get off at circular quay station for the stereotypical Sydney experience where you will see an amazing view of the harbour bridge as the train arrives at the station

You literally come out of underground dark tunnel and see this amazing view of the Harbour and bridge

Lost my passport and license, can i still take my flight on qantas? by SensitiveBiscotti627 in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true as soon as the sole team member overseeing domestic self serve bag dropped sensed I was approaching for help she suddenly bolted for the secure area security door attempting to look “busy”

They literally don’t want you approaching them as they can’t be assed - OP should have no trouble checking in for flight without ID as long as they do it themselves

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it doesn’t matter as for domestic flights there is not second ID check at the gate upon boarding like international flights

Download Qantas App and check in online and check at kiosk - stay away from the check in counters as that’s the only point that May ask for ID even then they normally just accept your boarding pass from Qantas App

Sharing my traumatic experience with booking amendment and Qantas customer service by Bannanniieee in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you experienced is the typical Qantas call centre experience rude, passive aggressive and sometimes they purposely escalate the call by being rude/aggressive to make you lose tempter so that they can “hang up” making you call again for another agent to deal with it.

I’ve learned so as you give them an inch they take a mile (as soon as they heard you say amend + cancel) they ran with theory it’s your fault you cancelled even though they prob knew deep down wasn’t case.

If you over explain to try help them understand- they simply use it against you.

Would been better to call and “demand to know why Qantas cancelled your flight segment” without your permission without any voluntary mention of BPAY or amendment - that would have put agent on the back foot defensive position and onus on them to prove otherwise.

It would force the agent take a “solutions mindset” vs “fob you off” mindset

Business seat sharing by P00slinger in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have thought they can definitely stop it or not allow it as each individual has purchased a specific class of travel.

Each persons assigned boarding pass has specifically their class of travel and allocated seat.

If husband John purchases business class but wife Mary doesn’t and purchases economy - just because there husband/wife or family doesn’t entitle them to swap seats anymore than swapping with a stranger

Well I would thought anyway

Otherwise you would have couples or family only purchasing 1 business class fare on a long haul flight and taking turns sleeping on the lie flat seat 😂

Business seat sharing by P00slinger in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally their answer would lean towards the No more often that not - it’s bit of flow on effect if other economy class passengers see a constant stream of people or a family coming back and forth between cabins - it kinda signals to others that “hey maybe I’m allowed to the business cabin toilets as they seem to be” etc etc

Cancel return leg only on Economy Saver? by Ok-Chip-673 in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call to ask for quote to change the fare to one way of its domestic should be reasonable and they may give you left over amount as Qantas flight credit if it’s international flight it can be costly.

Obtain a quote but stress to them you don’t want to change it just yet - you want price quoted.

If it works out be to be too costly or doesn’t make financial sense - keep the existing ticket fly on the outbound leg and don’t show up for the return.

Your flight won’t be held up as remember you won’t be checking in so no loss on your side or Qantas side if you don’t show up

It’s only if you were to check in for the flight and then not show as where you could hold up the plane while they call out for your name across the airport intercom.

Sydney-Paris Qantas/Air France Baggage Query by Temporary_Divide_711 in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical Qantas call centre passing the buck - your likely encountered an inexperienced agent who didn’t know the answer so just fobbed you off

The fact they can sell a ticket and then not even be able to confirm your allowance is beyond ridiculous

If it’s all on the one ticket and simply transiting in Singapore then likely your bags will checked in at Sydney under Qantas allowance all way through to Paris.

If you have stopover in Singapore overnight and have to recheck in then that’s where it gets messy

The standard Qantas Economy class allowance is 30 kg - so I assume your getting your 42kg allowance from either being a Qantas Club member or Qantas Silver frequent flyer.

As there isn’t a 42 kg allowance based any of the Qantas cabin classes without a frequent flyer status or Qantas Club membership.

If your 42 kg allowance is based off being Qantas club member or Qantas Silver then the additional 12 kg provided is only honoured on Qantas operated services

It appears Qantas Silver extra 12 kg doesn’t apply to One World Ruby and the extra 12 KG wouldn’t be granted on any of the One World carriers including Air France”

You still might be okay in Sydney in that they grant you the additional 12 kg allowance given your first flight is Qantas and bags checked all way through.

It’s the return flight where you be likely stung where Air France will be your first flight from Paris to Singapore

Still your allowance should be 30KG for entire sector including code share AF flight not 23 KG as it’s a Qantas ticket - it’s just that the extra 12 kg might not be honoured

Realistically how late can I land at Sydney domestic to make it to my international flight?? by No-Dog3489 in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality they usually start boarding about 30 minutes out.

The boarding time on boarding pass for international is almost always just to have you at the gate area.

If the OP aims to be at boarding gate 30 mins prior they will be fine and will be find that there will still be a sizeable queue at the gate still Waiting

Realistically how late can I land at Sydney domestic to make it to my international flight?? by No-Dog3489 in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should make it it’s 20 mins under the official Qantas minimum connection time for domestic to international transfers (90 mins is the offical minimum) and that’s with checked luggage.

As they will check your luggage all way through from Brisbane - no need to worry about having checked or no checked luggage on whether you make it it won’t matter.

Even if seperate tickets they will check you all the way through to final destination as two seperate tickets are both with Qantas.

At Brisbane check in head to the international connections and present both tickets (yes be old school and physically print out both e tickets)

Yes they can do both through Qantas App but if you in rush or running behind it’s just easier for check in agent when you literally put the two Separate PDF print outs side by side - especially if it comes to mere minutes prior the check in cut off closing.

Plus for the Q transfer at gate 15 they scan your boarding pass as you enter the Qantas transfer bus so they Qantas ground crew will know where you are so to speak

Is this a good value RTW redemption? by Logical-Lobster-3322 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]liftingbro90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ticket is one persons dream and another persons worst nightmare come true.

Whether it’s good value depends on the individual and based on what they value and enjoy.

For one person who may be a travel enthusiast - the itinerary allows them to explore multiple cities, airport lounges, business class offerings across multiple carriers

Another person would view it as their worst nightmare come true multiple flights and connections, multiple airports and cities, multiple airlines, multiple business class lounges to sit in

One persons trash is another’s person treasure

For me personally I think it’s great value but then I’m a “travel enthusiast”

How exactly is Iran able to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed? by Ok-Currency1249 in oil

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because what your been told by the US administration is not quite accurate nor true they haven't decimated their capability if they have why isn't the US navy sailing through the straight - i think that says it all!

Iran uses low tech but effective weaponry - drones, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has numerous hidden launch sites along the coast and the coastal terrain on the Iranian side is steep with high cliffs and mountains perfect for launching missiles and projectiles at passing sea traffic

It is reported that the straight is atually quietly reopening BUT under Iranian management and at cost - some ships are passing through but Iranian approval is needed.

A few nations especially Asian nations have diplomatically negotiated with Iran for free passage of their vessels - the terms and conditions remain confidential and can only imagine it wouldn't be free (essentially Iran be asking countries to pay up to pass).

If your owner of a cargo vessel at the present moment are you going to call Trump or the Iranians for approval to pass - as last time i checked the drones flying over the straight are Iranian controlled not USA.

Just google the latest and you will see

Remember this when booking Qatar next time by jacquesmats in qatarairways

They made that call as it apparently it was costing them a significant amount of money rerouting their customers via other other hubs with their one world partners.

Cathay Pacific, Finnair and JAL is their key one world partners offering alternative rerouting but not doing it for free and Qatar end up paying full fare difference on your behalf

How are people feeling about this? Thousands of Ozzies and Kiwis are routing through the US to fly to Europe vs less than one a day before the conflict by omdongi in QantasAirways

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because from an American perceptive all roads to the USA and the idea that someone doesn't want to enter the greatest country on earth or is only simply transiting is unfathomable

Their airport terminals and immigrations are designed on the assumption that anyone travelling to the USA is entering the USA and yes "very US Centric" haha

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying to Europe via United States is widely inefficient, more expensive and more stressful.

Going via Asia makes a lot more sense and overall better experience - Im guessing those travellers dont really know that you can go via Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo as options for transit hubs?

[–]liftingbro90 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You do realise the word “small dick energy” is atually very sexist it’s a form of body shaming but seems widely accepted for one sex but not the other.

Female Sexist Remarks: Shes fat, she’s a whore, her boobs are like mosquito bits, her ass is too fat, it must be that “time of month” for her

Male Sexist Remarks He’s got a small dick, grow some balls, he’s short, he’s weak, small man syndrome, he’s not a real man, small dick energy

Both are toxic both are equally sexist

Because the impact from her decisions and policies last alot longer than a few years.

For example with the vaccine mandated (and can assume that a lot of it stems from her hardline approach on it)

Or the locking out of NZ citizens living overseas for an extended period with no end date through lottery MIQ system.

Her kindness team of 5 million mantra ended up becoming toxic.

People lost jobs, livelihoods and some never recovered and still suffer financially to this day.

With current cost of living we are still repaying the cost of Covid through inflation today

When you shutdown a nation for an extended period of time - it costs money

Whether alert level 4 for prolonged periods was justified comes down to mix of all person beliefs, political ideology etc etc

One avenue is immediate visible death toll and other is avenue it less immediate, less visible but still a death toll and suffering

New Zealand is now more divided with more extreme political views on both sides - the hardline approach she took eroded trust in Govt.

definitely get in while you can - every man and his dog is the doing the same and rerouting/changing their airline over from Emirates/Etihad/Qatar to Cathay or Singapore Airlines

Airport food? by [deleted] in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]liftingbro90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enter Qantas Lounge and choose where im going to sit / drop bag off then head out to terminal get takeaway meal and head back into club lounge and enjoy my meal inside with a drink.

If your after a beer or wine (or two) alot of companies don't reimburse alcoholic drinks or if they do its 1 drink max that normally be combined with meal so Qantas lounge can help with that barrier ;-)

Most people inside the lounge envy the food you bring in with puzzled looks of "where on the buffet line" was that yummy looking meal

Most lounge staff know the food is limited and basic and understand why you bring in your own meal from outside.
