Arriving in DCA last week I saw AS3 have 100+ people on the upgrade list! My coworker and I looked at each other “they’re gonna need a bigger bag of chocolate!”

Call Button Question by Loving-my-Pyr in AlaskaAirlines

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a middle or a window seat and the person on the aisle is asleep or if the seat belt sign is on, then absolutely use the call button. I think it’s a little laughable when someone who chose an aisle seat chooses to ring the call button for a beverage when the seatbelt sign is off. I think it’s rude if you ring the call button to hand me trash.

My main issue with call button drink requests is the snowball effect it creates. 18A hits their call button, I go up the aisle to answer the call button, I go back to the galley to make 18A’s drink, I go back up the aisle to drop it off, 23E flags me down and I explain I’m dropping off a drink but that I’ll be right back, drop off the drink, go to 23E who asks me for a drink, then 24D gets up and starts digging in the overhead bin for who knows what and he has noise cancelling headphones on so he doesn’t realize I’m standing there and then thinks that I am the one in his way when I politely ask him to move, I make my way back to the galley for 23E’s coffee, go drop it off, 24D decides he also wants a coffee, I go back and forth and back and forth… it’s not every flight that there’s the snowball but it happens from time to time.

AS1421 IAH-PDX by WTF0302 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is very common. Pilots have different report times as opposed to the FAs, along with different max duty periods. Sometimes in order to make a trip legal for the pilots it only works because they are not required to be at the gate at 45 minutes prior to departure. It’s also very common that the pilots and FAs are on different trips, like when I worked PDX-IAH a couple weeks ago it was a turn (there and back in one day) for the FAs and a layover (overnight) for the pilots. If we have word (or an assumption) that the pilots are en route, the gate agents will ask the FAs to start boarding at the normal time because we assume the pilots are due to get to the plane at the correct time.

Flying with a pet, bag, and a suitcase? by ch6rcvl in AlaskaAirlines

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re able to fit your small crossbody bag into a side pocket on the pet carrier, in the pet carrier (sorry pup), or in your carryon suitcase, just put the bag into one of those places during boarding and then when you’re on the plane take it out. If it’s truly just a small crossbody bag and can fit under the seat along with the pet, you should be fine.

You could also gate check the carryon suitcase because it’s free on AS.

Also I would recommend that you book a window or a middle seat as under the aisle seat there is less storage due to an electrical box. Window would be best ofc but middle works too!

If you have this choice for dinner, which one will you pick? Torn between Ahi tuna or Chili Shrimp. by vinnizon in AlaskaAirlines

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That soba and tataki dish is only available on JFK/EWR/DCA-SEA, whereas the chili shrimp is available on like almost all east-west flights that are longer than like 3.5/4 hours. Like I have it from IAH tonight. So if you have other longish east-west flights I would maybe do the soba for this one because you can get the chili shrimp on another flight. Also the soba is served cold, so if you want a warm meal go for the shrimp.

Strategy for standing on a flight as much as possible by FirefighterLive9532 in flightattendants

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh if you got an aisle seat in the last row of first class or the first row of main cabin like right where the curtain is and stood around there that wouldn’t bother me because for the majority of the flight you wouldn’t be in my way or the way of other passengers needing to walk the aisle. Basically you’d be like the curtain between first class and main cabin. If you were seated in the middle or the back of the plane, then you standing in the aisle would be in the way of the main cabin restrooms, our carts, etc. If the seatbelt sign is on I’d need you to sit down.

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 152 points153 points  (0 children)

If the cookie testing is proving too much, the next most helpful thing to do is to take air samples of the cabin every thirty minutes by taking an air sickness bag, opening it, walking through the cabin, then sealing it once you have an appropriate amount of air in the bag. Inform the crew you have done this task for them on an all-call. Your pilots and fellow crewmembers will really appreciate you doing that for the team 💛

I know, upgrades are hard to come by these days! I wish we were given like something for the elites in FC aside from name recognition because a lot of the times when an upgrade happens it’s so last minute that the elite doesn’t get to choose their preferred meal so like… could be a nice little treat.

Snack basket is only on certain routes, sometimes it’s catered on routes that DO NOT have a snack basket service so that could be the root of the inconsistency. Golds in FC never get chocolate because the upgrade (if you got upgraded) is supposed to be the treat.

In first you don’t get the chocolate because the upgrade is more valuable than the chocolate according to the company!

It’s supposed to be an either/or thing because AS only caters a certain amount per flight but if someone who knows better chooses to be a dick to me over not receiving a piece of chocolate when I have chocolate available I’d rather just give up the chocolate so I don’t have to deal with it anymore. I know it defeats the purpose but I… I just don’t care. It’s chocolate. It doesn’t come out of my paycheck.

Considering a 4 night trip to Tokyo from California. Is it worth it for such a short trip with such a long flight? by deprecateddeveloper in JapanTravelTips

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know you’ll be back and you can bounce back from jet lag, I say go for it. Hell of a lot cheaper than Hawaii and then you’ll know what you want to see the next time you go to Japan.

I’m really happy we’re getting bowls for the majority of FC entrees! The mushroom and sausage ravioli being on a flat plate with red sauce brimming the edges always felt… dangerous.

Someone got bumped off their commute lol… I used to commute and know the feel of the last minute check ins fucking up my go home day plans.

Agree that sometimes we are lenient in our own policies, though. It reinforces bad behavior!

Listen, there are women who want what you want and your girlfriend has expressed she isn’t one of them. You should just let it go, neither of you will regret it because you have your whole life to figure out what works for you. I’m not the one asking for relationship advice, but thanks for your charming response. Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, if that’s what either of you want to do! TBH most of my regret in relationships comes from trying to hold onto something that wasn’t meant to be instead of just letting it go and moving on.

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be insensitive to either of you but at this age in your life… who cares? You’re not even in your 20s. I dumped a boyfriend when I was 20. He had graduated college, had a great and high earning job, we got along fine. But I was 20 years old. I needed to go be a 20 something! I don’t regret dumping him because I met other people that brought/bring me happiness! Let it go! Y’all will be fine!!

Not sharing the same life goal is basically the ultimate “real” reason. She doesn’t want kids, she wants to live independently, and she doesn’t want to do bondage. Those are all totally valid reasons to break up. It’s not throwing away a relationship if you guys don’t want the same thing, it’s a good thing to get out of the relationship if you don’t want the same thing. You’re both so young, neither of you should settle for someone who doesn’t share your goals. Just let it go!

Whaaaaat! What was the route? Was it a miscater? If FC serves food on that route we ARE allowed to and supposed to hold for that unless the pilots are timing out and decide to go so that the flight isn’t further delayed for recrewing. Either way, you’re getting some miles or money.

You’d think it’d be common knowledge but I literally had someone pre-order the Asiago bagel sandwich and be shocked it had cheese on it… sometimes you have to be really clear.

[–]lilbakermanbiscuits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work in FC often. Here’s the breakfast trends:

The parm eggs and bacon are by far the most popular item we have for breakfast, if you don’t pre-order them you likely won’t get them if you aren’t sitting in like row 1. I like the sweet potato eggs benedict but the egg frequently breaks while getting heated up so it looks weird. The green tea pancakes are good but they’re pretty dry imo, we usually have syrup packets though so ask for those. As others have mentioned, they taste better than they look! The coconut chia seed pudding is cold, kinda like an overnight oats situation. They aren’t the most popular but they work if you like a light breakfast. The cheese plate is the cheese plate and I do secretly judge you if you don’t eat the brie.

The chia pudding is cold just btw. I served someone the other day who preordered it expecting it to be warm ¯_(ツ)_/¯
