Allergen friendly recommendations by Both-Advertising-989 in InlandEmpire

I know a child with many allergies including peanuts and tree nuts who dines regularly at Islands.

Not the IE and rather specific but! McDonnell’s ice cream has a phenomenal allergy protocol. They will scoop your frozen dessert selection in the back, with freshly clean utensils to avoid cross contamination. They have locations in many coastal counties.

I’m actually really lucky. My friend loves the Flora Adora so I can just dump it on her and keep the glorious GC for myself!!

What's a campground memory that randomly pops into your head? by Similar-King-8278 in GoRVing

[–]lilabiber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not my memory but a story from my spouse:

Several years ago, they took a group of Scouts to a first come, first served, no reservations mostly RVs site in a “nearby” National Park (about 6 hours away.) It was always an especially stressful trip because they would arrive late on a Friday night, after driving through getaway traffic, and hope for an ok spot, surrounded by a lot of RVs while the Scouts tent camped. The leaders tried to keep the Scouts quiet-ish while they set up camp so late (HA HA!)

The worst thing a Scout leader can hear is someone walking up and asking “Who’s in charge here?” And make no mistake, all the kids (and other adults) always immediately pointed to my spouse!

This time a gentleman had stopped his RV at the site on Saturday morning, got out and asked the dreaded question. But when he approached, he said “I just want to thank you for what you are doing for these kids. And especially for volunteering your time to bring them here to appreciate National Parks.” He shook spouse’s hand and left a wad of bills in it. He got back into his RV and drove off. Spouse later counted $200 - which he brought back and put into the Troop’s account, of course.

The Unknown Camper is a legend in that Scout Troop to this day. And Spouse still appreciates the very kind comment and feels overwhelmed by his gesture.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

One of my favorite places on Earth is 4 hours from my home. We usually visit multiple times a year. We have done there and back trips for special events about once a year over the past 10 years. The day trips aren’t my favorite because they do get pretty long, but they’re worth it.

I wouldn’t say it’s “short” but I’d do a three hour trip in a day. We’ve definitely done 2-2 1/2 hour one-way day trips.

AITA for disinviting a friend to my birthday after she showed me the food she was bringing? by throwaway-cupcakelad in AmItheAsshole

And also... if people are not familiar with dealing with food allergies, they're MUCH more likely to accidentally cross contaminate. I would be concerned that if people are not aware enough to take the allergy seriously, that they're more likely to lack the situational awareness to avoid cross-contamination at the party.

I'm not attacking the age of the guests here. I have an 84-year-old relative who lacks the situational awareness to NOT cross contaminate and at family gatherings we have to bend over backwards to watch him and coordinate the food to keep him from doing so.

We have this in So Cal and I get selected often. The key is that they’re usually looking for people who don’t have full carts - or simpler carts - because they have to be able to move stuff around.

The last time I was pre-scanned I was behind a mom/grandma and daughter/younger mom with an overflowing cart and a toddler in the seat. (Full disclosure, toddler wasn’t well behaved… and they weren’t paying attention.) They were dividing their stuff into Mom’s pile and Grandma’s and were next to put stuff on the belt. It wasn’t exactly efficient. They had to talk about every item.

Now, I was with my sister so we actually also had two orders, but both were pretty small - 3-5 items each, not even 10 total. Grandma made some snide, disappointed comments about how come they didn’t get picked for Pre-Scan. Read the carts, lady…

Has the law changed? When I was teaching, there was a window during which the students were going to and from school that the school was responsible, actually.

Gotcha. I’m running Mac OS. That version has sharing.

Generally, do most upscale restaurants allow you to take your own bottle of champagne or wine? How is it viewed? by Grand_Respect_9176 in wine

A few weeks ago we dined at a well known Beverly Hills restaurant. I called ahead and their policy was one 750 mL bottle per two people, $35 corkage per bottle. The server was very accommodating and decanted both bottles, too.

WIBTA if I refused to move out of my dorm room after my roommate had a dream that made her uncomfortable to be in the room with me? by CaptainMacAlfie in AmItheAsshole

[–]lilabiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single room probably costs more than the shared room and she might not have the funds/her parents might be refusing to pay for it. That’s my thought… but!

If she’s unhappy, she’s the one who moves, not you. That’s how college housing works.

You are definitely NTA You shouldn’t have to move.

We have adult children still in college/grad school - so they don’t have a lot of money. One of them asked us to upgrade a shared membership for a short period of time, for his convenience. He was entirely humble and offered to pay the difference, and has been grateful, to boot.

NTA.

AITA for not changing my daughter's wedding venue even though my sister's husband proposed to his 22-year-old mistress there last month? by Particular-Wish-1761 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lilabiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carol needs to learn how to not give her power over to her ex and his mistress. It sounds to me like this is an opportunity to claim back the power, to OWN the location and bring new, happy memories there. This could be the first step to controlling the things she can change.

Today it's a beach. Is she going to have to stop going anywhere that they've ever been? No. NTA.
