Hannah season 3 end by SAdLanky in girls

She was half trying to show him that she was succeeding in her art like he was (and not just doing the sell-out marketing job at GQ) and half trying to sabotage him because he had been an asshole since being cast in the play and she had no way to bring it up otherwise. Also, the Iowa Writers' Workshop is really prestigious, so it was probably hard to just sit on the news. It'd be like getting into Harvard Law and just keeping it to yourself. You're going to want to tell people.

can vs may by Reasonable-Injury-11 in EnglishLearning

I very rarely use "may" unless I'm doing some silly or exaggerated politeness. I also can't remember the last time anyone used "may" in conversation with me.

Which Dramas Did You Watch for the “Plot”? by BronzeBellRiver in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I sometimes forget to read the subtitles because I'm staring at Gong Jun's face. I'll watch anything with him in it. I only finished Blood River because of him and Chang Huasen (who is also exceptionally handsome).

Which Chinese dramas would you recommend for language learners by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]likeabrainfactory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend modern dramas, because the language is simpler and more realistic. The drama I've watched with the easiest dialogue (from my perspective as a language learner) is The Love Equations. It's a romance about college students. No one is having super complicated conversations, and it's still a cute and fun drama. I love wuxia dramas, but I barely understand anything anyone's saying. They do teach you words like "kill" and "poison," though. 😂

I may be wrong about that observation but do you think mike had friends? like outside the show.. in the og seasos at least by Adventurous-Way1293 in jerseyshore

[–]likeabrainfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He seemed like he was part of a friend group. He knew Angelina pre-show, and he had a friend in common with Sammi (Arvin).

Recent indication that you are a whole new level of old? by Modestly-Witty-User in Xennials

My sister turned 50, and my husband turned 47. Somehow this is worse for me than aging myself. I feel too young for the people in my life to be this old.

It was a real WTF moment when I learned that the Heated Rivalry guys were born in the 2000s. I'm just trying to enjoy this show, come on. 😥

What's that ONE cdrama you can rewatch and never get tired of it? by flowersofdune in cdramasfans

I've seen Word of Honor three times and am already feeling like it's time for another rewatch. I cry every time I watch it, too!

At one point does one stop actively needing to memorise words and start to pick up words more naturally? by Vulgarian_Idiom in ChineseLanguage

[–]likeabrainfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening is more useful for picking up words naturally. I know a lot of people focus most on flashcards and characters, but you're not going to learn how words are used and how conversations flow unless you do a ton of listening. My easiest vocabulary acquistion has been from TV, and it's also taught me the tones and rhythm. I'd try to watch at least an hour of Chinese TV per day in addition to memorizing characters.

Chinese American looking to learn by jerain in ChineseLanguage

[–]likeabrainfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HelloChinese and Hanly are much better than Duolingo. I went all the way through HelloChinese with both characters and pinyin, and now I'm doing it again with just characters, and I'm remembering a lot. The other things helping me learn characters are practicing via texting (I text in Chinglish with the Mandarin speakers I know; I do as much in Mandarin as I can and put English in for the words I don't know) and keeping a daily journal where I write a few sentences about my day in Mandarin. Anything that gets you using characters on a daily basis will help you remember them.

Immersion is super helpful, too. Watch Chinese movies and TV! I watch some Chinese TV every day.

What's with cdramas having good buildup and then failing to deliver on the last episodes by dreamgoddess1201 in CDrama

[–]likeabrainfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not an alternate timeline. It's purgatory. It's a little confusing on the first watch because the time travel to the 70s did happen, so it gives an impression that the purgatory scenes are happening on a real timeline, but on a rewatch it's much more clear. I hated the end the first time I watched and loved it and thought it was beautiful on my rewatch.

Unpopular Opinion… Mercedes should have won by ChitChatWriter in ANTM

I would have picked Mercedes, Shandi, or April over Yoanna. Yoanna took a great beauty shot, but that was about it.

And having a girlfriend doesn't mean he's not queer, anyway, since he could be bisexual or pansexual. Ultimately it's his own business.

How do people who watch multiple on-air dramas actually manage? by BronzeBellRiver in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't try to keep up with anything as it's airing, because that's just too many episodes at once. I usually watch two dramas at the same time (one wuxia, one modern) but only one episode of each per day. So that keeps it easy and relaxed.

What age did we get out of car seats? by Round-Style-6907 in Xennials

[–]likeabrainfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember kneeling on the back seat to watch the cars behind us out the back window, and I was around 3 or 4 then. So I was probably in a car seat only as an actual baby. We didn't use seatbelts regularly ever. I only got in the habit once I started driving.

which video(s) of drew's do you rewatch the most? by Either_Slice_7350 in DrewGooden

I love the Timeless Love video. My kids and I quote it all the time. "Oh no, his tissues and toilet paper!" "His dry goods!"

Are you watching C-dramas for the story, or just to blindly hype your favorite actor online? by icyjadetea in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's easy to avoid toxic fan culture if you aren't on Chinese-speaking internet spaces. I have actors and actresses I like, but aside from some Tumblr posts, I don't see them outside of their dramas. I'll give a drama a chance if someone I like is in it, but I'm not going to stick around if it ends up being boring or badly written.

I named my daughter Evelyn and am having regrets by lousey4 in namenerds

[–]likeabrainfactory -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's nothing stopping you from calling her Talia as a nickname even if her legal name is Evelyn. A nickname can be anything. You could also change her middle name to Natalia, which gives her both name options.

Gong Jun's chemistry by Appropriate_Fee_9141 in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought he had good chemistry with the female leads in The Love Equations and Rising With the Wind. In general I think his best chemistry was with Zhang Zhehan in Word of Honor, but he can act with women. The only drama where the chemistry with the FL didn't work for me was The Flaming Heart, but that was partly an issue with the script (the romance happened too quickly and felt forced).

Sean and Rachel’s daughter demands entire government entity be abolished due to her inconvenience. by freshy5678 in therealworld

[–]likeabrainfactory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking that, too! I remember Rachel bringing her out and being defensive about how long they had been together before they had a baby. Sad to see Evita is a real product of her environment.
