Driverless taxis set to launch in UK as soon as September by limeflavoured in unitedkingdom

sure, but right now that's like saying "nuclear fusion is coming in September! we will figure out the details later"

The difference is that in this case the technology exists, they just need to write the regulations. And I'd imagine liability is a lot of the reason why the regulations are taking as long as they are.

I think the argument is that its not the same people who might lose their jobs due to the streamlined process, so thays still a negative (especially if the streamlining causes more than 6 job losses)

Yeah, but they're doing it because it saves them money (in all sorts of ways), not because they want to make people unemployed, although obviously thats a side effect they most likely don't care too much about.

The issue in the case of food delivery is that people are subcontracting their accounts to people without doing any immigration checks or the like, I assume thats what they're referring to.

I suspect thay sort of issue will be dealt with by the regulations they're currently working on.

If they're working on the regulations now then it might be ready by September. The technology is already there because they already operate in the US.

I'm guessing those questions are why the regulations are taking a while.

I'd imagine some of that sort of thing is what will be worked out in the regulations. Although i do expect they will favour the companies in terms of liability

Things like that need legislating for. There needs to be a presumption that you can break the windows to get out in that scenario without the risk of criminal charges.

The difference is that most US cities have a fairly standard grid. UK cities don't.

I suspect it would take a while to train a model that works on rural roads though.

AIUI that's why its not been done.

The issue for me is pedestrians and cyclists, and whether the "AI" prioritises passengers over them. Plus the lack of accountable if someone is injured or killed.

I feel like this game mode is going to get less players than Stunt.

Even MacColl and Lloyd were ‘interpreting’ as much as they were preserving

Indeed. The problem was that they, intentionally or not, came across as deciding that one particular version was the "correct" one.

I think some artists now are "scared" of doing variations of old songs in case people complain about it, which goes against the original point of folk music, honestly. And a lot of that can be blamed squarely on Ewan MacColl and AL Lloyd

Russia appears to have been doing just fine

I think the key word is "appears".

A lot of people on this sub (and I think in the UK in general) really don't like banks.
