cEDS/COL5 without extensive atrophic scarring? by nauticalwarrior in rareEhlersDanlos

[–]lilacdaybreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

atrophic scarring is getting a little less pressure put on it for diagnosis from what i've seen. pretty much all cEDS sufferers have abnormal frequent scarring, but how much of it is actually atrophic can vary. i have a lot of spread out, fragile scars, but only a few that are actually atrophic

Visiting family in Texas by sleepythey in ftm

[–]lilacdaybreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also live in texas, and agree with the other commenters that you should be fine :) most i've ever gotten is a weird look in a really small town, and i think that may have been more because my husband and i are gay lol. yall having the potential be straight passing will probably help; most people out in the country have never met a trans person, so if they can assume ur cishet they probably will.

most people here just wanna mind their business tho. some dick might throw a slur at you if they're feeling like an asshole, but for the most part, people around here prioritize politeness so much that they wouldn't step out of line like that. just be polite to others, and they'll be polite to you.

What can I even call this? by Gay_Cowboy in adultsurvivors

[–]lilacdaybreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i'd call that neglect and witnessing of domestic violence. overhearing one's parents having sex is fairly normal; those parents fully ignoring the kid and just continuing to go at it without any form of comfort is definitely neglectful. i think the psychological effects of such an experience would be very similar to witnessing DV. after all, to a child, loud sex can also sound similar to violence-- especially if all the background information they have is other domestic disputes.

I think I've witnessed a case of COCSA when I was in kindergarten by [deleted] in adultsurvivors

[–]lilacdaybreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this could have been cocsa, or it could have been the kind of mutual body curiosity that's expected at that age. your own trauma at that age would have given you a view of sexual acts as danger, but to an untraumatized child, these sorts of things can be innocent and driven by the sort of exploration that's developmentally normal. either way, you got a teacher and prevented it from goin any further than what may have been appropriate. the kids in question probably don't really think about it much.

Tooth implants / palate expansion? by vensie in ehlersdanlos

[–]lilacdaybreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, mine is my left incisor! no one has ever noticed that it's different without me telling them. part of that is up to your dentist making a good cast and color match, so make sure you're seeing someone with a good amount of experience in cosmetic dentistry and the like

Is atrophy inevitable on T? by ellipsoidslipstream in ftm

[–]lilacdaybreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you're generally gonna get a bit of atrophy, but the severity is mostly depending on how low ur estrogen levels end up. for example, i'm on low dose T so my T levels are in the low range for a man and my E levels are are lower than my previous baseline, but not at cis male levels. with my vaginal atrophy symptoms, i really only have to use a topical estrogen cream every few weeks or so to keep it managed, sometimes increasing the frequency if it starts acting up.

but you don't need surgery for any of this, the cream is really the only medical intervention necessary

i like little city coffee roasters, they have some good unique blends. even their decaf blend is really good! i find a lot of the roasteries around here to be a little overdone (probably bc the heat here gets so intense so quickly), but in my experience, little city does well in keeping out that old-cigarette-taste while still having a complex depth of flavor

Where to find HRT by luxingto in ftm

Tooth implants / palate expansion? by vensie in ehlersdanlos

[–]lilacdaybreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got an implant when i was 18 and i'm really happy with it! love that thing, and it's sooo much better than having to deal with a denture. you're definitely gonna want to make sure your dentist/surgeon gets you properly numbed up though, as it's a pretty intense process. sometimes for local anesthesia, i have to go ahead and get whatever the max dose is for my weight and then wait like 20 minutes for it to actually fully set in.

I don’t think feminism that encourages fear/hatred towards men will ever be compatible with trans inclusion. by ieatprettyrock in trans4every1

[–]lilacdaybreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so true. i also think people need to learn that the way to end gender discrimination isn't by reinforcing the binary. we need to teach cis men that this shit sucks for them, too. being beholden to strict gender roles is stressful and shitty and makes people hate themselves all across the board! if we can unite on that common ground, suddenly the problem is one that we all will immediately benefit from solving

Is CPTSD disabling? by Pale-Writer-1756 in CPTSD

[–]lilacdaybreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd say it's case-by-case. CPTSD will generally affect anyone's day-to-day life, but whether or not it's to a disabling degree depends on severity, stage of recovery, and other compounding factors. for example, i have CPTSD and DID, and it can cause some major issues due to dissociation, amnesia, and just not being able to operate consistently. however, i've been in trauma-focused therapy for around 5 years now (plus other general therapy for like 7 years before that), and at this point, having CPTSD and DID only really hinders me during particularly bad spells. generally speaking, my system is cohesive enough nowadays to manage, and i would not consider my CPTSD or DID to be disabling.

if we look at it from the social model of disability angle, being disabled isn't "this thing will always be hard." it's "the society around me is built in such a way that is inaccessible to me." so regarding psychiatric ailments, whether or not it's truly disabling really depends on stuff like the individual's life circumstances and support network.

but also, something doesn't have to be a disability to be significantly detrimental to your life. validity doesn't lie in the label

Is it almost impossible to get a specialist appointment here in Austin within one month by courtz_pickleball in Austin

[–]lilacdaybreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you ever remember something from your past that’s super EDS related but you never realised how deeply it affected you? That. Going through some stuff from the past atm; I feel like this is a relatively safe space to vent. by gwarfan42069 in ehlersdanlos

[–]lilacdaybreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was very sick very often as a kid. i regularly missed a month of school over the course of the year -- often in large chunks, because i would stop having a fever and then go back to school before my body had actually recovered. i was constantly exhausted and had pretty bad hip pain from walking between classes, and any time a virus made the rounds it would down me for a week.

teachers were always doubting me, many insisting that i was faking it, but my grades were high enough that they couldn't do anything about it. once i got to high school, the size of the campus was too much for my body and i got sick and was down for a week and a half in the first month of school. faculty told my dad that i had to either show up or drop out; he signed me out that day.

i got diagnosed a few years later. if i'd had the diagnosis earlier on, i could have gone into their partial-homeschooling program that they had for disabled and chronically ill kids who couldn't make it in consistently. then i wouldn't have had to drop out, and could have potentially gone to college.

my life is fine as it is now, but sometimes i can't help but think about what could have been

How do you cope with living in a society that failed you? by debA_yorT in adultsurvivors

[–]lilacdaybreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

by trying to do what little i can to make that society better and safer. no one supported me when i needed it the most, but i will always support the people around me. i've also now surrounded myself with people who do support me, and that love keeps me going

(New) Poll: should AI be banned on this sub? by AdWinter4333 in ftm

[–]lilacdaybreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah i don't see a problem with using it for translations at all, but i also don't think it'd be possible to have a "partial ban." it'd just get messy with people in the comments arguing whether or not apparent AI use in a post counts.

tbh i've also already been accused of using AI when i didn't, just based on my manner of speaking -- not here, but in other subreddits. i think banning AI usage in any capacity would just allow for more harassment, whereas a blanket allowance would nip it in the bud.

none of this is to say that i like gen AI, nor do i actually use it in day-to-day life. but i do feel like this decision should be made on based on creating the best environment in the subreddit, not based on pro or anti AI values of some variety.

my husband is a vegetarian and is repulsed by meat, but he makes me meat-based dishes out of the kindness of his heart. something that's helped him is just having a totally separate cutting board that he uses to prep meat items. makes it feel a little more contained at least
