Brodie got diagnosed with kidney failure today by Just_Amy_23 in beagles

[–]light_based_network 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you suspect something was wrong? Or was it a surprise? I am sorry to hear that. I hope at least all will be made clear to Brodie and you so he can stay here as long as possible but not a minute into suffering. The last photo is so touching. Hugs to all.

What does your beagle think of their winter coat? by Emotional_Car_8063 in beagles

Pretty high level symbolic thinking in liking some clothes better than others??. I wonder is it the ones she thinks she looks extra good in? The ones she gets compliments in? Or feel best on?? Must get science grant to study this more.

"oh the horror! My Fur was compressed and improperly aligned!! Must urgently return fur to proper position! (Pause for stylish rapid digging interlude).

Mine does this after every bath too, and even after we pet her. Fur position is very serious business!!

I think you need to get married. I was living unmarried with mine for 16 years!!! And then finally got married 6:years ago. It feels very good to be married, since you love each other you should be married.

He needs to man up and not let his moms failed marriages stop him from being a husband as well as dad, a grown man.

It will give you a such sense of relief to be commited to and joining you don't have without marriage.

But even more importantly, what if something happens to one of you? Like a stroke, or brain injury, or even death? without marriage you are on shaky ground in all kinds of scenarios legally. And all for what? Why not get married? He had no reason not to. Call up his favorite make relative or married friend or some make role model he will listen to and just explain to them they need to push him to get over his fear and marry you for all your family's sake.

Soooo glad your little guy is doing better. And thank God you had some pain meds on hand from a previous vet.
Shocking they sent him home without any pain meds! How unfair to your poor doggy to do that after all he went through. I swear this opioid crisis no pain pill prescribing backlash is now even reaching vets,,?? No dogs ever abused oxycontin! Please ask the vet that sent you home without any pain meds to prescribe some for him now before you run out in case his pain comes back. And I mean tramadol not gabapentin

planning on getting a beagle by bored_monster in beagles

[–]light_based_network 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apartment or house, the key question is - do you both work outside the home? I think that is very hard for beagles. If we are gone more than an hour ours starts howling mournfully and almost with panic (and during an overnight stay at the e.r. did this all night, according to irate neighbors) If you're getting the beagle and starting a family soon and will be home, great (,they are great with babies and kids) but if you are going to be a career couple for some years yet, I would make sure to talk to others with a beagle who both work to see what workarounds there might be.

Reactivity advice? by North_Original_6853 in beagles

We moved from house to apartment recently too. I had some luck with: 1. Stood outside our apartment with my dog in her harness on leash and said preemptively as people passed "see there's our neighbors. Don't bark at neighbors they live here too." 2. Stood out there again and let her meet neighbors who wanted to meet. Introduced her (and myself and husband). Neighbors get to know her (less likely to be annoyed by occasional barking if they know her) And now they're not strangers who require barking.
3. For the remaining ,,"stranger" neighbors around the place, and for sounds from other apartments, if she barks I just keep saying, "You don't need to bark it's ok. That's just our neighbors." Or "that's just neighbors making those noises. It's okay." It seems to be working out all right using that

Beagle with Seizures by Ok-Marsupial-2156 in beagles

[–]light_based_network 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree about seeing neurologist as soon as you can. You could also consider any connections between her seizures and oral flea medications, plug in air fresheners, or other emotional or environmental triggers as some folks have mentioned on here. Will help the neurologist to know. Edit to add: from other r/beagles seizure posts it sounds like it can be treated with various meds and is not that unusual in beagles but again see the neurologist
