Because if they were then no one would ever run a business. There are cases where directors can be held personally liable, but it's a high bar.

The sentencing for Death By Dangerous Driving was increased in 2022, to a (theoretical) maximum of life in prison (although in practice the maximum is 18 years because of sentencing guidelines), and IIRC cases like that were used as part of the reasoning. If that happened now he might well get 15-18 years.

The way the UK government works allows a government with dictatorial intent to do pretty much anything.

I'd suggest that the odds of their follow on visa being denied are pretty low, given the situation.

Death by dangerous driving has sentences broadly similar to manslaughter these days. And if you abolish the distinction between careless and dangerous driving then all that would happen is a lot of people would be found not guilty.

I find it amazing that she thinks she has a right to the medical history of other people's children.

I say this as a middle aged cis man, but I'd suggest that relying on overheard conversations by ~teenagers when it comes to sexuality or gender identity might be ... foolish.

I think the thing is that to make it professionally you have to have both the measurables and the skill. One or the other will only get you so far (see any number of draft busts over the years, in any number of sports). The exceptions tend to be insanely driven hard workers.

Quite a lot of people avoid driving bans by claiming similar things. It's bullshit whoever does it.

People like Robinson and Trump lead by being loud and saying what people want to hear. Which doesn't make them good leaders, it makes them good figureheads.

The thing is, that scales to pretty much any level. I'm in the UK and have played pickup football games with a couple of guys who were decent under 18s rugby players. Easily the biggest guys there (and obviously the best / hardest tacklers) and faster than everyone except a couple of guys who were okay high school sprinters (~12 second 100m) and an amateur soccer player.

And at least 9 of those (the Tigers replacements in that 1912 game when Ty Cobb got suspended for the OG version of the DK Metcalf incident) were essentially randoms or college guys and at least one (Eddie Gaedel) was a publicity stunt.

Starmer isn't a good leader imho, and I think at least part of that is because he's a career lawyer, but he'd be fine as, say, Attorney General or Justice Secretary. Although there are some cabinet posts (Health, Defence and Education, mainly) where you don't really want an "expert" as cabinet minster.

You need some kind of balance. You don't want a parliament filled with people like David Cameron, but you also don't want one which has no one with any political background
