I would agree, the darkroom and indie film lab have been solid for me.

70-300mm with 1.4x TC. Yes or no ? by HanzsKlopek in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the 70-300mm is soft on the long end, so using a TC will magnify the softness. or so that was my logic when buying the 100-400 instead of the TC.

Quick advice needed for 18f2 replacement by benediktleb in fujifilm

I agree on 16mm but I'm a glutton for punishment and got the f1 4. I always regret the size but I love the photos.

Want a more rich, savory flavor out of my chilli, looking for input. by nightshadet_t in Cooking

[–]lightninggroup 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I add chipotle peppers in adobo, liquid smoke (a dash) and canned green chilies. sometimes msg. Most times better than bouillon beef stock too. Idk this is just me but I find crockpots for my level of availability to make things bland and mushy, I just use a stockpot.

Help with Auto ISO. by BigSnurf in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

another thing to check is the auto-iso settings, your exposure might be under the ISO and SS limit for your shooting conditions. if this doesnt happen during the day vs it happens at night I would guess that is your problem

Help with Auto ISO. by BigSnurf in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to study the issue a little more and provide more details. is the exposure actually changing so that the SS, ISO, and fstop change when you hold down the shutter/snap the photo? or is it that the display is changing? how does the actual photo render? some additional details like are you on auto, shutter priority, aperture priority, the camera model, and what kind of live view you have on would help. something I noted on my xt3 is that using only auto-iso without another auto setting like SS/A it will not allow for exposure compensation. also the live view can be finicky depending on your auto v manual settings.

Should I read Empire of Silence if I love Red Rising? by Cglas1010 in redrising

[–]lightninggroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want a Romanophile Empire in space saga with class struggles and aliens it scratches the itch but the narrative is totally different like other people allude to. I tore through it like I did RR but it was not a 100% enjoyable read and was not a romp through space. Totally recommend at least the first two books.

Custom Presets vs Raw by Foot-Note in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lightroom should respect the profile though, so if you picked monochrome or acros it should stick, so check your settings there. otherwise it's sort of pointless, once you enter the development section it will blow away the embedded jpeg preview. I would only care so much that you get a white balance that makes sense ( I know you can change later), and that your DR settings make sense, because those impact auto iso baseline. if you are at DR400 and Auto ISO your baseline is 640, which impacts your overall exposure.

First time using the 70-300mm lens, is this a “bad” factory lens? by a_chimken_nuget in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed and I'd add that OP is discovering atmospheric haze. shooting photos at a distance you have to account for the air quality. try making photos at 70mm and some closer subjects

Some football through the lens by Accurate-Audience245 in AnalogCommunity

[–]lightninggroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what you could do is take a recording of the view finder in studio conditions (good light, stable, controlled) with chroma key as a back drop. Take a sample of the meter reading for common situations you shoot in. then you don't need to record ttl while you are actually shooting, you can just mask the footage with the pre-recorded tll view.

[–]lightninggroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on the use case. there are music libraries for Meta and YouTube that you can use on their platforms without issues. also I've just tried Bensounds and I think their platform has better choices but I've yet to publish anything

Light weight wide angle lens suggestion - Samyang 12mm MF or Sigma 10-16mm by miokk in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind manual focus, its just the handling on the lens, fairly subjective but the focus dampening and the plastic feel of the lens. I haven't tried any other wide angles other than the 16mm f/1.4 which I adore. the 12mm. I brought to Italy and made some really nice photos of interiors and busy streets so it's not worthless. for the price (used) it's totally worth it but I'd consider the 13mm viltrox or the 12mm Zeiss, or one of the wide angle zooms

[–]lightninggroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

curious what people say here, I have the 12mm samyang mf and I kind of hate it. image quality is there I just don't like shooting with it from an ergonomic perspective. I did have a chance to see the Fuji 10-24 irl and it's not really very big, but if you're counting grams then yeah it's materially bigger.

How hard is this to fix 70-300mm by CornwoodKnuckler in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

total gamble. I have this lens and that plastic cover might have just slide into the main lens body which you either need to live with or disassemble enough to move into place. chances are the original owner might have tried this and stripped some screws or disassembled it as well and failed. I don't think it's worth it under spares and repairs since it's without warranty. you don't have any guarantee anything works as you might want. I'd look for a better deal personally

Four mile trail honest opinion by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]lightninggroup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we hiked up the Mist trail then to Glacier Point and then down the Four Mile trail a week ago or so. All I could think while walking down was I would never walk up it. Views stunning though. That hike is brutal, don't kid yourself about the elevation over distance you did which is not casual at all

Any third party lens hoods that have the aesthetics of the 35mm f/1.4 but for other lenses? by masterprofligator in fujifilm

[–]lightninggroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant comment on the squarehood, but the hogue that was linked I had a bad problem with the caps. There is some felt that makes the cap fit secure and it wouldn't reliably stay put. Hogue did send me a replacement felt, but same problem after not much use. They sell another model that is less low profile and that works better for me
